Objectives: To compare Chest X-rays findings in COVID-19 suspected and confirmed patients on RT-PCR, presented at corona filtration center, Benazir Bhutto hospital Rawalpindi. Methods: In this study, Chest radiographs of 100 COVID-19 RT-PCR positive confirmed patients were compared with 100 RT-PCR negative suspected COVID-19 patients screened at corona filtration center, Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi from November 2020 to December 2020. Data on demographics, presenting complaints, co-morbid, lesion characteristic, distribution and attenuation, lobar involvement, pleural effusion and lymphadenopathy were collected. Associations between imaging characteristics and COVID-19 pneumonia were analyzed with univariate and multivariate logistic regression modals. Results: Chest X-rays findings revealed bilateral lung consolidation with peripheral and diffuse distribution, involving middle and lower lobe to be statistically significant (p<0.05) between RT-PCR positives and negative patients. Peripheral distribution was associated with an 11.08-fold risk in COVID-19 positive patients than diffuse distribution. Middle lobe involvement had four folds risk and lower lobe involvement had 11.04 folds risk in COVID-19 cases as compared to upper lobe involvement. Consolidation had 2.6 folds risk in COVID-19 positive cases. Conclusions: Bilateral, peripheral distribution of middle and lower lobes ground glass haze or consolidation with no pleural effusion is significantly related to COVID-19 pneumonia. Background: Cleanliness and dirt are a dichotomy to categorize a particular environment especially hospital settings in which cleanliness pave a great linkage to patient satisfaction on quality of care and reduction of infection. Dirt creates negative thought on the quality of services being rendered to patients in the hospital environment. Objectives: To assess the perception of patients and their relatives on the level of cleanliness in radiology department of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) Sokoto and to determine which amongst the diagnostic rooms is the cleanest (Computed Tomography (CT) room, Routine X-rays room or contrast exams room (fluoroscopy)). Materials and Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, 100 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents of which 66 in Routine xray room, 23 in CT suit and 11 in contrast examination room. Out of the 100 questionnaires nine were not returned and the remaining 91 were analysed. The questionnaire contains fifteen statements in total apart from the socio-demographic component. The count of responses was considered and for each type of response (SA, A, N, D, and SD) the percentage were calculated using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 23.0. Results: Sixty percent of the respondents were patients while 40% were relatives of patients that were critically ill. The modal age range of the respondents was 25-34years, 58% were married, while 48.4% were civil servants. The result of our study shows that the respondents have adequate knowledge on cleanliness with a mean score of 4.3, they perceived radiology department as a clean environment for diagnosis and visitation but need further improvement. According to the findings, CT room was the cleanest (87.0%) followed by contrast examination room 64.0% and routine X-rays room was the least 47.0%. It also revealed that lack of manpower is the cause of inadequate sanitation. Conclusion: Radiology Department in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital is clean and the CT suit is the cleanest.

BACKGROUND: Chest tube drainage under radiological guidance has been used with increasing frequency as a treatment option for pleural effusions and pneumothoraxes.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and usefulness of pleural drainage under radiological guidance for pleural effusion and pneumothorax in a tertiary care university teaching hospital.METHODS: A retrospective study of cases of chest tube placement under radiological guidance over a 12-month period in a university hospital.RESULTS: Fifty-one percutaneous pigtail catheter drainage cases were reviewed (30 patients). Forty-six (90%) chest tubes were inserted as a first-line treatment. The overall success rate of radiological drainage was 88%. Specific success rates were 92%, 85% and 91% for loculated pleural effusion, pneumothorax and empyema, respectively. The complications were few and minor.CONCLUSIONS: Pigtail catheter insertion under radiological guidance is a useful procedure for the treatment of sterile pleural effusion, empyema and pneumothorax. This technique can be used as a first-line procedure in the majority of cases.

Abstract Background The role of CT in assessing and plotting viral pulmonary affection land marking is its potential among other investigation tools, and the aim of the study was to compare the ability of two different CT-based scoring systems in discriminating severe COVID-19 disease. Results Retrospective comparative study included 142 confirmed COVID-19 patients by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, with different degrees of disease (mild to severe), the data of patients collected from medical records, and patients with their first CT chest read for calculating CO-RADS and severity scoring system (CT-SS) score. The patients with severe COVID-19 disease were significantly older and had different comorbidities. The level of C-reactive protein, ESR, ferritin, and LDH were significantly higher in severe disease, P < 0.001. The ability of CT chest and its score bases (CT-SS and CO-RADS) were accurate in differentiation between mild/moderate and severe disease; AUC were 89% and 97%, respectively. The cutoff value of less than 7.5 and 4.5 for CT-SS and CO-RADS, respectively, can rule out severe COVID-19 by 90% and 97%, respectively. Conclusions CT chest play a segregate role in COVID-19 disease, add on an advantage in clinical data in triage, and highlight the decision of hospital admission.

Introduction: Human immunodefi ciency virus infection damages the immune system making those affected more susceptible to opportunistic infections and malignancies which are common in the chest. This study sought to determine the pattern of chest X-ray lesions and the corresponding CD4 counts of HIV positive patients reporting in the antiretroviral clinic of this teaching hospital for the fi rst time. Methodology: Consecutive HIV positive patients that attended the antiretroviral clinic of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH) from September 2009 to January 2011 were recruited. Their chest x-rays were assessed for the presence of pulmonary lesions and baseline CD 4 counts were done to assess their degree of immunosuppression. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 16.0. Results: There were 211 subjects, 151 females and 60 males with a M:F ratio of 1:2.5 The mean age of participants was 36.5±11.9. Mean baseline CD4 count for the subjects was 279±220.7 cells/mm3. Almost two thirds (64.9%) cases had normal chest x-rays with their mean CD4 count as 277.65±228.54 cells/mm3. The commonest lesions seen in the lungs include pulmonary infi ltrations, 55 (26.1%), cardiomegaly, 24 (11.4%), pulmonary consolidation, 21 (10%) and lymphadenopathy, 14 (6.6%). The commonest radiological diagnosis made were Atypical pneumonitis, 39 (18.5%), pulmonary TB, 13 (6.2%), pneumonia 13 (6.2%) and cardiomegaly13 (6.2%) respectively.Patients with chest findings had lower mean CD4 counts, 239 cells/mm3 when compared to those without, 244 cells/mm3. Conclusion: Pulmonary infiltration was the commonest lesion, while the commonest diagnosis was atypical pneumonitis. Patients with chest x-ray lesions were found to have lower CD4 counts with probable worse destruction of their immune system. Objective: To analyze Chest X-ray findings in COVID 19 positive patients, presented at corona filtration center, Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi, based on CXR classification of British Society of Thoracic Imaging (BSTI). Methods: In this study, all RT-PCR COVID-19 positive patients screened at corona filtration center, Benazir Bhutto hospital Rawalpindi from 20th March 2020 to 10th April 2020 were included. Mean age of the cohort with age range was calculated. Presenting complaints & Co-morbid were analyzed and tabulated in frequencies and percentages. Portable CXR findings were classified according to BSTI classification and documented in frequencies and percentages. Results: Mean age of the patients was 44 years. Presenting complaints were cough 20 (67%), fever 18 (60%), shortness of breath 11 (37%), sore throat six (20%), loss of sense of taste and smell four(13%). Main co-morbid was hypertension six (20%). Two (7%) patients had normal and seven (23%) had classical COVID CXRs. 21 (70%) patients were in indeterminate group with only one (3%) having unilateral lung disease. Three (10%) patients had diffuse lung involvement and 18(60%) had peripheral lung involvement. Majority of patients 19 (63%), had bilateral middle and lower zonal involvement. Conclusions: In this study, COVID-19 CXRs generally manifested a spectrum of pure ground glass, mixed ground glass opacities to consolidation in bilateral peripheral middle and lower lung zones. Background: Chest x-ray is the most frequently performed diagnostic examination particularly in patients with respiratory and cardiac diseases and for routine medical checkup and planning for surgery. A study on the image quality of chest x-rays had been conducted but the findings on the chest x-rays have not been studied in this tertiary health institution. This study aimed at revealing the most common pathologies and sex distribution of the pathologies on chest x-rays of adult patients attending the hospital. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study of 190 adult (aged 18 and above) patients’ chest x-ray reports was conducted using the existing reported documents of chest x-rays from the archives of Radiology Department of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) Sokoto from January 2018 - October 2019 using data capture sheet as instrument for data collection. Data was analyzed using Microsoft excel version 2010. Results: Out of the 190 chest x-rays, 54% were for male while 46% were for female patients with the highest number of patients in the 29-38 years age group. Most of the radiographs studied were normal examinations (38.95%). Moreover, the most common pathology was hypertensive heart failure (26.84%) with male preponderance (13.68%). Conclusion: Hypertensive heart disease is the most common pathologic finding of adult chest x-ray in the study area with elderly male preponderance.
