Many research studies conducted in the recent past have found that the success of sports sponsorship depends much on consumers’ affiliation with the sport or a team. In order to understand the mechanics of the same, this study explores team–sponsor congruence, team identification and team involvement as exogenous variables to measure the attendees’ association with the team and its impact on their knowledge of the sponsor brand in order to ascertain the impact of their brand knowledge on the brand image of the sponsor and their purchase intentions. Using structural equation modelling technique, the study found that the attendees’ team association positively affects their knowledge of the sponsor brand, which in turn affects the sponsor image and purchase intention of the attendees. The study also found a weak direct association between the attendees’ product knowledge and their purchase intentions, implying the mediation of sponsor image. The study’s strength is in its sample of the respondents who were filtered for their high interest in the sport and the team (cricket and KXIP, respectively) under study. After selecting a team from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and analysing the responses of on-ground sport fans, the study provides valuable insights for the organizations which do or intend to sponsor a team in professional sport.

The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of factors of brand, including Brand Positioning, Brand Knowledge, Attitude towards Organic Rice Brand, and Organic Rice Purchase Intention. The survey was conducted with a sample of 224 consumers shopping at four organic rice shops in Ho Chi Minh City. The research was performed by quantitative research methods: Cronbach's Alpha Reliability Analysis, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirm Factor Analysis (CFA), and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The research results were conducted in two direct models and the indirect models in which the indirect model was supported. This means that brand positioning and brand knowledge had no direct impact on the Intention to buy organic rice, but only an indirect one through the consumer attitude towards the organic rice brand.

Indian firms are engaging consumers with long format advertisements (ads longer than 60 seconds in duration). Television (TV) spot costs are escalating for high viewership programmes. Limited attempt has been made to explore the impact of long format ads (ads longer than 60 seconds in duration) on consumer behaviour. The researcher explores the types of long format ads which increases the audience involvement leading to formation of purchase intentions (PI). Descriptive research design was used to conduct the research. Data was collected from 364 respondents. The conceptual framework was tested using structural equation modelling. The findings reveal that entertaining and informative long format ads exhibit the strongest influence on audience involvement which leads to formation of PI. However, long format ads do not directly lead to formation of PI among the consumers. The mediation effect of message process involvement (MPI) and attitude towards the brand is statistically evident.

PurposeThis paper tests and validates a conceptual model linking the attachment points, team identification, attitude towards the team sponsors and the behavioural intentions in the context of Indian Premier League (IPL), while testing for the moderating effects of age and gender.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 1,053 participants through both online and offline survey and then analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM).FindingsAttachment points influence the formation of team identification, which, in turn, affect the attitude towards the team sponsors. Attitude towards the team sponsors influence the behavioural intentions. Player attachment influences team identification the most. Age and gender have a moderating effect on the constructs of the study. Team identification in females is stronger because of attachment to sports, whereas males have stronger team identification based on player attachment. Males have a stronger intention to spread positive word of mouth (WOM) about sponsor products as compared to the female respondents. The younger age group of less than 21 years has more intention to spread positive WOM compared to the other age groups considered in the study.Practical implicationsThis study contributes towards sports sponsorship research and the paradigms of social identity and attachment theories. Moreover, it will also help the marketers (sponsors) in IPL to strategically market their brands.Originality/valueThis is the first study to investigate the impact of attachment points on sponsorship outcomes in the context of IPL. Further, it is also the first to investigate the purchase intentions and WOM for the team sponsors in IPL. The multi-group analysis results will provide insights into marketers to better understand IPL viewers' segments and their behaviour.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to develop a conceptual model for exploring the recall and recognition of embedded advertisements of sponsors.Design/methodology/approachTo verify the proposed conceptual model on a particular sports competition, a questionnaire related to the UEFA Champions League sponsors in the season 2016/2017 was designed. The data were analysed using structural equation modelling.FindingsThe results provided support to the claim that higher involvement in a sport and higher exposure to a sponsored event lead to higher recall and recognition of embedded advertisements. Conversely, the same two factors alongside sponsor awareness do not affect the attitude towards sponsors. On the other hand, sponsor awareness and attitude towards sponsors have a direct positive role on the future purchase intention of sponsor products/services.Practical implicationsThe findings illustrate that to maximise the effectiveness of their embedded advertisements, sponsors should not merely concentrate on brand awareness, but should go beyond and attempt to improve the consumers’ positive perception of their products and services. Moreover, by sponsoring a sport event, the sponsors can be sure that their message will be effectively transmitted to the ones who are fans of the sport and the sponsored competition.Originality/valueThe present study empirically explores the factors which influence the recall and recognition of embedded advertisements and how the achieved level of sponsorship awareness impacts purchase intentions.

I conducted a survey to examine the impact of subjective norms, behavioral attitude, and perceived behavioral control on ethical purchase intention with 445 consumers selected by random sampling in Wuhan City, China. Results based on a structural equation model showed that behavioral attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control all significantly influenced ethical purchase intention of the respondents, with subjective norms being the strongest predictor of ethical purchase intention. Furthermore, perceived behavioral control not only significantly and directly influenced ethical purchase intention but also had an indirect influence on ethical purchase intention through behavioral attitude as a mediator.

The article deals with consumer behaviour when purchasing green products. It develops theoretical knowledge in the field of antecedents to purchase intention with a focus on the currently neglected consumer chemicals (detergents, cleaning agents and cosmetic products). Based on previous studies, antecedents of purchase intention for green consumer chemicals are identified and the significance of their influence is subsequently verified by empirical research. Confirmatory analysis is based on structural equation modelling of data obtained from a questionnaire survey conducted among 250 consumers. The empirical findings show that the main antecedents of green purchase intention in are environmental concern, green lifestyle and product knowledge. The influence of promotion and community can be regarded as weak to insignificant. The degree of influence of all investigated antecedents depends on the gender, age and level of education of consumers. Increasing the volume of purchasing green consumer chemicals will in particular require provision of more information to consumers to increase their awareness of environmental protection and green products.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a model to evaluate the factors that influence soccer attendance at stadiums and arenas. Design/methodology/approach The quantitative method based on a structural equation modeling using partial least squares. Findings The results validated the proposed model. The results also showed that the greater the identification of the sports consumer with his team, the greater the impact on his satisfaction, increasing his loyalty to the team and his intention to buy tickets for a soccer match. It was also detected that the higher the risk perception, the lower the purchase intention of tickets. In addition, the study showed that the greater the involvement of sports consumers with soccer, the greater their intention to buy tickets. Originality/value One of the academic implications was to prove that team identification can be a predictor of satisfaction, and that the interrelationship between identification with the team, satisfaction at attending soccer matches at the stadium and loyalty to the team constructs has a high impact on the purchase decision of the sports consumer. In addition, the study tests a model that aggregates several constructs with empirical data for other researchers to better understand the phenomenon of attendance in stadiums and arenas.
