The present research is the implementation of the 2013 doctoral disertation report funded by DIKTI. The research is a part of IPTEKS scheme for community devotion that have strong relation to language education technology. It concern with the use of multimedia learning and vocabulary mastery on students’ Japanese language  reading skills at SMK 1 Purwokerto. The method is implemented experimentally by giving multimedia learning treatment such as Rosetta Stone and Tell Me More Japanese. Through some presentation with the use of those multimedia learning material, the purpose of this research is to know the extent to which the level of their vocabulary mastery and to encourage students in order to have an approriate skill to read Japanese documents. With the implementation of this multimedia learning training, graduate students of SMK Negeri I Purwokerto will be increased and for the future they have a good job at Japanese companies in Indonesia

The purpose of this paper is to serve as a departure point for a discussion on the design of a course in Advanced Information Technologies, with a special emphasis upon providing students with the tools to identify new, emerging technologies. The paper also shares the experience of offering such a course to graduate students in Information Systems during the Spring of 1999, the Spring of 2001, and the Spring of 2002. The course was designed to engage the students in participatory learning exercises in order to give them experience differentiating emerging from simply new information technologies, using principles described early in the course.

This commentary tries to address how we can foster diversity and inclusion among peers and potential peers in Japanese-language education based on my experience with providing pedagogical linguistics training to graduate students at The Ohio State University. Pedagogical linguistics training aims to instill future Japanese-language instructors with the knowledge of how the Japanese language works and to foster their ability to incorporate such knowledge into teaching. I would like to propose that pedagogical linguistics training can be a powerful tool to help individual teachers achieve their potential regardless of their prior experiences and backgrounds. I will discuss 1) the importance of pedagogical linguistics training and how it empowers future Japanese-language; and 2) issues in pedagogical linguistics training.

The internationalization of higher education in Canada has given rise to the increased use of standardized English language proficiency tests as gatekeeping measures in university admission policies. However, many international students who are successful on these tests still struggle with the academic and language demands of their programs. Drawing on a thematic analysis of life story interviews with five international graduate students at a major Canadian university, this study examines students’ perceptions on the skills elicited by the IELTS and TOEFL, the language demands and pragmatic norms of their graduate program in language education, and the university’s language support programs.

Technologies have permeated the field of language education in recent decades. Language education has been informed by the technology-enhanced practices. Researchers have exhausted a variety of technologies and technological tools in the field of language education. Augmented reality (AR) is one of the emerging technologies that has been exploited in both education and language education. However, it is reported that educators' lack of knowledge and confidence in employing emerging technologies such as AR are limiting the use of these technologies in language education. To dive into the employed AR-related practices in language education, this chapter will (1) introduce the definition of AR, (2) discuss the underlying theories undergirding AR-integrated language learning, (3) present both the affordances and thorny issues accompanied with AR, and lastly, (4) share pedagogical implications of AR-integrated language learning to inform and usher the practices of language educators.

The high level of personal involvement required by the foreign language learning process is even more difficult for our universities, where the demands of the academic environment are so high that not all graduate students acquire the necessary competencies to meet these requirements. The purpose of the article is to explore the background for acquiring foreign language competence in the academic environment and to obtain the necessary information necessary for further research. The research methodology is based mainly on theoretical methods, such as analysis of scientific papers and publications to identify the main problems of the article. The classification method is used to classify the main points of view on the selected problem. The broader goal of language education is independent communication in a foreign language, which is based on the premise that language skills learned in classrooms are easy to transfer to real situations, and that graduate students will gain the necessary experience at the end of the language program. But this is not the case, and the practical results of the acquired skills of communication in a foreign language almost always do not meet the language expectations of the applicants. The current state of educational services indicates a significant increase in the need for high-quality post-graduate education, which will provide the applicant with relevant competencies relevant to the academic environment. Today the aim of post-graduate education is not only the growth of usage of lexical and grammar materials in the training of a competent specialist. In theory, post-graduate education established the imperative of the competence-based approach, while practically communicative competencies aren't directed to the process of inclusion of PhD students in professional culture are underestimated and incomplete extent implemented by them in the academic educational environment.

This study aims to describe the reading culture of students through a literacy program ten minutes before lectures. The research method used is qualitative research. Research subjects, Indonesian Language Education students in semesters one, three, and five. Collecting data to determine the reading culture of students through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Based on the results of data collection conducted on Indonesian Language Education students, Billfath University, the following data were obtained: reading culture among sixth semester students was 58% of the total 46 students. In the third semester students the reading culture level of students is 93.75% of the total number of 20 students. The reading culture in first semester students is 65% of the total number of students 46. Thus, the literacy program ten minutes before lectures is able to foster a reading culture in students. This can be seen when the literacy program has not been implemented ten minutes before lectures. In terms of reading the most students read, namely: 65% of students read journal articles with the theme of education / teaching, 20% of students read language journal articles, and 15% of students read literary journals.

Assessment of the quality of translation is one of the important activities in translation. The translation assessment can be seen from three aspects: accuracy, clarity, and naturalness. This study aims to reveal the accuracy and fatigue of the translation results of students' Arabic-Indonesian official manuscripts, considering that researchers rarely touch the spiciness aspect than the translation's accuracy and reasonableness. This research uses the descriptive analysis method and content analysis model. The research sample is six graduate students in Arabic Language Education at the Indonesia University of Education. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. From the results of this study, the researchers obtained several findings, namely: first, the level of mastery was very high, spread as many as eight data (44.4%), the moderate level of intelligence was spread as many as six data (33.3%), and the level of intelligence lacked as many as four data. (22.2%). Second, the level of fatigue in the translation of the official text for high levels of friction is as many as ten data (55.5%), there are five data (27.7%) for moderate fatigue, and three data (16.6%) is less tired.  So, from the results of this study, it is concluded that fatigue dominates as much as ten data (55.5%) compared to the very high level of mastery where there are only eight data (44.4%).

This study aims at examining the writing skills of a group of Indonesian graduate students of English. A particular attention has been focused on the coherence of their production of argumentative texts. Employing a discourse analytical case study, three texts written by three Master’s degree students of the English language education at a local university in Central Java, Indonesia, were analyzed. Coherence and cohesion is inextricable in which both are crucial in academic writing as to achieve a makes-sense text. Therefore, it is an urgent need to look at the writing competency of students as they are at graduate level, majoring in the English language education. The texts produced by the students were scrutinized through the lens of micro- and macro-level coherence (Thornburry, 2005). From this theory, cohesion is involved in micro level coherence. The findings indicate that the students show a bit weakness on achieving coherent texts due to lack of optimization of cohesive devices especially conjunctions to create interconnectedness of the whole sentences in the texts.

The use of technology in language instruction revolutionized the way and the feel education was provided. Several modes helped students with their language gap. Nowadays, emergent technologies including the Web 2.0, gamification and game-based learning, and immersive technologies has taken language education by storm benefitting and bridging the language gap. This chapter provides an overview of how emerging technologies are changing the paradigm and contributing positively as a bridge to confront the language gap.
