The paper summarizes and examined extensive evidence on the environmental, geological and technological challenges of exploration and production of oil and gas, encountered during the development of the gigantic fields. Investigated environmental problems of underground disposal of wastes, the formation of zones of technogenic pollution, ecology megalonyx pressures and many others. Describes the environmental effects of oil and gas companies on the environment. The proposal for reducing the negative anthropogenic influence on the geoecological conditions of the environment. Justified the monitoring of the exploration and exploitation of deposits of natural raw materials. The oil and gas industry in Indonesia has been started since 1871 by Royal Dutch Shell. Meanwhile, the oil and gas industry in Aceh began in 1971 which was marked by the discovery of the Arun oil and gas fields. At that time, the management of oil and gas is done centrally by not involving the Government of Aceh as a regional producer. This led to armed conflict between the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement and prolonged conflict (for 32 years) ended with the approval of the joint oil and gas management pattern found in the territory of Aceh as stipulated in the MoU Helsinki on August 15 2005, Law No. 11 of 2006 concerning the Government of Aceh and Government Regulation No. 23 of 2015 concerning Joint Management of Oil and Gas in Aceh. In order to finalize joint oil and gas management in Aceh, universities, especially the Faculty of Law, need to immediately prepare human resources who are competent in the oil and gas and energy law so that they are skilled at negotiating and drafting a Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) for oil and gas or Kontrak Bagi Hasil (KBH). For this purpose, law faculties need to immediately incorporate oil and gas and energy law courses into their curriculum.

Geological Society Memoir 52 records the extraordinary journey of more than 50 years that has led to the development of some 458 oil and gas fields on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). It contains papers on almost 150 onshore and offshore fields in all of the UK's main petroliferous basins. These papers range from look-backs on some of the first-developed gas fields in the Southern North Sea, to papers on fields that have only just been brought into production or may still remain undeveloped, and includes two candidate CO2 sequestration projects.These papers are intended to provide a consistent summary of the exploration, appraisal, development and production history of each field, leading to the current subsurface understanding which is described in greater detail. As such, the Memoir will be an enduring reference source for those exploring for, developing, producing hydrocarbons and sequestering CO2 on the UKCS in the coming decades. It encapsulates the petroleum industry's deep subsurface knowledge accrued over more than 50 years of exploration and production.

Economic hardship in Ukraine during the years of independence led to a sharp reduction of exploration work on oil and gas, a drop in hydrocarbon production, a decrease in inventories and a sharp collapse of research work to ensure the growth of hydrocarbon reserves.The hydrocarbon potential of various sources of Ukrainian subsoil is quite powerful and can provide future energy independence of the country. Potential hydrocarbon resources in traditional traps of various types are exhausted by only 25 %. Ukraine has recently experienced so-called “shale gas boom”. The experience of extraction of shale gas in desert areas of the United States can not be repeated in densely populated Ukraine in the absence of such powerful shale strata, resource base, necessary infrastructure, own technologies and techniques and economic, environmental and social risks.Taking into account the fuel and energy problems of the state, we constantly throughout the years of independence oriented the oil and gas industry and the authorities on the active use of our own reserves and opportunities for accelerated opening of new oil and gas fields.The results of geological exploration work in the old oil and gas basins at the high level of their study indicate that deposits in non-structural traps dominate among open deposits.A complex of sequence-stratigraphical, lithology-facies and lithology-paleogeographical studies is being successfully used to forecast undeformational traps in well-studied oil and gas bearing basin of the Ukraine – the Dniprovsko-Donetsky basin. The authors predict wide development of stratigraphic, lithologic, tectonic and combined traps in terrigenous sediments of Tournaisian and Visean age, reef-carbonate massifs of the lower Tournaisian, lower and middle Visean age and others. They should become the basis for exploration of oil and gas fields for the near and medium term and open the second breath of the basin.

Based on the analysis of the published data is shown, economic efficiency of the processing of hydromineral raw materials in various countries of the world. In the course of research for 2017–2019 an experimental implementation of a technological solution for the complex processing of reservoir brines in specific areas (Asar, Bekturly, South Zhetybai deposits) was carried out, a technological scheme has been developed for the extraction of lithium and magnesium from associated brine taking into account their integrated and environmentally safe processing. The main characteristics of reservoir water are established, selected as promising for the extraction of compounds of Li and Mg.

As more Alberta oil and gas fields become depleted, attention is being given to development of economically and environmentally sound abandonment procedures. The objective of this study was to identify and assess residual internal and external contaminants associated with abandoned pipelines, particularly those to be abandoned in place. Circumstances which might increase the risk of contaminant release, and other issues relating to residual pipeline contaminants, were also identified. It was found that there are thousands of different substances which could potentially be associated with abandoned pipelines. A wide range in the potential quantities of residual contaminants was also found. Of the issues identified, the effectiveness of pipeline pigging and cleaning procedures prior to abandonment was the most critical determinant of the potential quantities of residual contaminants. However, a number of trace contaminants, such as PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) and NORMs (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials) may remain after thorough cleaning. A brief review of the legislation and regulations from a number of jurisdictions shows that pipeline abandonment has only recently become an issue of concern. Regulations specific to abandonment are lacking, and more genera] regulations and guidelines are being applied on a contaminant-specific basis, or in terms of waste disposal requirements.

Abstract During the drilling process in oil and gas fields, slender drill strings often experience a multitude of complex and simultaneous vibrational phenomena. Drill string vibrations hinder the drilling process and can cause premature wear and damage to the drilling equipment. Here, the suppression of drill string vibrations during drilling operations is experimentally investigated using a novel drill string design, based on the use of innovative periodic inserts that control the vibration transmissibility in different directions. These inserts are equipped with viscoelastic rings that act as sources of local resonances, surrounding piezoelectric actuators that generate internal axial loading when electrically excited. An experimental prototype that combined all these details was constructed and tested to demonstrate the periodic drill string's feasibility and effectiveness in minimizing undesirable vibrations. The obtained results indicate that the periodic inserts’ careful design can effectively enhance the drill strings’ dynamic behavior and conveniently regulate its bandgap characteristics. Both radial and axial vibrations were controlled, and the vibrations’ amplitude was reduced significantly over a wide range of frequencies. The proposed approach appears to present a viable means for designing intelligent drill strings with tunable bandgap characteristics.

This paper discusses the most important aspects of the development of the oil and gas industry in Russia. To replace declining oil production in Russia, we need to change the obsolete paradigm of the development of the domestic resource base. In the twenty-first century, the priority tasks in the search for oil deposits should be the Russian Arctic shelves and immature onshore provinces as well as unique unconventional oil accumulations (Bazhenov, Domanik, Khadum, Kuonamka Formations, etc.). In addition, special focus should be placed on the exploration of small and smallest oil and gas fields, which will be developed with the collaboration of small- and medium-sized oil businesses to ensure up to 20% of domestic oil production. The shift from extensive to intensive development of Russias oil and gas sector will require the prioritizing of technological tasks.

The United Kingdom Oil and Gas Fields has been produced to commemorate the first 25 years of hydrocarbon exploration and production in the United Kingdom North Sea. The result of this exploration has produced many benefits for the UK, its government and industry but above all for geologists and geophysicists, Articles on the 64 oil and gas fields discovered on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf are given in a standardized layout to provide easy to use databook for the petroleum geologist and geophysicist. The producing oil and gas fields have been arranged into:the Viking Graben, the Central Graben and Moray Firth, the Southern Gas Basin and Morecambe Basin. Also included are two introductory articles, the first sets the fields in a historical perspect!ve and the second places them in a stratigraphic framework.

The development of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan is largely based on a powerful base of mineral raw materials. The leading role is played by huge reserves of oil and gas. They are located in 6 oil and gas sedimentary basins of Western and Eastern Kazakhstan. More than 350 oil and gas fields have been explored in them, containing over 6.4 billion tons of recoverable oil reserves and about 4.5 trillion m3 of gas. The main volumes of oil reserves (85.2%) are concentrated in 25 large and giant fields. Numerous small objects contain only 5.3% of the reserves. In the changed situation on the world oil market, the development of such small fields with recoverable reserves of less than 1.0 million tons becomes unprofitable. In further work in new promising basins, one should focus on prospecting, first of all, large and medium-sized deposits

Uzbekistan’s oil and gas industry is experiencing declining production due to the depletion of existing oil and gas fields and aging production infrastructure. A multi-level organizational structure at Uzbekneftegaz is another reason for low efficiency of the industry, which causes the problems of increased bureaucracy, increased tax burden and inefficient allocation of resources. Partial privatization of Uzbekneftegaz can be an efficient tool in attracting alternative financing without putting the burden on the state budget and not ceding government control. Being listed on the international market, Uzbekneftegaz will have to follow internationally accepted corporate governance standards. This will have a positive impact on the efficiency and productivity of the industry
