Abstract Background Increasing demand for interprofessional collaboration calls for change in organisational practice and interactions of professionals. Health promotion is a particularly interesting area for observing these changes, because it involves professionals with different disciplinary backgrounds usually also working in different sectors. In Denmark new health promotion strategies in organisations were introduced to engage professionals in new tasks and establish interprofessional ways of working. Our research aimed to explore how these strategies impact in professional practices, using a cookery project for children as a case study, which involved care assistants and school teachers. Methods A qualitative case study was conducted to investigate how care assistants from a nursing home and school teachers implemented a cookery project in a Danish school; the focus was on joint care and teaching situations among the two professions and their users. Our data consisted of documents, participatory observations, and interviews with professionals; a sociological institutional framework was applied to analyse the data. Results Institutional changes and the demand for joint care and teaching activities in the cooking project fostered new interprofessional collaboration. Three themes of new professional activities emerged: 1) ‘interplay’ related to making different generations collaborate on the tasks involved in the cookery session, 2) ‘care’ concerned with caregiving activities, and 3) ‘learning” focused on schooling on healthy food and cooking. The activities were related to traditional and new roles in professional practices of both groups. Conclusions Changes in professional practices evolved in an informal manner from new tasks and ‘lived’ experiences in the cookery project. The specific practical tasks of health promotion offer an important leverage for future interprofessional collaborations.

Academic reading is different from other forms of reading because it is complex and discipline-specific. It involves a measured, challenging, and multifaceted process in which students are dynamically engaged with a range of reading strategies. Academic reading improvement is possible, provided students work on it and there are no short cuts or remedies which will cure the reading problems. Reading improvement is hard work and a difficult task, but it is rewarding as well. This study examined the selection and use of academic reading strategies used by the undergraduate and postgraduate students studying at Leeds Metropolitan University, Headingley Campus, Leeds. A quantitative data study was carried out to investigate three aspects of academic reading strategies: (a) efficiency, (b) interacting with texts, and (c) critical reading strategies. The results of this survey suggest that the participants on balance have proficient reading skills, but a significant number of participants have ineffective reading strategies and bad reading habits. Recommendations and suggestions have been put forward to improve academic reading strategies and for further research.

En cambio, el bienestar y la educación mantienen una relación más significativa entre los encuestados.ABSTRACTCompetitiveness is a subject of study that affects different aspects of the individual and of the organizations. The demand that the modern environment towards the acquisition of skills, abilities and capacities impels diverse studies on the satisfaction that is obtained when trying to fulfill all the requirements in the process of development. In this research, we try to find a relation between competitiveness and the variables of happiness, welfare and education to validate the existence or significant influence among them. For these effects a correlation analysis and quantitative structural equations were used in a case study with a sample of 106 university graduates. The main findings indicate that happiness is a perception that can be presented as independent of competitiveness. In contrast, welfare and education have a more significant relationship among respondents.

The interviewed technicians are young, single, male individuals, with high academic qualifications, who collaborate in part-time in the companies with which they collaborate, with low remuneration resulting from the performance of the various functions they perform (technical, logistical, secretarial, and management), therefore working on other professional activities throughout the year. When analyzing the main problems identified in this study, the creation of an association of sports technicians of nature and tourist entertainment, the introduction of a training scheme, the production of legislation related to the regulation of access to the profession, and the implementation of a system for monitoring and evaluating the competence and performance of technicians are suggested.

There is a common belief among university students that they have to study hard attempting to earn high grades because employers are targeting graduates with outstanding academic records. However, this idea does not seem to capture what is actually happening in organizations, as firms value more aspects related with personality and other personal qualities of young graduates. We present a case study of the hiring process of recent university graduates to test these hypotheses. The methodology used follows a two stage approach. Principal component analysis allows us to identify first key categories of skills and attributes that influence the selection process. Then, using econometric analysis, a matrix classifies them according to employer size and type, degree, position and industry. The results show that soft skills (personality and other qualities) are the most required attributes in the selection process. Good academic records only matter in the public sector.
