PurposeThis study aimed to investigate the impact of total quality practices on knowledge management (KM) processes across a Social Security Corporation (SSC) in Jordan and explore the best approach to improve KM processes using quality management.Design/methodology/approachThis study followed a quantitative methodology: a conceptual model was developed based on an extensive review of the related literature; an online survey was developed and distributed using the SSC's intranet; and 384 surveys were completed and used in the statistical analysis. The two-stage approach of structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze and interpret the data, and was used to validate the conceptual model of this research.FindingsBased on the statistical analysis it was found that six out of seven independent factors relating to quality management practices were confirmed to have a significant impact on the knowledge management processes (KMPs). Building upon the findings an agenda for improving KM processes using quality management is proposed.Originality/valueThis study was conducted in one organization namely the SSC because it is the largest public service organization in Jordan and offers compulsory services. The inclusion of other public organizations and companies may reflect different findings. Future research may collect data from other service industries to get a more comprehensive perspective from developing countries such as Jordan. Moreover, the population of this study included only the General Director, General Director Assistants, and Administrative Managers. Front-line employees were excluded from the data collection because the study was conducted solely from a managerial perspective.

The assessment outcome for many online learning methods are based on the number of correct answers and than convert it into one final mark or grade. We discovered that when using online learning, we can extract more detail information from the learning process and these information are useful for the assessor to plan an effective and efficient learning model for the learner. Statistical analysis is an important part of an assessment when performing the online learning outcome. The assessment indicators include the difficulty level of the question, time spend in answering and the variation in choosing answer. In this paper we will present the findings of these assessment indicators and how it can improve the way the learner being assessed when using online learning system. We developed a statistical analysis algorithm which can assess the online learning outcomes more effectively using quantifiable measurements. A number of examples of using this statistical analysis algorithm are presented.

Objective: Through the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act, also called quality loop) cycle in the management of Critical Value Reporting, and then the discussion on the values of their application in the medical field. Methods: Data were divided into two groups (January to March in 2012 as before the implementation of PDCA-cycle and August to October as after the implementation of PDCA-cycle). Statistical analysis was applied for these two groups. Results: After the application of PDCA-cycle, the executing rate of critical values reporting increased from 38.2% to 96.4 % (P=0.000). The percentage of reporting time, repeat critical values reporting, reporters name and staff number, receivers name and staff number rised from 96.4%, 83.6%, 83.6%, 69.1% to 100.0%, 98.8%, 98.8%, 99.8%, respectively (P=0.000). Meanwhile, critical values reporting rate of Laboratory and Radiology also increased from 47.9%, 30.6% to 96.5%, 96.3% (P=0.000). Conclusion: This study suggested that the PDCA-cycle is an important tool for quality management, and it can effectively improve the executions of critical values reporting.

A company needs the efforts to do continuous improvement toward the potential of human resources, process, and the environment to bring about the best quality of product or service. The effective and efficient way to improve those capabilities is by implementing Total Quality Management (TQM). TQM contributes the benefit such as increasing the competitiveness of the company. TQM concept denotes the concept of continuous improvement that applies to every level of the operation. W Bali – Seminyak, specifically housekeeping department has objective to offer the unique and special moments, inventing the creative staff, and recultivating the hospitality in Bali which committed to implementing TQM optimally. The purpose of the study was to investigate the implementation of Total Quality Management in the housekeeping department of W Bali-Seminyak as well as the obstacles to it. Methods of analysis used in this study were descriptive qualitative and descriptive statistical analysis. The result of this study indicated TQM had been implemented in the housekeeping department, W Bali- Seminyak.

The aim of the present paper is to approach the matter of water quality by resorting to the metod of multicriterial mathematical programming. MicrosoftExcel enables the simulation of a mathematical model. Furthermore, we have also created a file in the C++ software, in view of the simulation process, applicable to numberless properties of water quality. The case study presents the simulation of a multicriterial analysis of water quality in Sibiu county. This particular study shows the means of obtaining more information about water quality, subsequent to the analysis of its characteristics resorting to statistical analysis-specific software, e.g. SPSS 16 software. Given the increase of drinking water worldwide by tens of percentage points in cca two decades, the author(s) consider(s) that an approach to the quality management of drinking water should represent a key priority of society.

PurposeShanghai is a Chinese city with a history of more than 700 years, which has played a very important role over 30 years of rapid economic growth in China. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the quality management maturity system and schemes of Shanghai enterprises.Design/methodology/approachThe investigation on quality management maturity of Shanghai enterprises was conducted by Shanghai Association for Quality (SAQ), to study the environmental impact of increasing globalization of industries.FindingsSAQ made a systematic investigation and evaluation on the maturity of enterprise product, services and overall management quality, to comprehensively understand and assess the current status and levels of Shanghai enterprise quality management and to obtain important information for preparing a strategy for the Shanghai enterprise quality development plan and countermeasures to stay competitive in the new era.Originality/valueThe paper shows that, in order to further improve market competitiveness and capability of sustainable operation and growth, Shanghai enterprises must enhance their overall quality management level guided by the performance excellence criterion, implementing and putting forward mega efforts on enterprises taking primary responsibility for striving to promote CSR based on “operation with integrity and responsibility”, investing in “soft skills strength development” and utilizing quality improvement tools and techniques to promote the overall quality management level to a new high in the next decade.
