BACKGROUND: Overweight is defined as excessive or abnormal accumulation of fat that produces risk to health .The childhood overweight is epidemic, accelerating throughout the world and the fundamental cause of overweight is an energy imbalance between calories consumed and expended. OBJECTIVE: The main objective of the study was to find the effect of high intensity exercise program on cardiovascular endurance in overweight children. METHODOLOGY: Quasi experimental study, pre and post test type, Study duration is 4weeks at Sree Sankara balavidhyalaya school pallikarani. Thirty overweight children were divided into two groups Group A=15, Group B= 15.Both Group A and Group B performed six minute walk test and distance walked in6- minute was measured and recorded Group A:high intensity exercises were taught to them along with that diet chart was given. Group B:The diet chart was given to them. After 4 weeks the post test was conducted and the data were analyzed. The outcome measure vo2 max was calculated by 6 -minute walk test. RESULTS: The post test mean value of Group A is20.3 and Group B is 17.58, statistical result shows that there was significant change in mean values between pre and post test. Thus both Group A and Group B mean values shows statistical significance p<0.05. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that the high intensity circuit training program with diet was effective when compared to diet protocol among overweight children.

Introduction and Aim: Balance synergy includes a number of postural response that enable an individual to arise and remain erect during standing and locomotion. Balance deficits causes an insufficient coordination, postural instability and impaired gait. Maintaining the independence in activities of activities of daily living is an important factor for the quality of life. Hence this study is done to promote Hemiplegic Gait in stroke patients. Materials and Methods: 150 community dwelling hemiparetic subjects from Chennai aged <65 both male and female subjects were allocated in three groups (n=50) using convenient sampling method and were followed up for a period of 12 weeks with intervention duration of 45 mins daily and were assessed with POMA, FALL RISK , TUG and 6 minute walk test. Paired‘t’ test was used for assessing pre and post-test values. Results: There was significant difference with p < 0.001 at both Tinetti Performance oriented mobility assessment, Time up and Go Test, Fall Risk and 6 minute walk test minimal significant difference in  chair stand test in both the groups. Conclusion: There was significant difference in POMA, FALL RISK , TUG and 6 minute walk test p<.005 in Group C & Group B.

Background: The six-minute walk test is one of the most powerful test used to measure the functional capacity in various chronic conditions such as in Obesity. There are very few reported studies on SMWT on Obese population all over the world, and there is no reference equation for SMWD. The aim of present study is to propose a Reference equation which could predict the distance walked in SMWT by obese individuals.Methods: 150 obese individuals free from any cardiorespiratory disease were randomized into 2 groups. SMWT data from group A was used to propose the reference equation and SMWD for Group B was predicted. Significance of difference between predicted and original values for group B was found.Results: Mean SMWD for Group A was 304.56 (SD= 68.28) which significantly correlated to (by using linear regression method) age (r = -0.32, p <0.001), BMI (r = -0.43, p <0.001) SpO2* (r=-0.35, p<0.001). These could explain 56% of the total variance in 6MWT. Though the difference between predicted and original values for group B wasn’t found to be statistically significant. The proposed Reference equation is:6MWT distance = (6.8) O2 saturation-(4.3) BMI-(0.6) age-170.64.Conclusions: SMWT is a simple, safe and powerful test to assess the functional status. The standardized SMWD values for Indian obese population would serve as benchmark to assess baseline functional capacity, prescribe proper and safe exercise intensity and monitor changes after rehabilitation interventions.

Distances walked in walking tests are important functional markers, although they are not accepted as defining characteristics of Ineffective Peripheral Tissue Perfusion. The aims of this study were to verify the distances participants with and without this nursing diagnosis walked in the six-minute walk test and if these measures may be considered defining characteristics of this phenomenon. Participants with (group A; n=65) and without (group B; n=17) this nursing diagnosis were evaluated regarding physical examination, vascular function and functional capacity. Participants of group A seemed to have worse vascular function and functional capacity compared with those of group B. Pain-free travelled distance was predictive of the nursing diagnosis. These results are important for the refinement of this diagnosis. In conclusion, this study provides evidences that the distances walked in the six-minute walk test may be considered defining characteristics of Ineffective Peripheral Tissue Perfusion.

Background: Frozen shoulder is disorder of the connective tissue that limits the normal Range of motion of the shoulder in diabetes, frozen shoulder is thought to be caused by changes to the collagen in the shoulder joint as a result of long term Hypoglycemia. Mobilization is a therapeutic movement of the joint. The goal is to restore normal joint motion and rhythm. The use of mobilization with movement for peripheral joints was developed by mulligan. This technique combines a sustained application of manual technique “gliding” force to the joint with concurrent physiologic motion of joint, either actively or passively. This study aims to find out the effects of mobilization with movement and end range mobilization in frozen shoulder in Type I diabetics. Materials and Methods: 30 subjects both male and female, suffering with shoulder pain and clinically diagnosed with frozen shoulder was recruited for the study and divided into two groups with 15 patients each based on convenient sampling method. Group A patients received mobilization with movement and Group B patients received end range mobilization for three weeks. The outcome measurements were SPADI, Functional hand to back scale, abduction range of motion using goniometer and VAS. Results: The mean values of all parameters showed significant differences in group A as compared to group B in terms of decreased pain, increased abduction range and other outcome measures. Conclusion: Based on the results it has been concluded that treating the type 1 diabetic patient with frozen shoulder, mobilization with movement exercise shows better results than end range mobilization in reducing pain and increase functional activities and mobility in frozen shoulder.

Seniors are a constantly growing group of people in many societies. It is necessary to develop physiotherapeutic programs to improve their mobility. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the physiotherapeutic program conducted unstable ground on selected indicators of motor functions of elderly women. Sixty women (60–80 years) participated in the research. Group A (N = 20) underwent a 12-week physiotherapeutic program on stable ground, group B (N = 20) followed an exercise program on unstable ground, and group C (N = 20) (control group) had no therapeutic intervention. The effects of the therapy were assessed by using a FreeMed platform (foot load analysis) and a Biosway balance system. The results were compared using ANOVA (the one-way analysis), the Kruskal–Wallis test and also the post hoc tests (Tukey’s test and the multiple comparison test). In group A, a statistically significant change was observed in the static test and balance assessment, in group B this was observed in the static and dynamic foot tests and balance assessment, in group C, no statistical significance was achieved. The authors’ physiotherapeutic program had a statistically significant effect on changes in the balance and selected indicators of the motor functions of the examined people. Comparing the results before and after the therapy more improvement changes were noted in women training on an unstable ground compared to women training on a stable ground.

Lower back pain is one of the most common problems in adults all over the world, and chances of having back pain increases with the age. Objectives: To determine the effect of tailored motor control rehabilitation versus standard exercise program in chronic nonspecific lower back pain. Study Design: Non randomized clinical study. Methodology: A non randomized clinical study was conducted in six-month during 2018 after ethical approval. 40 patients were enrolled through non-probability purposive sampling technique and allocated into two groups (Group A & B). Informed consent was obtained. Individuals between twenty to forty years with chronic nonspecific low back pain with intensity at least 3 on a 10cm visual analog scale (VAS) were included and individuals with past history of trauma of the spine and hip and with any red flags were excluded. Outcomes were measures by Modified Oswestry Disability Index (MODI) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Statistical analysis: Data was analyzed by SPSS software, version 19 as qualitative variables were expressed as mean ± SD. Independent sample T test was also applied. Results: The mean age Group A was 29.05±8.58 and Group B, was 32.05±6.53 years. The result shows that there was a significant difference in outcomes among tailored motorcontrol rehabilitation (Group A) and standard exercise program (Group B). Conclusion: We concluded that motor control rehabilitation was more effective than standard exercise program in decreasing low back pain and improving quality of life. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of yogic practices on cardio-vascular efficiency. Material and methods: Total Forty (40) subject’s boys/girls were selected as the sample of the study through the random sampling and their age ranged between 20 to 25 years from the Department of Physical Education, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. The subjects were divided into two groups comprising 20 subjects in each group, namely group “A” (the experimental group) performs yogic practices (Asanas, Pranayamas and Kriyas) and group “B” (the control group) served as control. Statistical technique: for the assessment of the cardiovascular efficiency through Harvard step test pre and post-test was conducted and t-test was applied for the analysis. Result: revealed that there exist a significant difference between group A and group B, at .05 level of significance. On the basis of the pre and post-test among experimental and control group, experimental group found better than the control group on cardiovascular efficiency and significant result were found in this study.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the effectiveness of vocabulary enhancement activities on vocabulary learning in an ESP course. In designing the activities, technical terms on journal entries were chosen for the acquisition of language necessary for the successful implementation of accounting major&rsquo;s professional tasks. The desirable difficulty approach and the four strands principle,focused input, meaning-focused output, language-focused learning and fluency development, were guidelines in combining subject matter and English language learning. To test the result of the activities, the Vocabulary Knowledge Scale was employed to measure students&rsquo; knowledge of 50 vocabulary items. Subjects of the ESP course in discussion comprised 200 accounting juniors in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in China. Half of them in Group A read the texts and did matching exercises and translation exercises. The other half in Group B read the texts and practiced journal entry activity, targeting at accounting concepts and terminologies. The results revealed that Group B gained better results than Group A at a post-test. After the test a reflection on the vocabulary activities was gathered among the participants of Group B. The feedback further proved that the students did benefit from the enhancement activities on selected technical terms.

Introduction and Aim: Cricket is one of the most popular game in India played by men and women of all ages. Core stability is defined as the ability to control the position and movement of the trunk over the pelvis to allow optimum production, transfer and control of force and movement to the terminal segment. Major muscles involved are pelvic floor muscles, Transverse abdominis, multifidus, internal and external obliques, and rectus abdominis. Core is used to stabilize the thorax and the pelvis during dynamic movement. The study helps to compare the effectiveness of Swiss ball exercise and Pilates exercise on gaining core muscle strength. The aim of the study is to compare the effect of Swiss ball exercise and Pilates exercise on core muscle strengthening in college cricketers. Materials and Methods: The design of the study is comparative type. The study was carried out in faculty of Physiotherapy, Dr.M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute. The study sample of 30 male college cricketers between the age group of 18 to 25 years are included in the study. Individuals with associated neuromuscular conditions, any injuries to lower limbs and any spinal injuries have been excluded in the study. Swiss ball and Pilates mat are the materials used. Sphygmomanometer is the outcome measure.30 male individuals between the age group of 18 to 25 years were divided into two groups, group A and group B. Individuals in the group A (n=15) received the Swiss ball exercise and group B (n=15) received Pilates exercise for 4 session/ week for 6 weeks. Results: On comparing the mean values of group A and group B on double leg lowering test (DLLT), it shows significant decrease in the post test mean values but (group B- Pilates exercise) shows (30.60) which has the lower mean value is more effective than (group A- Swiss ball exercise) (46.80) at P ? 0.001. Hence, null hypothesis is rejected. Conclusion: The study concluded that both the group was effective but while comparing Pilates exercise showed the potential treatment option than swiss ball exercise. Hence, Pilates exercise was effective on core muscle strengthening in college cricketers. Keywords: Swiss ball; Pilates mat; core muscle; sphygmomanometer.

Objectives: The overall goal of the study was to foster self-directed learning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills in 1st-year medical students. Another goal was to create interest in learning by making it more interactive. As per the requirement of a competency-based medical education curriculum, we tried to use a novel teaching method called Flipped classroom method to meet our goals. Hence, the objectives of this study were: (1) To compare the effect of flipped classroom method and didactic lecture on students’ performance in the topics from renal physiology by MCQ test. (2) To obtain students’ perception about flipped classroom method in learning physiology. (3) To obtain teachers’ perception about flipped classroom method in teaching physiology. Materials and Methods: Flipped classroom method was introduced for teaching two topics in renal physiology for first MBBS students. This cross-over experimental study included 112 first M.B.B.S. students, after taking their informed consent and Ethics Committee permission. They were divided into two groups according to odd and even roll numbers. In the first part of the study, Group A (odd roll numbers) attended the didactic lecture on Renal Clearance (RC) and Group B (even roll numbers) attended the didactic lecture on Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). These topics were taught by two different teachers in two different classrooms. They were administered pre-test and post-test in the form of case-based MCQs which tests knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills on the topic. In the second part, two groups were swapped. Group A attended flipped class for G.F.R. and Group B attended flipped class for RC. They were again administered pre-test and post-test in the form of the same MCQ test. The teacher remained the same for the particular topic. For the flipped class, students came prepared with the topic. They were provided with resource materials of the allotted topic 1 week prior, in the form of pre-recorded lectures and videos. Students’ feedback in the form of a questionnaire and teachers’ feedback in the form of the interview was obtained. Marks obtained by students after didactic teaching and flipped classroom method teaching were compared by “Student’s t-test.” Results: The post-test score of students in the flipped class was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the post-test score of students in didactic class. More than 85% of students agreed and strongly agreed that the flipped classroom method improved their learning in renal physiology and it increased their confidence in answering the topic in the final exam. Near about 50% of students liked the flipped class method because of its interactive nature and discussion which was based on the application of knowledge. The teachers were more satisfied by flipped classroom method of teaching. Conclusion: Flipped classroom method is an effective teaching-learning method in physiology when compared with a didactic lecture.
