Managing science, which includes managing scientific research and, implicitly, managing scientists, has much in common with managing any enterprise, and most of these issues (e.g. annual budget planning and reporting) form the background. Equally, much scientific research is carried in universities ancient and modern, which have their own mores, ranging from professorial autocracy to democratic plurality, as well as national and international with their missions and styles. But science has issues that require a somewhat different approach if it is to prosper and succeed. Society now expects science, whether publicly or privately funded, to deliver benefits, yet the definition of science presumes no such benefit. Managing the expectations of the scientist with those of society is the challenge of the manager of science. The book addresses some issues around science and the organizations that do science. It then deals with leadership, management and communication, team building, recruitment, motivation, managing scientists, assessing performance, cooperation and competition. This is followed by a discussion of proposal writing and reviewing, committees and meetings, project management, risk and health and safety. Finally, there is a discussion on how to deal with disaster, how to cope with the stresses of management and how to deal with difficult problems.

An accounting education graduate is required to master hard skills and soft skills. In terms of mastering soft skills in the accounting profession, it means to work together as a team. This soft skill provision is obtained through effective learning methods by forming a team that is given the assignment to solve a problem and accounts for it through presentations. The purpose of this study is to provide guidelines for lecturers to build effective teams for students. This study uses a descriptive experimental approach conducted by researchers in 5th semester students with Business Mixing Accounting courses. Team formation refers to McGrath’s Model framework. This model includes the input, process, and output stages. The input phase emphasizes the quality of the teams from various inputs. The larger the team, the more personality types, and time variations will be accommodated and the more conflicts that will be faced. The stage of the process includes how members deal with conflict and make conflict a success. The output stage includes criteria for measuring group performance results and other measures such as member performance satisfaction, group cohesiveness at the end of the task, and changes in member behavior to be better

Projects have become a key strategic working form. It is agreed that project performance must achieve its objective and be aligned with criteria that the project stakeholders establish. The usual metrics that are considered are cost, schedule, and quality. Configuration for the management of projects is a matter of decision that influences the project's evolution. There also are factors like virtual teamwork and team building processes that are relevant to that evolution. Effectiveness in managing projects depends on these factors and is investigated in this work by means of educational data mining as they can help to build more effective learning and operating procedures. The conclusions from this study can help higher education course designers as well as teachers and students by making apparent the influence of smarter strategies in the learning process. In fact, the same benefits will help practitioners too, as they can improve their continuous learning procedures and adjust their project management policies and strategies.

In times of digital transformation and dynamic change in corporate environments, the importance of agile project management is growing. This further affects the demand on change management and its contribution to project success. We conduct interviews with project participants of an agile project to identify the associated need for adaptation of change management. Change management criteria have to be adjusted, particularly in areas of communication and stakeholder management and integration into agile project management methods. Personal communication, individual stakeholder management, and participation are starting points for adapting and integrating change management into agile project management.

This chapter describes the 12 component tools of ARC within three stages of the ARC model. The first stage of collaboration focuses on ARC component tools for relationship, network, and leadership development. These tools establish the foundational relationships and conceptual development of leaders necessary to begin ARC’s second stage. In the participation stage, component tools such as team building, participatory decision making, and feedback (as well as others) are introduced to illustrate how ARC builds effective teams that apply ARC tools to improve services quality. Innovation represents the third stage as ARC participants employ the tools in a continuous improvement process to eliminate barriers to effective services, drive job redesign, and assure stabilization for sustainable improvement.

Managers must recognize that they play a central role in effective team building. However, to be successful, managers require a framework to guide their activities. The purpose of this paper is to provide such a framework in the form of a seven-step process that can guide managers in their team-building efforts. The model itself is built upon the assumption that there are identifiable team characteristics that, if present, will help ensure team success. The model presents a set of decision strategies for the selection and sequencing of team-building efforts and interventions. The model is an iterative, multi-staged effort that requires considerable planning and environmental knowledge to successfully implement.

The importance of team building and teamwork cannot be over emphasized as more work is increasingly performed in teams. The success of teams can be influenced by the makeup of the team and the working relationship between team members. A group of individuals with the same perceptions and team values can form a more effective team with more effective teamwork activities resulting in more successful outcomes. The purpose of this research is to examine the perceptions of international students on teams and determine if culture is related to their perceptions of teams. The international students in a project management course were surveyed, and the findings suggest significant difference in perception of international students about the importance of team building skills and teamwork.
