This qualitative study draws from Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory, which emphasizes interaction between the systems of education. The study argues that if teachers are able to cater for diversity in their classes, the vision of inclusive education will be realized. Inclusive education requires all learners with the diverse needs to be able to access education and succeed in their schooling careers. Ten teachers who are teaching in the Foundation Phase were purposively selected to form part of the study; data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Teachers indicated that large classes, lack of parental support, training for teachers, and social problems of the learners were making the teaching of learners with diverse needs challenging. This article focussed on the factors that are considered by teachers in the study as barriers to catering of learners with diverse needs, concluding that if teachers are provided with support, more learners will be able to sail through the system of education.

The purpose of this study is to examine how selected stories, which are written in Turkish by local or foreign authors for preschoolers, deal with honesty. In this basic interpretive qualitative study, data were collected through document analysis and analyzed through content analysis. Analyzed documents are twenty-one picture books, which written in Turkish for preschoolers published between 2004 and 2015, nine stories about honesty published online by four Turkish Provincial Directorates of National Education and one story about honesty published online by the Center for Values Education. The software NVivo 11 was used to conduct computer-assisted data analysis. The results of this study demonstrate that most of the analyzed texts use “dishonesty and its negative consequences” more than “honesty and its positive outcomes” to promote honesty.

This study explored procurement challenges faced by municipalities in South Africa. A qualitative approach was adopted in which semi-structured interviews were employed to elicit information regarding procurement related challenges encountered by municipalities in South Africa. The respondents consisted of ten individuals who were employed as supply chain managers in different municipalities located in Gauteng Province. The findings of the study show that despite the existent policies and support strategies, municipalities in South Africa still find it difficult to achieve their procurement objectives due to four major inundations; namely, the lack of training, the lack of capacity, the lack of transparency and the failure to comply with existing public procurement policies. The study recommends strategies for addressing the identified performance shortfalls in the area of municipal procurement.

This study aimed to explore the nature of the attitudes of Deaf educators towards inclusive education. The respondents were a non-probability sample of seven educators (Speaking educators = 3 and Deaf educator = 4) aged between 40 years and 55 years and with more than five years of teaching Deaf learners. A questionnaire with open-ended questions was designed and piloted before being administered. The data collected was analysed thematically. The results show that the respondents have a negative attitude towards inclusive education, with the main reason given being that mainstream schools are not yet ready for inclusion.

The aim of the article was to analyse the role of the Mpumalanga Provincial Archives (MPA), South Africa, in society in compliance with the Mpumalanga Archives Act (MAA), 1998 (Act No. 14 of 1998). The qualitative study employed document analysis, interviews and observation as forms of data collection. The population for the study was drawn from a few selected departmental representatives in the province as well as MPA representatives. The key finding was that there was non-compliance with the MAA, which has serious implications on national memory and identity. The key recommendation was for the provincial archives to appoint an advisory council to advise the provincial archives on issues of archives management. The researcher concluded that archives play an essential role in the preservation of history, culture and societal heritage.

Educators are one of the stakeholders in the education system working to ensure learner success. According to the Minimum Requirements For Teacher Education Qualifications, educators must fulfil 7 roles in their quest to impart education. In the study reported on her, we investigated Grade 6 educators’ knowledge and use of mediation as one of their roles in teaching English as First Additional Language (FAL) in Grade 6 inclusive classrooms. We further investigated how educators responded to learners who had diverse learning needs in English as FAL in Grade 6 inclusive classrooms. Six educators who taught English as FAL were purposively selected to participate in this study. Data were collected using qualitative research methods such as in-depth interviews and observations, in addition to document analysis. The participating educators indicated that large classes, a lack of training on inclusive education, and the scarcity of teaching resources made their mediation roles in teaching English as FAL in Grade 6 inclusive classrooms very challenging.

In the study school of thought, an exposure to the context of across the time boundary known as "al-fiqh al-taqdiri" is a special feature in the formation of the Hanafi sect. It is also a feature shared by other sects including the Syafie sect. The authors chose the book of "Ghiyath al-Umam" by Imam al-Haramayn al-Juwayniyy (419H-478H) for this study as the book was loaded with elements across the time compared to his other books. This study is a qualitative study and the design is document analysis. The study of Ghiyath al-Umam's book shows how far Imam al-Haramayn's imagination that has not been reflected by most of the people at his time. But some have already happened now and some might happen in the future.Keywords: civilization, futuristics, Syafie sect ABSTRAK: pengajian sejarah mazhab kita biasa didedahkan bahawa fiqh merentasi sempadan masa yang dikenali sebagai “al-fiqh al-taqdiri” merupakan ciri istimewa dalam pembentukan mazhab Hanafi. Hakikatnya dengan berlalunya zaman ia turut menjadi ciri yang dikongsi bersama oleh mazhab-mazhab lain termasuk mazhab Syafie. Untuk melihat kebenaran teori ini penulis memilih kitab “Ghiyath al-Umam” karangan Imam al-Haramayn al-Juwayniyy (419H-478H). Imam al-Haramayn merupakan antara tokoh terawal yang tersohor dalam bidang fiqh syafie dan usul al-fiqh di samping bidang ilmu kalam. Karya-karya beliau dalam bidang fiqh mazhab Syafie dan usul al-fiqh aliran mutakallimin menjadi sumber utama dalam disiplin masing-masing. Pandangan-pandangan beliau sangat berautoriti dan dinukilkan oleh para ulama muhaqqiqun seperti Imam al-Nawawiyy dalam fiqh Syafie dan Fakhr al-Din al-Raziyy dalam bidang usul al-fiqh. Justeru beliau ialah tokoh yang sangat bersesuaian untuk tujuan kajian ini. Kitab Ghiyath al-Umam dijadikan fokus kajian memandangkan kitab ini sarat dengan elemen merentasi masa berbanding kitab-kitab beliau yang lain. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kualitatif dan reka bentuknya adalah analisis dokumen. Kajian terhadap kitab Ghiyath al-Umam dapat menunjukkan betapa jauhnya imiginasi Imam al-Haramayn yang tidak tergambar oleh sebahagian besar manusia ketika itu. Namun sebahagiannya sudah pun berlaku pada masa ini dan sebahagiannya mungkin akan berlaku pada masa akan datang.Kata Kunci: peradaban, futuristik, fiqh mazhab Syafie

This study was conceptualised in order to assess the appraisal, disposal and transfer of archival records from the Mpumalanga Provincial Government (MPG) to the Mpumalanga Provincial Archives (MPA) for the period from 1994 to 2013. The study’s specific objective was to investigate the transfer process of archival records in terms of the Mpumalanga Archives Act, No. 14 of 1998. The study used a qualitative method through document analysis, interviews and observation. The sample for the study comprised the MPG and municipality records managers. The Mpumalanga provincial archivists were also interviewed as the custodians of the MPA. The key findings revealed that the MPG and the municipality did not comply with the Mpumalanga Archives Act, No. 14 of 1998 in terms of transferring records with archival value to the MPA as stipulated by the act. This has adverse implications for efficient administration of records in the country.

The number of female drug users has been on the rise in South Africa, with statistics reflecting a rise in the number of women who attend treatment centres annually. This article presents empirical data from a broader qualitative study which aimed to explore perceptions concerning the effectiveness of aftercare programmes for female recovering drug users. The main data source was transcripts of in-depth interviews and focus groups with both service users and service providers from a designated rehabilitation centre in Gauteng, South Africa. Framed within a biopsychosocial-spiritual model, this article explores the perceptions and meanings which the female recovering drug users and the service providers attach to aftercare programmes. The findings of the research outlined the range of factors promoting recovery, alongside noteworthy suggestions for improvement in aftercare services. While acknowledging multiple influences on behaviour, this article highlights the significance of these findings in planning and implementing holistic aftercare programmes.

There is growing interest in the development of measures and indexes of youth wellbeing. However, there has been a limited discussion on indicators to measure and select them. This paper reports on the results of a qualitative study on the selection of indicators to measure the wellbeing of young people in South Africa, and reflects on the relevance of the content of their values in choosing indicators for measuring their wellbeing. The data used in this analysis is based on telephone (9) and email (6) interviews conducted with 15 young people (male=5, female=10) aged 22 to 32 from five South African cities during July 2010. In the interviews, participants were asked to identify five issues they considered important to their lives, after which they were asked to rank them in order of importance. The issues indicated by the participants are described and discussed in six dimensions: economic, relationships, spiritual and health, education, time use and material. The indicators developed from this study are discussed in terms of their relevance for use in a measure of youth wellbeing in South Africa.

This study investigated, through observation of the Tshivenḓa female dress codes, the socio-cultural significance of such dress codes as a means of non-verbal communication. The non-verbal meaning embedded in different items of dresses conveys messages from the wearers to observers. The study adopted  a qualitative  design, since it used  document analysis and literature review as a means to adduce evidence that Tshivenḓa dress codes not only communicate socio-cultural meanings to the observer, but also signify gender, age group, rank, authority, status, and identity, as well as power relations—including the supernatural and the sacred. The study also revealed that there are dress codes that are specifically worn during initiation ceremonies among the Vhavenḓa people. In conclusion, we recommend that knowledge of Tshivenḓa dress codes should form part of the overall indigenous knowledge that needs to be studied in institutions of basic and higher education, and that for the sake of preserving this valuable information, communities need to be proactive in disseminating it to the younger generation.
