In coastal wetlands and tropical reefs, snails can regulate foundation species by feeding on marsh grasses and hard corals. In many cases, their impacts are amplified because they facilitate microbial infection in grazer-induced wounds. Whether snails commonly graze live plants and facilitate microbial growth on plants in tropical seagrass systems is less explored. On a Belizean Caye, we examined patterns in snail-generated grazer scars on the abundant turtlegrass (Thalassia testudinum). Our initial survey showed the occurrence of snail-induced scarring on live turtlegrass blades was common, with 57% of live leaves scarred. Feeding trials demonstrated that two of five common snails (Tegula fasciata–smooth tegula and Smaragdia viridis–emerald nerite) grazed unepiphytized turtlegrass blades and that smooth tegula abundance had a positive relationship with scarring intensity. Subsequent surveys at three Caribbean sites (separated by >150 km) also showed a high occurrence of snail-induced scars on turtlegrass blades. Finally, simulated herbivory experiments and field observations of a turtlegrass bed in Florida, United States suggests that herbivore damage could facilitate fungal growth in live seagrass tissue through mechanical opening of tissue. Combined, these findings reveal that snail grazing on live turtlegrass blades in the Caribbean can be common. Based on these results, we hypothesize that small grazers could be exerting top-down control over turtlegrass growth directly via grazing and/or indirectly by facilitating microbial infection in live seagrass tissue. Further studies are needed to determine the generality and relative importance of direct and indirect effects of gastropod grazing on turtlegrass health.

Abstract: training in cost accounting and calculating the cost of goods sold (CoGS) for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Ponggok Tourism Village was carried out to provide understanding and training in calculating CoGS. Based on the initial survey conducted by the community service team, information was obtained that seller in Ponggok Village did not calculate CoGS properly because they based their selling price on market prices. This is because MSMEs have a similar business, namely a culinary business. This unsuitable selling price determination will result in suboptimal profit achievement because each business has a different total cost. For this reason, this service carries out four training sessions to guide MSME players in deermining the appropriate selling price. The four sessions covered the delivery of concepts and materials, discussions, training in calculating CoGS, and evaluation. This community service is expected to increase understanding and skills in calculating CoGS so that optimal profit can be achieved. Keywords: cost accounting;cost of good sold; Ponggok Village Abstrak: pelatihan akuntansi biaya dan penghitungan Harga Pokok Penjualan (HPP) pada pelaku UMKM di Desa Wisata Ponggok dilaksanakan untuk memberikan pemahaman dan pelatihan penghitungan HPP.

Clinicians can enable patients to actively participate in their care but communication with patients is often poor and highly variable. The aim of this study was to explore patients’ understanding of their current illness while in hospital and using a codesign process to create prototype tools to facilitate better communication during ward rounds.A mixed-methods, multistep design with step 1: Application of a questionnaire addressing domains of care in the acute medical unit; step 2: Development of communication aids that were codesigned with active help of patients, students and a specialist in user centric design to address patient needs and step 3: Evaluation of tools with patients in four Plan–Do–Study–Act cycles. In the initial survey of 30 patients 12 (40%) patients did not know what their diagnosis was and 5 (17%) did not know the results of recent key tests. 20 (67%) patients felt that staff communication and coordination could be improved. An intervention was prototyped with four variations: (1) An A6 ward-round summary sheet completed by doctors during ward rounds. The system worked well but was highly person dependent. (2) An A4 patient-owned diary (‘How to Hospital’) that contained information about key processes in hospital and space to document conversations from rounds and prompts for questions. 10 patients read the diary and commented favourably but did not complete any pages. (3) ‘Diary-cards’: a basic set of information cards was given to patients on admission to hospital. (4) Patient specific ‘diary-cards’ were completed by clinicians—10 forms were piloted during rounds and improved subsequent day information retention of diagnosis to 80%.Our study identified interventions that were feasible but remained person-dependent. The patients’ ownership of information in relation to their care might facilitate retention and satisfaction but the optimal format for these interventions for enhancing communication remains unclear.

Abstract Background Research on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on people with rare diseases is limited. Few studies compare healthcare throughout the progression of the ongoing pandemic.Aims To assess the impact of lockdown on individuals with OI (Osteogenesis Imperfecta) across two consecutive years of the pandemic, to understand what challenges were encountered, and to analyse the experience of remote consultation. Methods Two independent surveys were distributed in August 2020 and April 2021. The primary survey was distributed following the first lockdown, and the second survey built on the experiences reported from the initial survey. The surveys explored four key themes- effects on therapy, alternatives to consultation, effect on mental health, and perceived risks of COVID-19.Results In the primary 2020 survey of the 110 respondents 69 (63%) had at least one appointment delayed due to lockdown, increasing to 89 of the 124 respondents (72%) in the follow-up survey. Of the 110 initial survey participants, 57 (52%) had a remote consultation, increasing to 92 of 124 (74%) in the follow-up survey. In the primary survey 63 of 91 (69%) expressed increasing anxiety due to lockdown, compared with 76 of 124 (61%) in the follow-up survey. In the primary survey 12 of 91 respondents (13%) expressed concerns at not seeing friends and family compared with 103 of 124 (83%) in the follow-up survey. In the second survey of 124 participants there were concerns regarding weight and diet (55, 44%), mobility (70, 56%), pain (71, 57%), and keeping physically active (89, 72%). The majority of participants felt they would have a worse illness and require longer rehabilitation than someone without OI (81 of 117 respondents, and 77 of 120 respectively), and the majority of participants (68%) had been vaccinated at the time of the second survey. Conclusions The pandemic has had widespread effects on both the mental and physical health of those with OI. These repercussions are likely to be felt for years to come. On the other hand, the pandemic has also revealed that in certain situations remote consultation may prove a viable long-lasting alternative to face-to-face appointments.

Technology has been growing rapidly to help humans living their everyday life. Human, as the user interacts through an interface called user interface (UI), and the experience that the users are having is called user experience (UX). UI and UX are inseparable as a good user interface will result in a better user experience. Portal Unand is a web-based app that has all academic information for students. An initial survey was conducted to find out student’s thoughts on Portal Unand. Students have complaints towards Portal Unand due to its unresponsiveness, old-fashioned design, important features weren’t highlighted, etc. Hence, it reduced user experience in using Portal Unand. In this study, the redesign was done by using the design thinking. The study started from empathizing with the users until testing the prototype to the users by conducting usability testing. Usability testing was conducted by using Maze and System Usability Scale (SUS). The score of usability testing was 84 which fell into the high range. The SUS score was 83.33 which fell into grade A and acceptable category. As the new prototype managed to fulfill users’ needs and met users’ expectations, the prototype was usable and ready to be developed.

This study draws on transaction cost, resource dependence, and organizational learning theories to posit relationships between transaction performance and transaction structure (alliances versus acquisitions), interfirm synergies, and motives. The study involves analysis of 66 international and intranational alliances and acquisitions that were undertaken in the pharmaceutical industry. An initial survey was administered to firms involved in these transactions to gather information regarding motives, transaction structure, and interorganizational synergies. A second survey was administered two years after the transaction to gather information on transaction performance. Findings support the importance of transaction structure and strategic synergies between firms. Specifically, transaction structure and high levels of strategic fit between the firms had a positive impact on performance. There is also some evidence that synergies must be linked to the motives driving the transaction. The study yields meaningful results regarding factors leading to success of transactions (alliances and  acquisitions)  in a  longitudinal  study  of  intranational and international transactions in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Land is an asset in today’s era of development. A patch of land’s management must be planned so that its utilization can be done proportionally and professionally. The Special Region of Yogyakarta, namely Gunung Kidul Regency, has yet to have a reliable base map with high accuracy for each patch of land within its area, which results in the hampering of land use due to the lack of spatial information available. The lack of clear status and spatial information is felt by UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta that has several patches of land in Gunung Kidul Regency, namely Kuwon Kidul, Pacarejo, Semanu, Gunung Kidul Regency. This research will create a base map scaled to 1:500 accompanied with information about height differences of said area and a recommended planning area considering three different aspects: geology, environment, and agriculture. The creation of a topographic map is useful for construction planning that will be conducted in the area. During this research, the topographic measurement and data processing were done in 11 days on field. The topographic measurement and data processing were conducted through five stages: initial survey, GNSS measurement, detail measurement, and data processing using software to produce a topographic map. The map result and measurement on field using Total Station showed that UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta does not have a level surface and has good data density.
