One of the fundamental knowledge in mathematics in Primary school is related to the arithmetic operations addition and subtraction. According to the educational programs in mathematics in the Republic of Bulgaria, students start studying these operations in grade 1. The article presents theoretical concepts affecting studying the arithmetic operations addition and subtraction in the education in mathematics at a primary school. The research work identified the specifics of studying the inverse connections between the arithmetic operations addition and subtraction in the education in mathematics for grade 1 are also presented. Some of the significant tasks with importance for discovering the relations between the forward operation addition and the reverse operation subtraction were proposed in the study. A new methodology system of work with tasks where these relations are used was developed and tested. The author studied the knowledge, skills, and competencies of the grade 1 students to solve arithmetic operations addition and subtraction tasks. After the exit diagnostic, it was found out that the students of the class where the new methodology system of work was applied during their education in mathematics have got a higher level of knowledge and skills from competency Cluster Numbers in respect of the arithmetic operations addition and subtraction.  The use of mathematical tasks with reverse relations between the arithmetic operations addition and subtraction help the students to develop both the overall mathematical knowledge and the logical thinking of the first-graders.

The development of knowledge, skills and competences related to values and their measuring units represents an important part of the overall education in mathematics for primary school students in Grades 1-4. The research studies different theoretical concepts related to the competences and the approaches in the primary school education. Based on the analysis of the respective legislation the researcher presents interconnections between the specific mathematical competences and the term “mass” from the competency cluster “Measurement”. The newly developed methodology system of work for learning the term “Mass” is applied during both the mandatory and the additional mathematics classes in Grades 1-4. Different approaches for education are simultaneously applied but priority is given to the system-acting approach with the idea to achieve unification between the act of teaching and the control of the cognitive and practical productive activities of the students. As a result of applying the newly developed methodology system of work the students actively participate in the pedagogy interrelations and co-operation with the rest of the students, they have the opportunity to express their own intellectual and emotional potential. When the students make mistakes, during the practical individual, team and group activities they get the opportunity to correct these mistakes and to develop their own logical thinking.

Communicational transversal competency represents an important part of the mathematical knowledge, skills and competencies in the process of   students’ development in Grade 1-4. The creation and formation of communicational transversal competency helps to put students into an active cognitive position in the course of pedagogical interactions in mathematics classes. Further, creation of communicational transversal competencies develops not only students’ analytic – synthetic activity during the process of solving different types of mathematical tasks but also their creative thinking. This longitudinal research presents some theoretical concepts related to the transversal communicational competency and to its development during the educational process in mathematics in Grade 1-4. During this empirical study a completely new methodology system of work was developed with the purpose to facilitate development of mathematical knowledge, skills and competencies including the communicational transversal competency. The new system was tested and applied during the compulsory, additional and extended classes in mathematics in Grade 1-4 and consequently was improved after the performance of entry and intermediate diagnostic. Also, this article presents some of the mathematical tasks included in the tests. The researcher studied the objectiveness, the validity and the reliability of the diagnostic tools developed for the purpose as well as the tasks included in the tests in respect of their difficulty and separating force.  The presented results of the experimental work were processed using mathematics-statistics methods.

Sociocutural competence, which is an important aspect of learning Spanish as a foreign language, is analysed in the paper. The aim of the survey is to point at this phenomena trough examination of the sociocultural competence of students of the Spanish language in a primary school. The sample survey included students of the eighth grade of the primary school "Žarko Zrenjanin" in Zrenjanin (n=85). The instrument for gathering data was the test which contained closed-ended questions. The data were presented in percentages. The obtained results show that students do not have a high level of knowledge in sociocultural contents which are related to geography, history, everyday life, customs, and famous persons in the area of art. Their knowledge is uneven, which is reflected in the fact that students have better knowledge in some segments from geography and everyday life, and in some segments they have less knowledge. On the basis of the conducted research, it can be concluded that it is necesary to work more on sociocultural competence of primary school students and to pay more attention to this not sufficiently studied area in Serbia.

Both in Lithuania and abroad, a lot of natural science contests, quiz shows are organised for primary school students. By these events it is sought to motivate the participants, to provide knowledge, to deepen it and expand, to develop research work abilities and skills. Research aim – to analyse and generalise the contest “Lithuanian naturalist” theoretical part task answers, to ascertain what concepts (domestic or scientific) dominate in the contest participant works, to find typical mistakes made by students, and to present recommendations to the teachers. Research sample. Twenty-eight 3rd – 4th form students from 14 different Lithuanian schools, that is, 14 teams (the team consists of two students). Activity sheets were used for the research, in which 10 tasks were presented. An evaluation instruction was prepared for result evaluation. Slides were shown for the students while presenting the tasks. Team members worked in pairs. It was established that the 3rd and the 4th form students were able to make nutrition chains, could explain what it starts with, to ground, why. Contest participants correctly defined what a predator was, and what a victim was. Students had a sufficient understanding why predators were necessary in nature. Students lacked the ability to read the task to the end, attentiveness helping to discern the features. A typical mistake was noticed: part of the students the concepts of an insect and a beetle used as synonyms. Domestic concepts happened to be used. The participation in such contests, and the ability of organisers to lead the students through the science cognition way not only motivates them, but also allows them to believe in such activity meaningfulness. It is experienced how much I know, and together it is felt that still there is where to develop. Having introduced the teachers with the contest tasks, and having discussed with them students’ made typical mistakes, use of concepts, having presented methodological advice how to analyse one or another topic, what methods to use, one can hope for more thorough primary school students’ dialogue with science. Keywords: natural science knowledge and understanding, natural science contest, abilities, primary school students, activity sheet tasks.
