Abstract This article introduces a total revenue forecasting tool designed for calculating the economic output of visually graded hardwood lumber. The tool integrates Monte Carlo simulation from previous studies' data, providing a pseudoestimation of total board-feet based on log grades. The lumber output from different log groups is modeled using probability distributions for each lumber grade. The estimated volume output is multiplied by the respective price for each grade, leading to an expected amount of economic output for given log-grades. The tool was implemented using Microsoft Excel 2016 and Visual Basic. This work provides hardwood lumber producers with a valuable and simple tool to determine different scenarios of total income from each log, as established by the user with a statistical perspective. This total revenue forecasting tool provides the industry with a way to reduce waste and estimate their potential revenue by maximizing the interaction between the log yield's variables and providing the economic output of log, leading to an improvement of the economy of the hardwood market.

Long Tail Strategy is a business strategy which explains that the total revenue from the sale of non-popular products may exceed the total income from popular products. This may happen since generally there is only a small number of popular products, which is in great demand, while there are many of the non-popular types which is sold in small amounts. This research aims to better understand the role of IT behind the success of the Long Tail strategy. Results show stages of how to develop IT strategy, including identification, analysis, determines on a strategy, until implementation. The results of this study will help software developers to plan IT strategy by implementing an accurate Long Tail Strategy. Keywords: Long Tail, IT Strategy, Services, Software Package

Learning media in Mathematics by using Microsoft Excel software that assisted Visual Basic application is a tool that can be applied for a more interactive visualization so that students better understand about mathematical concepts. Microsoft Excel is a software that serves to process data in the form of numbers that are always associated with mathematical commands. In addition, the functions of commands in Microsoft Excel can be applied in various fields such as Statistics, Economics and Finance, Mathematical Logic, and Engineering. If using mathematical concepts with data processing. But it is not just a number, it can also be used to process objects on shapes or drawings on images. This, of course, requires a function other than the mathematical functions of Visual Basic Applications, which can make math tools more interesting. The advantages of Microsoft Excel with Visual Basic for Application (VBA) are (1) the images are more interactive with different sizes and can make more; (2) more economical; (3)saving time; (4)the software is easy to find, and (5)improving students 'understanding of mathematical concepts and foster students' sense of trust, especially in junior high school students.

This paper presents two easy-to-use spreadsheet modules in Microsoft Excel to assist with the design of adhesive joints. The modules make use of embedded Visual Basic numerical algorithms to give assistance with the selection of both the adhesive type and the geometric configuration of an adhesive lap joint. These modules facilitate the quick implementation of designs that are more accurate than was previously possible by traditional design methods. The method will be particularly helpful to students and inexperienced designers who first encounter the need to design adhesive joints. The paper also includes an example application to illustrate the use of the modules.

The goal of the article is to implement the CTR Dairy model using the Visual Basic for Application (VBA) language of Microsoft Excel. CTR Dairy is a dynamic simulation model for grazing lactating dairy cows that predicts milk production and profit over feeding based on ruminal digestion and absorption of nutrients under discontinuous feeding schedules. The CTR Dairy model was originally developed as a research tool using a proprietary computer simulation software called SMART that required the SMART client to run the program. As SMART software is now discontinued, and its client is no longer available, rewriting the model in the VBA language using Microsoft Excel for inputs and outputs makes the program available to a broad range of users including dairy farmers, extension advisors, dairy nutrition consultants and researchers. Dairy farmers can use the new version of the CTR Dairy program to manipulate the herbage allowance and the access time to the grazing paddock, as well as the timing of supplemental feeding, to improve the utilization of the pasture and to increase the production of the milk.

In this study, a tool has been designed and developed for learning about the concept of lag order within a dynamic model, which can be used in any teaching classes on statistics and financial data computation. To show a solution for a complex and multi-step process of finding the optimal lag order for multiple variables data series based on an information criterion a module using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) for Microsoft Excel (MS Excel) is being developed. This module can be used for estimating a multivariate dynamic model as well as determining the optimal lag order of such a model.

This paper presents arguments for the use of direct steam generation (DSG) in preference to other forms of generation in particular locations according to the prevailing environmental and economic conditions. In addition, the paper describes the development of a software tool based on Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), which draws upon established physical relationships in the heat transfer literature to perform plant capacity calculations in a fast and convenient manner. The results of the VBA program determine the solar fraction of the plant, assuming that the plant is in operation for 10 h per day (07:30–17:30 hours), the solar fraction is shown to be 76% and the DSG plant achieves a 76% reduction in emissions. Construction costs are also estimated based on formulae from previous work.

Do you often think there must be a more effective way to accomplish some of the administrative tasks you complete on a daily basis, such as dropping the two lowest quiz scores in your grade book, making a calendar of assignments, or creating a grading rubric for a project? This month's “Technology Tips” provides you with some useful shortcuts. Glen Lobo, from Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio, shares two Microsoft Excel macros from his personal grade book. The first two tips show how to record and edit a macro in Excel, while the third tip illustrates how to create a macro using Visual Basic programming language. This month's “Surfing Note” lists useful online administrative resources that can be used in your classroom.—Eds.
