The Javan Pangolin (Manis javanica) is a unique mammal with hard scales and can roll over when threatened. However, the study of Javan pangolin ecology, particularly using an ecological landscape approach, is limited. Here, a spatial analysis of the presence and distribution of Javan pangolins living in an extreme landscape in Rongga Sub-district, West Bandung District was conducted and was correlated to the landscape structure using a landscape metric approach. A descriptive method was used in conjunction with quantitative statistical analyses using simple linear regressions based on the Pearson correlation coefficient. The variables were features of the extreme landscape structure and the number of Javan pangolin animal signs at the sampling sites. The seven sample sites had variations in land cover classes, and the landscape structure affected the distribution of the Javan pangolins. The pangolin distribution showed a strong, negative correlation with the number of patch types (R2 = 0.628) and a weak, negative correlation with both the landscape heterogeneity (R2 = 0.012) and the percentage of forest cover (R2 = 0.136). Together, the landscape heterogeneity, the number of patch types and the percentage of forest cover negatively affected the distribution of Javan pangolins, showing a strong correlation (R2 = 0.799).

Objectives: to study communications of separate components of the metabolic syndrome (MS) and immune and oxidative characteristics of patients with psoriasis in combination with MS. Methods. The research included 312 patients with psoriasis having diagnostic signs of a metabolic syndrome. Biochemical and immunological researches were conducted by means of immunofermental and immunokhemilyuminestsentny analyses. Results. At patients with psoriasis at a combination to MS abdominal obesity, a giperleptinemiya, insulin resistance, high oxidizing potential and hyperactivity of interleukins (ILS) -1β,-6,-8, a factor of a necrosis of tumors an alpha (FNO-α), interferon scale (INF-γ) are noted. the waist circle’ is characteristic direct weak correlation with the pro-inflammatory tsitokina oxidized by lipoproteins of blood (LDL-ok) and with the general oxidizing ability of blood (OOS), weak negative correlation of an indicator - with the general antioxidant ability of blood (OAS) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). The HOMA-IR index has direct correlation link of moderate force with levels of a leptin of blood, LDL-ok, OOS, pro-inflammatory tsitokin, negative correlation of moderate force - with OAS, SOD. At patients with psoriasis with MS direct strong correlation link of level of a leptin of blood with activity of the studied pro-inflammatory cytokine, LDL-ok, OOS moderated is established with the level of insulin in the blood., the HOMA-IR index, strong negative correlation with OAS, SOD. Conclusion. Presence at patients with psoriasis of signs of a metabolic syndrome is followed by increase in activity of immune and inflammatory mechanisms, development of oxidative stress.

Lead (Pb) is an abundant and one of the most lethal metals found in the earth’s crust. Its use by humans dates back to thousands of year. Even the low doses of lead are responsible for the production of reactive oxygen species which leads to oxidative load. This oxidative stress mitigates production of malondialdehyde (MDA) and down regulates antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD). Study Design: Quasi experimental Study. Place and duration of study: Department of Biochemistry, ANMCH, Islamabad, Pakistan in collaboration with NIH, Islamabad from November, 2018 to April, 2019. Methodology: A total of 40 BALB/c mice were divided into two groups of 20 mice each. Group  was given normal standard diet. Group  was given lead acetate in drinking water with normal diet without any supplementation. Levels of malondialdehyde were measured by using Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) was estimated by xanthine oxidase method at the end of study. Results: The results of our study showed increase in MDA and decrease in SOD in lead treated group when compared with the control group. Pearson correlation was applied to assess the degree of association between two parameters, it showed significant negative correlation with value of r = -0.96 and p-value of 0.001 Conclusion: It was concluded from our study that increase in MDA leads to decrease in SOD indicating strong negative correlation in lead poisoned mice. Correlation between some landscape metrics and insect species richness in coffee agroforests in Pangalengan Subdistrict, Bandung District, West Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 3075-3085. The insect community provides valuable ecosystem services and can help maintain ecosystem integrity in human-altered landscapes such as coffee agroforests. The aim of this study was to assess the landscape characteristics of coffee agroforests in the Pangalengan Subdistrict and analyze how those characteristics influence the insect communities. Landscape metric approaches were examined to quantify landscape characteristics and the results analyzed using correspondence analysis to determine variation among samples, and simple linear regression testing was used to determine the influence of those landscape characteristics on the insect community. Seventeen sample locations varied in characteristics based on the proportion of the land cover classes, and landscape characteristics determined the number of insect species. The number of insect species showed strong negative correlation with landscape heterogeneity (R2=0.456) and number of patches (R2=0.514) and a weak positive response to the proportion of natural forest remaining (R2=0.150). Number of insect species showed a strong negative correlation to landscape heterogeneity, number of patches, and number of natural forest remaining simultaneously (R2=0.514).

Human activities have modified the landscape composition. The changes in the landscape structure can be evaluated by metrics, which are influenced, among other factors, by the number of cover classes used for the landscape classification (thematic resolution). In high thematic resolutions, landscape covers that can influence biological responses are identified and detailed. In low thematic resolutions, this detail level is lower because it aggregates different landscape covers in a few classes. However, how the thematic resolution influences our ability to understand landscape structure on biodiversity is poorly explored, particularly for pollinators. Here we asked how thematic resolution affects the explanatory power of landscape composition on explaining Euglossini bees (richness and abundance) within 15 landscapes composed mainly of coffee and pasture. To address this issue, we quantified the association between five attributes of the euglossine bee community and landscape composition: landscape cover classes (%) and landscape heterogeneity. Moreover, we also evaluated how the thematic resolution influences bee responses to landscape structure. We found a strong and positive influence of landscape heterogeneity in low thematic resolutions (i.e., few cover classes on maps) over the richness and rare species abundance. We also observed that- in addition to the forest cover in the landscape- the pasture cover (%) quantified in high thematic resolution positively influenced the total abundance and abundance of common and intermediate species. Our study highlights the importance of maintaining compositional heterogeneity for the orchid bee community in agroecosystems, and forest cover for the biological requirements and conservation of these pollinators. Moreover, the use of different thematic resolutions showed how specific types of landscape covers influence the euglossine community attributes. This can highlight the species preferences for habitats and landscape covers. Thus, we call the attention of landscape ecologists to the importance of the definition of thematic resolution, as our ability to quantify the association between biological responses and landscape structure may be influenced by the number of classes used when building thematic maps.

Based on a realized 3D virtual laboratory and virtual agents, this study was to investigate whether the virtual agents influence task completion. A total of 90 students participated in the experiment. They were evenly divided into three groups, one for the control group with no intervention and the other two for experiment groups with different interventional levels. The results show students who used the virtual agents worked much faster and more efficient than those who did not. The satisfaction of the experiment groups was superior to that of the control group. The correlation analysis showed a weak negative correlation between time in total and satisfaction (<em>r</em> = -.365), a strong positive correlation between speed and satisfaction (<em>r</em> = .626), and a strong negative correlation between time per task and satisfaction (<em>r</em> = -.685). However, correlation degree wasn't in concord with the interventional levels. This study suggests that virtual agents have promising effects on task completion and perceived satisfaction.

Vessel wall enhancement (VWE) in contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a potential biomarker for intracranial aneurysm (IA) risk stratification. In this study, we investigated the relationship between VWE features, risk metrics, morphology and hemodynamics in 41 unruptured aneurysms. We reconstructed the IA geometries from MR angiography and mapped pituitary stalk-normalized MRI intensity on the aneurysm surface using an in-house tool. For each case, we calculated the maximum intensity (CR stalk ) and IA risk (via size and the rupture resemblance score (RRS)). We performed correlation analysis to assess relationships between CR stalk and IA risk metrics (size and RRS), as well as each parameter encompassed in RRS, i.e. aneurysmal size ratio (SR), normalized wall shear stress (WSS) and oscillatory shear index. We found that CR stalk had a strong correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient, PCC = 0.630) with size and a moderate correlation (PCC = 0.472) with RRS, indicating an association between VWE and IA risk. Furthermore, CR stalk had a weak negative correlation with normalized WSS (PCC = −0.320) and a weak positive correlation with SR (PCC = 0.390). Local voxel-based analysis showed only a weak negative correlation between normalized WSS and contrast-enhanced MRI signal intensity (PCC = −0.240), suggesting that if low-normalized WSS induces enhancement-associated pathobiology, the effect is not localized.

From an analysis of the length-time relation for tiller growth in wheat it was concluded that tillers which emerged traced a discontinuous curve, and that the discontinuity marked a critical event in tiller growth. Tiller buds which did not emerge as tillers continued to grow even more slowly, at least until anthesis of the primary shoot. The critical event was identified as that of escape from the cavity in which the bud was tightly contained throughout early development. The timing of vascular differentiation in tiller buds was shown to be size-dependent and there was no evidence for any correlation with the critical event of escape. A strong negative correlation between the lengths of the 3rd tiller buds and their subtending internodes was established, and the presence or absence of the 4th tiller bud was also correlated with its internode length. Current hypotheses relating to apical dominance are reviewed, and it is suggested that the dynamic physical constraints implicit in tiller bud growth add a further complication. It was concluded that hormonal, nutritional and constraint mechanisms need to be integrated as partial mechanisms which interacted at the interfaces between successive levels within apical systems.

Epidemiological studies around the world have reported that fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is closely associated with human health. The distribution of PM2.5concentrations is influenced by multiple geographic and socioeconomic factors. Using a remote-sensing-derived PM2.5dataset, this paper explores the relationship between PM2.5concentrations and meteorological parameters and their spatial variance in China for the period 2001–2010. The spatial variations of the relationships between the annual average PM2.5, the annual average precipitation (AAP), and the annual average temperature (AAT) were evaluated using the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model. The results indicated that PM2.5had a strong and stable correlation with meteorological parameters. In particular, PM2.5had a negative correlation with precipitation and a positive correlation with temperature. In addition, the relationship between the variables changed over space, and the strong negative correlation between PM2.5and the AAP mainly appeared in the warm temperate semihumid region and northern subtropical humid region in 2001 and 2010, with some localized differences. The strong positive correlation between the PM2.5and the AAT mainly occurred in the mid-temperate semiarid region, the humid, semihumid, and semiarid warm temperate regions, and the northern subtropical humid region in 2001 and 2010.

Abstract Introduction Spine and hip bone mineral density (BMD) have previously been shown to predict the risk of sustaining future fractures. Although these have been shown in population studies, there is a paucity of trials looking at the relationship between BMD and 10 year probability of major osteoporotic fractures (Using FRAX UK without BMD) in patients with previous fragility fractures. Aims To evaluate the correlation between spinal T-score and an absolute 10 year probability of sustaining a major osteoporotic fracture (using FRAX without BMD) in patients with prior fragility fractures. Methods A retrospective cross-sectional analysis of 202 patients (29 males and 173 females) with prior fragility fractures attending a fracture prevention clinic between January and August 2019 was performed. Patients with pathological and high impact traumatic fractures were excluded. The BMD at the spine was determined using the lowest T-score of the vertebrae from L1 to L4. Using the FRAX (UK) without BMD, the absolute 10 year probability of sustaining a major osteoporotic fracture was calculated for each patient. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26 software. Results The mean T-score at the spine was −1.15 (SD +/− 1.90) for all patients, −0.68 (SD +/− 0.45) for males and − 1.23 (SD +/− 0.14) for females. The mean FRAX score without BMD for major osteoporotic fracture was 18.5% (SD +/− 8.84) for all patients, 11.41% (SD +/−0.62) and 19.7% (SD +/−0.68) for males and females respectively. Pearson correlation coefficient showed a statistically significant, slightly negative correlation between spinal T- score and the FRAX (UK) without BMD (r = −0.157; p &lt; 0.05). Correlation was not statistically significant when males (r = 0.109; p = 0.59) and females (r = 0.148; p = 0.053) were considered independently. Conclusion In patients with prior fragility fracture spinal BMD has a statistically significant negative correlation with an absolute 10 year probability of sustaining a major osteoporotic fracture.
