An LRFM Model to Analyze Outpatient Loyalty From a Medical Center in Taiwan

This research is intended to study the behaviors of outpatients in a medical center and constructs a set of data exploration procedures such that hospital management can deal with patient relationship management more effectively. This study adopts LRFM (length, recency, frequency, and monetary) model and cluster analysis, including self-organizing maps and K-means method, to categorize 321,908 outpatients of the medical center into 12 groups and then uses the multidimensional customer clustering philosophy to classify the outpatients. Outpatients can be categorized into five different types of groups, namely, core customer groups, potential customer groups, new customer groups, lost customer groups, and resource-consuming customer groups. In addition, seven types of outpatients based on five types of categories are identified. The similarities and differences of each group based on the patients’ characteristics are analyzed to give differentiation strategy advices for hospital management. Hospital management thus can design the optimal service strategies, provide the best care services, enhance hospital’s performance, and reduce the overall cost to establish quality relationships with outpatients.

This study combines cluster analysis and LRFM (length, recency, frequency, and monetary) model in a pediatric dental clinic in Taiwan to analyze patients’ values. A two-stage approach by self-organizing maps andK-means method is applied to segment 1,462 patients into twelve clusters. The average values ofL,R, andFexcluding monetary covered by national health insurance program are computed for each cluster. In addition, customer value matrix is used to analyze customer values of twelve clusters in terms of frequency and monetary. Customer relationship matrix considering length and recency is also applied to classify different types of customers from these twelve clusters. The results show that three clusters can be classified into loyal patients withL,R, andFvalues greater than the respective averageL,R, andFvalues, while three clusters can be viewed as lost patients without any variable above the average values ofL,R, andF. When different types of patients are identified, marketing strategies can be designed to meet different patients’ needs.

AbstractTelehealth as a means to deliver health care services has been used by physicians for many years, but the use of telehealth in audiology, specifically in pediatrics, has been minimal. Barriers such as licensure, reimbursement, technology, and equipment have been cited as reasons for audiologists not participating in telehealth. However, the COVID-19 pandemic created the need for telehealth services to be widely used to safely increase access to healthcare, and emergent orders helped reduce previous barriers so that audiologists could participate in telehealth service delivery. This article details three cases where audiologists delivered telehealth services to children. These case studies demonstrate portions of the Division of Audiology Telehealth Program of the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and how they increased access to hearing healthcare in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract The development of digital goods has profoundly changed the economic relationship and trading methods. Among all the digital goods recommendation information, ranking information is of prominent significance. The rankings impact consumers positively as they make decisions on buying digital products. We serve rankings and consumer psychologies as the object of this study, and will offer references and suggestions for the customization of the mobile terminal. Combining factor and cluster analysis, we subdivide the rankings into three groups first based on consumers’ values and lifestyles: reputation ranking, consumption behavior ranking and purchase intention ranking. Then, we use a correspondence analysis method to conclude the matching relationship between different types of rankings and various consumption psychology groups.

Unit layout affects every aspect of intensive care services, including patient safety. A previous study has shown that patients admitted to beds adjacent to the sink and to the door of a large bayroom had the highest number of positive blood cultures and the highest blood culture incidence density, respectively. The present study measures microbial air contamination in a medical intensive care unit of a medical center in central Taiwan. Of the 17 rooms, 8 rooms with distinct physical environmental characteristics were selected. Sampling tests were conducted between December 2013 and February 2014 with a microbial air sampler (MAS-100NT). TSA was used for bacteria collection and DG18 for fungi collection. The overall average bacterial and fungal concentrations were 83CFU/m<sup>3</sup> and 69CFU/m<sup>3</sup>, respectively. The ranges were between 8-354 CFU/m<sup>3</sup> and 0-1468 CFU/m<sup>3</sup>, respectively. A significant difference was found in the bacterial concentration (p=.005) between different room locations. The highest concentration was found in the rooms located at the front end of the circulation (99 CFU/m<sup>3</sup>), while the lowest was found in the rooms located at the rear end of the circulation (55CFU/m<sup>3</sup>). Differences in fungal concentrations for different room locations did not reach statistical significance. In addition, differences in bacterial and fungal concentrations for rooms with different sink locations did not reach statistical significance. Even though the microbial concentrations generally complied with standards, the results may help designers and hospital administrators develop a healthier environment for patients.

SummaryThe introduction of opening clauses in collective wage agreements allowing firms to deviate from their collective bargaining agreements has become widely accepted for the last fifteen years. With respect to the flexibility agreed through collective bargaining, the distinctions between single collective bargaining areas of the same industry have increased. Hence, the economic idea of uniform industry-wide central collective bargaining agreements is no longer tenable. The data set of the IAW used in this article provides differentiated information about opening clauses in collective wage agreements. By means of correspondence and cluster analysis, seven groups of collective bargaining areas are identified, which differ in the type of opening clauses introduced. Over the period from 1991 until 2004, the examination of dynamic aspects of these seven groups exhibits typical paths of development towards an improved flexibility agreed through collective bargaining. Furthermore, the conjunction of the data set with the German Structure of Earnings Survey of the years 1995 and 2001 makes it possible to show the relevance of the different types of single collective bargaining areas for employment and industries of the German manufacturing sector.

Abstract: Limited research exits on utilization and cost-effectiveness of acupuncture among underserved communities, and virtually no evidence has been published with respect to refugee populations. In this study, we examined the relationship between acupuncture and the total utilization of primary care services in a cohort of refugee patients with chronic pain.: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 16 refugee patients with chronic pain at Boston Medical Center (BMC). The research was IRB-approved. Demographics and total charges associated with primary care over 18 months were collected.: Total charges associated with primary care services decreased by 50.2% in our refugee cohort in the 12 months following acupuncture treatment, equivalent to a savings of $691 per patient per month.: This preliminary review demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in total charges associated with primary care following acupuncture treatment (p=0.0308). This study suggests the need for further investigation of the relation between acupuncture and refugees with chronic pain, as well as the financial implications of this relationship. It is unclear why refugees may seek fewer primary care services after acupuncture treatment. Additional study is needed to further explore whether this relationship is generalizable to other hospital services and to other patient populations.

It has been argued that keiretsu in Japan allows its member firms to maintain a financial structure different from that of non-keiretsu member firms. In this paper, we use two different types of financial statement ratio analysis techniques to discover whether Kohonen's self-organizing map (SOM) is able to uncover the differences in financial structures between keiretsu and non-keiretsu firms: ad hoc financial ratios and valuation-based financial ratios. We have found some evidence that SOM enables both financial analysis techniques to recognize different financial structures between the two groups of the firms. Implications of this finding for investment decisions have been discussed.
