Ethanol fermented from potato peels is proposed as one alternative source of renewable energy called bioethanol. In this research bioethanol was produced through four stages namely acid hydrolysis, detoxification, fermentation and distillation. The acid hydrolysis process was carried out using sulphuric acid at 100oC for 60 minutes. The detoxification process was carried out by adding NH4OH into the hydrolyzate prior to fermentation. Distillation was performed up to 100oC and the distillate with the BP of 78-84oC was determined for its ethanol content using gas chromatography. The ethanol produced from 5 grams of dried potato peels through fermentation for 4, 5, 6, and 7 days 3.54%; 4,85%; 5,35%; and 6.15% respectively.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate phytochemical screenings and the in vitro effect antibacterial of BD (Eleutherine Sp.) and TU (Ampelocissus Sp.) against Propionibacterium acnes.Methods: The antibacterial activity was investigated against Propionibacterium acnes by well diffusion method.Results: Preliminary phytochemical screenings of BD ethanolic extract were found positive alkaloid, saponin, tannins, and steroid while TUpositive flavonoid, saponin, tannins, steroid, and triterpenoid. Antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes of ethanolic extract BD with concentration 25 mg/ml and 50 mg/ml showed the zone of inhibition 3.23 mm and 7.8 mm with category weak activity while ethanolic extract TU with same concentration showed zone of inhibition 10 mm (weak activity) and 16.3 mm (moderate activity) which mean ethanolic extract TU have better antibacterial activity. A combination ethanolic extract of both with variant ratio showed a zone of inhibition 6.7 mm (1:1), 3.9 mm (1:2), and 3.63 mm (2:1).Conclusion: In this present study showed the highest potential antibacterial activity against propionibacterium acnes is an ethanolic extract of TU and The best ratio combination is 1:1. Furthermore, this study needs more research with variant concentration so that may be possible to be used as natural anti-acne formulations.

ABSTRAK Ekstrak etanolik daun jeruk purut (Citrus hystrix D.C) mempunyai banyak zat khasiat dimana salah satu zat aktif tersebut berkhasiat sebagai antibakteri. Penggunaan ekstrak etanolik dalam bentuk kental sangat tidak efisien dalam pemakaiannya, sehingga perlu dibuat dalam bentuk sediaan topical, misalnya gel. Penggunaan Karbomer 934 sebagai gelling agent dapat meningkatkan konsistensi basis yang akan berpengaruh terhadap pelepasan zat aktif di dalam gel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi kadar basis Karbomer 934 gel ekstrak etanolik daun jeruk purut terhadap sifat fisik gel dan aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Gel dibuat dalam 4 formula dengan konsentrasi basis Karbomer 934 yaitu 0,5 %, 1%, 1,5%, dan 2%. Gel diuji sifat fisik (organolepstis, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, daya lekat, daya sebar, dan uji hedonik) dan daya antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Data dari uji sifat fisik dan pengukuran diameter zona hambat anti bakteri dianalisis dengan statistika Uji Kruskall-Wallis dan Mann-Withney Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa variasi konsentrasi Karbomer 0,5 %, 1 %, 1,5 % dan 2% sebagai gelling agent gel ekstrak etanol daun jeruk purut berpengaruh terhadap sifat fisik gel dan aktifitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Semakin besar konsentrasi Karbomer 934, viskositas semakin besar dengan FI= 3079 cP.s, FII= 8135 cP.s, FIII= 13136 cP.s, FIV= 14307 cP.s, menurunkan daya sebar dengan FI= 5.14 cm, FII= 4.04 cm, FIII= 3.51 cm, FIV= 3.35 cm, meningkatakan daya lekat dengan FI= 0.79 cm, FII= 0.87 cm, FIII= 1.05 cm, FIV= 1.16 cm dan menurunkan efektivitas antibakteri dengan FI= 6.4 cm, FII= 5.1, FIII= 5.8 cm dan FIV= 4.9 cm. Kata Kunci : gel, gelling agent, Karbomer 934, Citrus hystrix D.C , Staphylococcus aureus.   ABSTRCT Ethanolic extract of kaffir lime leaves (Citrus hystrix D.C) Has many active compounds, antimicrobial activity have been reported numerously. Ethanolic extract of Kaffir Lime leaves can’t directly exposure to the human skin. It can be increased of skin rash and eritema. The extract can be formulated in topical product like gel preparation. The aim of this work was to determine the effect of variations in base levels of Karbomer 934 gel ethanolic extract of kaffir lime leaves on the physical properties of gel and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The gel is made in 4 formulas with a base concentration of Carbomer 934 which is 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. Gel was tested for physical properties (organolepstis, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, and hedonic test) and antibacterial power to Staphylococcus aureus. Measuring the diameter of the antibacterial inhibition zone after incubation at 37ºC for 24 hours. Data from the physical properties test and measuring the diameter of the anti-bacterial inhibitory zone were analyzed by statistical with Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Withney test. The results of this study concluded that variations in Carbomer 934 concentration as gelling agent gel ethanol extract of kaffir lime leaves had an effect on the physical properties of the gel and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The greater concentration of Carbomer 934, increase the viscosity value with FI= 3079 cP.s, FII= 8135 cP.s, FIII= 13136 cP.s, FIV= 14307 cP.s, decrease the spreadability with FI= 5.14 cm, FII= 4.04 cm, FIII= 3.51 cm, FIV= 3.35 cm, increase in adhesion with FI= 0.79 cm, FII= 0.87 cm, FIII= 1.05 cm, FIV= 1.16 cm and decrease the effectiveness of the antibacterial with FI= 6.4 cm, FII= 5.1, FIII= 5.8 cm dan FIV= 4.9 cm. Objective: The aims of this present study were to formulate antiacne cream consisting ethanolic extract of bawang dayak and evaluate antibacterialactivity of cream on day 0 and day 7 to see stability activity and preparation.Methods: Cream formula of bawang dayak was evaluated organoleptic characteristics, homogeneity, pH, adhesion test, dispersion test, and in vitroantibacterial against Propionibacterium acnes.Results: The results of evaluate cream homogeneity were F3 and F4 on day 7 separate and non-homogen but all formula pH suitable for topicalapplication. On day 0, F1 and F2 shown antibacterial activity in category weak activity, F3 and F4 in category moderate activity, while on day 7 allformula have antibacterial activity in category weak activity.Conclusion: All cream formula potentials inhibit against P. acnes but this research must be improved both of preparation and stability activity.

Objetivo: Establecer una línea base como fundamento para la intervención e inducción de innovaciones a través de escuelas de campo y planes de negocios. Diseño/metodología/aproximación: El estudio se desarrolló en San José del Carmen, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, México. Se elaboró una encuesta como instrumento para recabar en campo información de familias de la localidad con la finalidad de conocer su situación actual. La localidad de trabajo se eligió utilizando como criterio las poblaciones que se encuentran dentro de Cruzada Nacional contra el hambre y en la clasificación de la pobreza extrema Resultados: La localidad de San José del Carmen es considerada como de alta marginación, la población es bilingüe, su principal lengua es el Tzotzil, el nivel de estudios promedio es hasta el tercer año de primaria, las principales actividades productivas son la siembra de maíz (Zea mays L.), frijol (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), papa (Solanum tuberosum L.) y haba (Vicia faba L.) que son utilizadas principalmente para autoconsumo.  No cuentan con agua potable ya que su sistema es a través de la recaudación de agua de lluvia o a través de un jagüey. Sus principales actividades económicas son la albañilería por parte de los hombres, y venta de productos, tales como el pozol (bebida energética a base de maíz y cacao (Theobroma cacao L.), tostadas y algunos vegetales por parte de las mujeres. Las tostadas son producidas en forma artesanal con un proceso de doble nixtamalización y vendida en bolsas de 20 tostadas cada una, a un costo de MX$10.00 en los mercados de San Cristóbal de las Casas, una a dos veces por semana alrededor de 40 bolsas por día de venta. Limitaciones del estudio/implicaciones: La afiliación zapatista de alguno de los pobladores y el hecho de que algunos habitantes no hablen español, fueron factores que limitaron desarrollar al 100% el estudio; sin embargo, se considera que se tienen los elementos necesarios para establecer la línea base de la situación de San José del Carmen. Conclusiones: El diagnóstico servirá como una herramienta para establecer una intervención a través de innovaciones y planes de negocios en la comunidad de estudio. Los pobladores cuentan con herramientas necesarias para obtener nuevos conocimientos que ayuden a un desarrollo de su producción. El idioma no deberá de ser una limitante para ello.
