This is the first report of a spontaneous case of protothecosis in the dog, an infection with organisms of the algal genus Prototheca. Clinically the animal had chronic bilateral iritis accompanied by glaucoma of one eye and hypotony of the other, chronic nephritis, arthritis, and bloody diarrhea. Lesions containing the algae occurred in myocardium, liver, kidneys, para-adrenal connective tissue, brain, and eyes.

Emotions relationally and performatively constitute the very boundaries that distinguish the subject from the other(s). The urban human in India is affectively constituted by many intense emotional experiences of everyday life. Adopting a participation view of planning and drawing from Sarah Ahmed (2014, The cultural politics of emotion. Edinburgh University Press), we examine ‘what emotions do’ in the planning and participatory atmospheres (Buser, 2014, Planning Theory, vol. 13, pp. 227–243) in Bangalore. Tracing emotional content embedded in participations and non-participations, we demonstrate how distrust, anger and fear co-produced the process and outcomes of the 2031 Master Plan of Bangalore. We join the few emerging scholars that call attention to the emotional geographies of planning, particularly to be able to transform the continuing colonial urban management practice in the postcolonial world to that of planning. Planning, we argue, has to involve participation, in which emotions, we demonstrate, are the connective tissue (Newman, 2012, Critical Policy Studies, vol. 6, pp. 465–479).

ABSTRACTThe surprisingly high Tc for the superconductivity of alkali doped C60 has spurred wide interest in understanding its mechanism [1–7]. We first report the superconductive properties of CsxRbyC60 which has a Tc as high as 33 K when x=2 and y=1 in the feed [4, 5]. SQUID measurements show that in this material the coherence length is 45 A and the penetration depth about 1, 800 A [5]. It has now been proven that the observed increase in the Tc with the size of the alkali dopant is due to the increase in the lattice constant [6]. This is most likely due to the changes in the density of states at the Fermi level. The other important parameter according to BSC theory is the phonon which mediates the electron-electron coupling. In the second part of this paper we present recent results which show that the Tc is indeed strongly influenced by this parameter [7]. The isotope effect is unexpectedly strong on the Tc.

A family outbreak of gastroenteritis caused by Campylobacter coli occurred in May 2006 in Bielsko-Biala, in the south of Poland. Four members of a family had non-bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. C. coli were isolated in three of the four patients. PFGE and PCR-RFLP-flaA patterns confirmed the link between cases, showing the usefulness of these methods in outbreak investigation. At the same time, the epidemiological and environmental investigations of this outbreak were very limited and did not provide enough evidence to identify the source of infection, and thus to support the hypothesis formulated by the local epidemiologist. It is necessary to improve surveillance of campylobacteriosis mainly by multidisciplinary training of epidemiologists, microbiologists and general practitioners.

Two mastocytomas of the liver of sheep are described. The specimens were obtained during a survey of hepatic neoplasia that was conducted on abattoir-slaughtered sheep. Although tissues other than the liver were not examined, both tumours had metastasised, one to the portohepatic lymph node, and the other intrahepatically. It is believed that this is the first report of mastocytoma in this species.

The flux of narrow 5007 Å [OIII] forbidden line during last 20 years is accepted as a bench-mark for calibration of the continuum and broad-lines fluxes in AGN. But one can not get away from the problem of the forbidden lines variability in these objects. The first report were published by Bardin et al. (1967). Some of the results are revieved by V. Pronik, I. Pronik (1988, 1992). There were 4 years monitoring of [OIII] fluxes variability in the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1275 nucleus (Pronik et al., 1990). Now we reexamine the published data of W. Zheng et al. (1986, 1987, 1988), discussed earlier in supposition of forbidden lines constant in spectra of 11 low-redshifted QSOs. Maximal calibration coefficients adopted by W. Zheng et al. in supposition of [OIII] lines constant were in the interval 2.0–3.6. On the other hand the fluxes errors are about 15%. Disagreement is very high. This is one of the arguments in the forbidden lines variability Tightness.

Purpose: To report the endovascular repair of rare true aneurysms of the subclavian artery in patients with degenerative connective tissue disorders. Case Reports: Two patients, one with Marfan syndrome and the other with idiopathic cystic medial necrosis, presented with 3 subclavian artery aneurysms. A Wallgraft and 2 Viabahn covered stents were used to successfully exclude these aneurysms. After 3 months, the Wallgraft thrombosed, but the contralateral Viabahn remained patent at the most recent examination 13 months after treatment. The other patient with the unilateral aneurysm had a patent Viabahn stent-graft at 10 months. Conclusions: Patients with degenerative connective tissue disorders may benefit from less invasive treatment with stent-grafts. The more flexible Viabahn stent-graft may be better able to adapt to arterial tortuosity. However, the long-term results of this new technique have not yet been established.

Alocasia fallax Schott and A. odora (Roxb.) Koch (Araceae) were investigated cytogenetically to confirm their taxonomic status. There is no report of 2n chromosome number for A. fallax in the available literature and internet information. Therefore the 2n chromosome number (2n = 28) found in this study is probably the first report for A. fallax. Alocasia odora showed exactly double 2n chromosome number (2n = 56) from A. fallax. In addition to chromosome number, the other karyotypic features of A. odora were exactly double for that of A. fallax. The centromeric formulae of A. fallax was 24 m + 4 sm whereas it is just double in A. odora. Total length of 2n chromosome complement of A. odora (62.58 μm) was almost double to A. fallax. The range of chromosomal length of the two species was almost same. Moreover, A. odora plant is much taller than A. fallax. All of these data suggests that A. odora might be an autotetraploid of A. fallax which in course of evolution had undergone some changes in GC-rich repeats. An 11-year-old female spayed Maltese presented comatose, half an hour after vehicular trauma, and was treated for traumatic brain injury and pulmonary contusions. The dog developed severe hypernatremia within six hours of presentation, which responded poorly to the administration of five percent dextrose in water. As central diabetes insipidus was suspected, desmopressin was trialled and resolution of hypernatremia was achieved six days later. Transient trauma-induced central diabetes insipidus has been described previously in two dogs; in the first, serum sodium concentrations were evaluated three days after injury and the other developed hypernatremia seven days after injury. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report of rapid onset, transient, and trauma-induced central diabetes insipidus in a dog that encompasses the complete clinical progression of the syndrome from shortly after injury through to resolution.

The present investigation aimed to evaluate the histomorphometric features of the skin of the Iranian native sheep (Bakhtiari breed). A total of 24 apparently healthy Iranian Bakhtiari sheep, aged 1–2 years were analysed and categorised on the basis of sex (12 females and 12 males). Samples were taken as small pieces from different regions of the skin, fixed and stained with H&E. The quantitative evaluations of different regions of skin were carried out using lattice line graticule (5 × 5) and light microscopy. The Student t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyse the data and detect significant differences. Results showed that the volume densities of different histological structures varied between sexes and among the different regions. No significant difference was observed in volume densities of sebaceous glands, arrector pili muscles and blood vessels, but the other parameters studied differed significantly among the regions. Except for the arrector pili muscle and connective tissue, the volume densities of other tissue structures were significantly affected by sex.
