Aluminum additions to conventional 18Cr-8Ni austenitic stainless steel compositions impart excellent resistance to high sulfur environments. However, problems are typically encountered with aluminum additions above about 1% due to embrittlement caused by aluminum in solid solution and the precipitation of NiAl. Consequently, little use has been made of aluminum alloy additions to stainless steels for use in sulfur or H2S environments in the chemical industry, energy conversion or generation, and mineral processing, for example.A research program at the Albany Research Center has concentrated on the development of a wrought alloy composition with as low a chromium content as possible, with the idea of developing a low-chromium substitute for 310 stainless steel (25Cr-20Ni) which is often used in high-sulfur environments. On the basis of workability and microstructural studies involving optical metallography on 100g button ingots soaked at 700°C and air-cooled, a low-alloy composition Fe-12Cr-5Ni-4Al (in wt %) was selected for scale up and property evaluation.

In this study, a hydrogel using single and double crosslinking was prepared using GelMA, a natural polymer, and the effect was evaluated when the double crosslinked hydrogel and tannic acid were treated. The resulting hydrogel was subjected to physicochemical property evaluation, biocompatibility evaluation, and animal testing. The free radicals generated through APS/TEMED have a scaffold form with a porous structure in the hydrogel, and have a more stable structure through photo crosslinking. The double crosslinked hydrogel had improved mechanical strength and better results in cell compatibility tests than the single crosslinked group. Moreover, in the hydrogel transplanted into the femur of a rat, the double crosslinked group showed an osteoinductive response due to the attachment of bone minerals after 4 and 8 weeks, but the single crosslinked group did not show an osteoinductive response due to rapid degradation. Treatment with a high concentration of tannic acid showed significantly improved mechanical strength through H-bonding. However, cell adhesion and proliferation were limited compared to the untreated group due to the limitation of water absorption capacity, and no osteoinduction reaction was observed. As a result, it was confirmed that the treatment of high-concentration tannic acid significantly improved mechanical strength, but it was not a suitable method for improving bone induction due to the limitation of water absorption.

AbstractThe paper describes a different condition of pouring temperature by sand and permanent mould to produce A356-6 wt% TiB2 metal matrix composites by in-situ method salt metal reaction route. The observation of SEM micrographs shows particle distribution of the TiB2 and it appears in hexagonal shape in Al matrix. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the formation of those TiB2 particulates and the results showed TiB2 particles are homogeneously dispersed throughout the matrix metal. Subsequent structure-property evaluation studies indicated sub-micron size reinforcement of in-situ formed TiB2 particles with improved physical and mechanical properties as compared to sand and permanent mould of Al-TiB2 composites. From, the permanent mould Al-TiB2 composite has an advantage of increase the properties over sand mould Al-TiB2 composite.

This study proposes a low-complexity region-based authentication algorithm for three-dimensional (3D) polygonal models, based on local geometrical property evaluation. A vertex traversal scheme with a secret key is adopted to classify each vertex into one of two categories: embeddable vertices and reference vertices. An embeddable vertex is one with an authentication code embedded. The algorithm then uses reference vertices to calculate local geometrical properties for the corresponding embeddable vertices. For each embeddable vertex, we feed the number of reference vertices and local properties into a hash function to generate the authentication code. The embeddable vertex is then embedded with the authentication code, which is based on a simple message-digit substitution scheme. The proposed algorithm is of low complexity and distortion-controllable and possesses a higher and more adaptive embedding capacity and a higher embedding rate than most existing region-based authentication algorithms for 3D polygonal models. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

The need for weight saving on Concorde stimulated the development of lightweight aircraft brakes. Carbon has long been recognized as a major constituent of brake friction materials and a carbon carbon composite has been engineered to provide adequate structural, thermal and friction characteristics for these disks. The use of carbon brake disks offered a 60 % weight saving compared with steel. Design of the composite is particular to the application. Orientation of the fibres on account of stress and heat flow requirements is vital to the achievement of a successful design. The material is considerably anisotropic and represents a compromise between strength and thermal properties, and manufacturing costs. Dunlop selected the chemical vapour deposition of carbon into a carbon fibre lay-up as the method of manufacture of the composite for Concorde brakes. The introduction of an incompletely developed process and a new composite brought novel problems to both design and manufacturing staff. Material property evaluation and extensive quality control practice played a major role.

Now a day’s composite materials are taking very important role in industrial growth. Composite materials are widely used in Automobiles, aerospace, submarine and also in other major fields, due to their special characteristics like light weight, high strength, stiffness, corrosion resistance. The determination of Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) of MMCs is important to aid its usage in high temperature environment as in the case of automobile combustion chamber. In these applications the stability of the composites over a long period of operation is a critical design considerationPresent work deals with the thermal property evaluation of the Al alloy / alumina metal matrix composite developed using the Stir Casting with chilling route technique. LM 26 Al alloy is being selected as the matrix material as it is a potential alloy for automotive piston applications. Al alloy / alumina MMCs was cast under end chilling technique by dispersing the reinforcement from 6 to 12 wt% the steps of 3% to study the variation in its thermal properties. At the same time chill material is also changed (Copper and MS) for different composition of MMCs cast to study the thermal behavior variations. After casting the required MMC, test specimens were prepared as per the standards to conduct thermal conductivity (K) tests and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) tests. Above tests were repeated for different composites containing different weight % of dispersed cast using different chills.
