The article explores challenges that giving conceptual primacy to movement poses for thinking the politics of security. In security studies, there has been an intense interest in mobile phenomena and the nature of security techniques that seek to control, contain or steer them. However, when exploring how these mobile phenomena bear upon conceptions of politics and their contestation, the analytics tend to turn back to more static or sedentary categories and reference points. Against this background, the article develops an analytical framework for security and its politics that gives conceptual primacy to movement. Giving conceptual primacy to movement implies three key moves: (a) changing lines from enclosures and connectors to pathways; (b) shifting from understanding movement through positions and nodes to the continuity of movement; and (c) displacing architectural and infrastructural readings of the relations between movements with readings of continuously unfolding confluences of movements moving in relation to one another. Applying these three moves displaces conceptions of movement as border crossings and networked connections with the notion of entangling movements moving in relation to one another. One of the implications for security studies is that taking such a point of view challenges the use of ‘the subject of security’, understood in terms of state sovereignty and the positioning of differential security claims hooked into group identity, as a key device for making security politically meaningful and contested. The article concludes that giving conceptual primacy to movement invites security studies not to limit itself to studying the politics of movement but to also incorporate a motioning of politics.

In recent years, the concept of Knowledge Management has expanded widely in government and private sectors. The last five years have witnessed intensive discussions on Knowledge Management and its importance. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between Knowledge Management and its aspects and its impact on the performance of the governmental institutions in the Emirate of Dubai from the point of view of the managers of these institutions. This study attempts to use the analytical descriptive method to address the subject of the research. In this light, the analytical framework drawn integrates these approaches and can be applied in empirical studies. The study uses the questionnaire in data collection, which is valid and reliable according to the Cronbach’s Alpha value. A Multiple linear regression analysis has been used to predict the OP based on KG, KSR and KST. The findings showed that KG, KSR and KST were the key predictors of OP as these explained 49.6% of the total variance in Model.

---------- The Catholic/secular bioethics dichotomy questions the debate between two very articulate worlds of meaning from which a theoretical invitation to confront the ultimate questions of life is drawn. The Author maintains that bioethics, in so far as it is rational, is essentially a secular discipline, and problems cannot be discussed without involving not only moral philosophy, but other philosophical disciplines, as well as anthropology and ontology. Bioethics is one of many paradigms that are based on visions of different realities which have implications for other ontological positions, even if not explicit. It is possible to find harmony in different meanings they are looked at on the level, but for in-depth dialogue more light needs to thrown on the articulations of the paradigms, referring them again to the final questions, both ontological and metaphysical. To underline the distinction between bioethical paradigms means to call upon the philosophical dimension of bioethics, the general question of meaning, that is the metaphysical, must be taken into consideration. The metaphysical consideration allows us to take human nature, which also includes a biological dimension, as a normative, and not arbitrary or reductive. From this point of view, to have being indicates the way to the realisation of man’s specific end, his affirmation. This Thomist position is the one used in the Catholic Magisterium, whose pronouncements on bioethical questions are the official reference points and the subject of much debate. The Magisterium contains a doctrinal heritage that constitutes the official point of view of the Church on bioethical questions. Catholics can take it as Catholic bioethical doctrine unless their religious experience leads them to think doctrinal implications are lessened, and so long as pronouncements of the Magisterium on ethical matters are pastoral and educational exhortations to salvation because the authority of the Magisterium can be exercised solely through the transmission of what has been revealed. The Author invites us to critical and not ingenuous metaphysical experience, which is pushed beyond every given positive, which takes into consideration its own limits of reason, and which becomes a way of thinking beyond oneself. The Catholic paradigm is not a dogmatic paradigm, intransigently metaphysical, but an ontological paradigm on the basis of which human life is at one and the same time self-related and heaven-related because it is structured on relation to God and is, in this sense, sacred. Bioethics is not an exact science in which one can be indifferent the level of meaning of the one who is developing it.

SummaryIn the Marinelli chair, a geometry widely used in whole body counting, the lower part of the leg is seen quite inefficiently by the detector. The present paper describes an attempt to modify the standard chair geometry to minimise this limitation. The subject sits crossed-legged in the “Buddha Posture” in the standard chair. Studies with humanoid phantoms and a volunteer sitting in the Buddha posture show that this modification brings marked improvement over the Marinelli chair both from the point of view of sensitivity and uniformity of spatial response.

This study deals with politeness strategies in political language. The aim of the study is to describe how Indonesian politicians realize politeness in their language. The subject was taken nine parties who have representatives. They come from different parties: Democrat, Golkar, PDIP, PKS, PPP, PKB, PAN, Gerindra and Hanura. Data were classified and verified with reference to the criteria of politeness strategies as determined by Brown & Levinson (1987); cover the bald on record strategy, positive strategy, negative strategy and off-record strategy. The finding show that there were four types of politeness strategies used by Politicians in different of types of illocutionary acts; positive strategy, bald on record strategy, negative strategy, and off-record strategy. The most dominant type of politeness strategies used was positive strategy. The most dominant type was due to fact that speakers in interaction try to get closer the hearers. They use the group identity marker in addressing someone so there is no distance relationship between the speaker and hearer. They also gave the reasons when they speak in order to satisfy the hearer. Key words: politician; political language; politeness strategy

To implement any successful policy, research about the subject-matter is essential. Lack of knowledge would result in failure and, from an economic point of view, it would lead to a waste of scarce resources. The book under review is essentially a manual which highlights the use of research for development. The book is divided into two parts. Part One informs the reader about concepts and some theory, and Part Two deals with the issue of undertaking research for development. Both parts have 11 chapters each. Chapter 1 asks the basic question: Is research important in development work? The answer is that it is. Research has many dimensions: from the basic asking of questions to the more sophisticated broad-based analysis of policy issues. The chapter, in short, stresses the usefulness of research which development workers ignore at their own peril.

Projects for flood protection are increasingly the subject of investment projects in the field of water management. This is related to the increasing frequency of worldwide threats caused by extreme weather conditions, including extremely high rainfall causing floods. Technical and nontechnical flood protection measures are also increasing in importance. In the decision-making process, it is necessary to take into account both the costs and benefits of avoiding losses, including an analysis of social benefits, whose valuation of non-market goods is an essential element. A comprehensive account of projects in the field of flood protection based on the estimated costs and benefits of the investment allows the economic efficiency from a general social point of view to be determined. Previous evaluations of the effectiveness of investment projects have mainly taken into account only categories and market values. The aim of the article is to identify the possibilities to expand the values of non-market assessments and categories formulated on the basis of the theoretical economics of the environment.
