The relationship between the family and civil society has always been complex, with the family often regarded as separate from, or even oppositional to, civil society. Taking a fresh empirical approach, this book reveals how such separation underestimates the important role the family plays in civil society. Considering the impact of family events, dinner table debates, intergenerational transmission of virtues and the role of the mother, this enlightening book draws on survey data from 1000 young people, a sample of their parents and grandparents, and extended family interviews, to uncover how civil engagement, activism and political participation are inherited and fostered within the home.

In the context of the formation of civil society in modern Russia with the traditionally significant role of the state, the problem of studying the inclusion of young people in a particular model of the relationship between these two institutions is of particular relevance. This choice will determine a certain type of political system in Russia in the future. The purpose of the study is to identify empirically groups of young people who are determined by the direction of value orientations in public life and their involvement in various models of interaction between the state and civil society. The empirical basis of the study was a project conducted in 2019 by Saint Petersburg State University and Altai State University to study the political consciousness of Russian youth. As a result of using multidimensional methods of analysis, the connection between the involvement of the citizen-state models and the types of value orientations of Russian youth is revealed. Four groups of young people were obtained, stratified by value orientations, the specifics of relations between the state and citizens of our country, and the choice of the preferred type of state to live in.

The underpinning objective of this current study to test the role of succession planning (structural, cognitive, and relational ties) and management accounting practices towards the performance (financial and non-financial) of family-owned SMEs with moderating role of networking orientation. We surveyed 306 owners/managers of family-owned SMEs from the sports good industry (manufacturing units). The findings show that the impact of succession planning, structural, cognitive and relational ties towards performance is positive and significant. Furthermore, management accounting practices significantly and positively influence the performance of family-owned SMEs. Moreover, networking orientation positively significantly moderates the relationship between succession planning, management accounting and performance of family-owned SMEs. The empirical findings of the current study facilitate the family-owned SMEs and policymakers in understanding the significance of succession planning and management accounting towards the performance and also enable them to understand the role of networking orientation

Population aging is the most important trend of the 21st century in the world. Vietnam has officially entered the period of population aging since 2014 with the fastest aging rate. “Population aging” is a noticeable topic in Vietnam today. And in fact, according to many researchers, the number, especially the number of in-depth researches and applicable researches are still limited. Based on the inheriting of precedence researches and the result of my fieldwork study conducted in nursing homes in Ho Chi Minh city, from a new viewpoint, the paper aims to explore the traditional role of elderly care of the family in relationship with using nursing home today. Until now, the traditional family has played the main role in elderly care in Vietnam. In the context of changing society under the impact of urbanization and industrialization today, studying about the traditional role of elderly care of family, the relationship between family and the trend of "socialization" of elderly care, the changes and predicted future trend when compared with Japan, etc. would be necessary. The research result shows that the Vietnamese still have a strong negative attitude toward elderly care homes, and the traditional role of the family of elderly care is still deeply maintained. But at the same time, some basic changes have also confirmed, such as the change in traditional filial piety, the strengthening of the role of social services such as elderly care homes, etc. It can be said that this is the outstanding characteristic of the status of elderly care in Vietnam today. And based on comparing with other countries, the study also shows that in order to find an effective elderly care model in Vietnam, it is necessary to pay much attention to the relationship with the family.

In understanding the political development of the pre-adult one of the central questions hinges on the relative and differentiated contributions of various socializing agents. The question undoubtedly proves more difficult as one traverses a range of polities from those where life and learning are almost completely wrapped up in the immediate and extended family to those which are highly complex social organisms and in which the socialization agents are extremely varied. To gain some purchase on the role of one socializing agent in our own complex society, this paper will take up the specific question of the transmission of certain values from parent to child as observed in late adolescence. After noting parent-child relationships for a variety of political values, attention will be turned to some aspects of family structure which conceivably affect the transmission flows.I. Assessing the Family's Impact: “Foremost among agencies of socialization into politics is the family.” So begins Herbert Hyman's discussion of the sources of political learning.1 Hyman explicitly recognized the importance of other agents, but he was neither the first nor the last observer to stress the preeminent position of the family. This viewpoint relies heavily on both the direct and indirect role of the family in shaping the basic orientations of offspring. Whether the child is conscious or unaware of the impact, whether the process is role-modelling or overt transmission, whether the values are political and directly usable or “nonpolitical” but transferable, and whether what is passed on lies in the cognitive or affective realm, it has been argued that the family is of paramount importance.

PurposeThe aim of this study is to examine the role and capabilities of fourth party logistics (4PL) in the supply chain agility and firm performance. In addition to this, the relationship between supply chain agility and firm performance is also examined. This study aims to fulfill the gap in the literature about the studies on the relationship between 4PL capability dimensions, supply chain agility and business performance.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses survey data from 58 senior executives and managers in the logistics and supply chain functions from 4PL service providers' customer firms in Turkey. The results are structural equation modeling using SmartPLS software. Snowball sampling method was used to collect survey data.FindingsThis study shows that integrator and supply chain infomediary are appropriate practices for mediating the impact of agile supply chain strategies, on firm performance. For supply chain practitioners, results indicate that firms benefit greatly if they consider the outsourcing, such as a 4PL partnership, in conjunction with their supply chain strategy.Research limitations/implicationsTime, cost and the presence of businesses located in different cities across Turkey in the sample of study and the existence of the tendency of enterprises not to participate in the research can be stated as the limitations of this study.Originality/valueIn the literature, studies on 4PL have been conducted in different fields which can be categorized as follows: 4PL solution development, reasons that facilitate and prevent the design and implementation of 4PL, scope of 4PL service delivery and profit and risk sharing from the structure of 4PL networks. Briefly, the studies focus on conceptualizing and differentiating of 4PL from 3PL before reaching a common definition. Motivation of this study is to fulfill the gap of literature about supply chain agility, firm performance relationship and mediation role of 4PL skill dimensions.

Research has indicated that multisystemic therapy (MST) is an effective treatment for youth with antisocial behaviours (Painter & Scannapieco, 2009). This qualitative study explored minority ethnic young peoples’ experiences of MST, focusing on their understanding of their presenting difficulties and aspects of the intervention which facilitated or hindered engagement and change. Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with London-based young people who had taken part in MST. A constructivist version of grounded theory analysis was employed. Culture-specific theoretical codes emerged; understanding the family culture and the practitioner acting as a cultural broker, consideration of acculturation differences within the family, exploring the young person’s cultural identity and reflecting on cultural differences in the therapeutic relationship. Findings suggest potential advances to MST practice to meet the needs of minority ethnic young people, including the importance of appropriate training and supervision, sensitively working with salient cultural issues such as the impact of acculturation, and consideration of the role of therapist ethnicity and culture.

Las interrogantes que abordamos son: ¿Qué ocurre en el ámbito familiar y las relaciones entre sus integrantes cuando las mujeres se insertan como trabajadoras de plantas maquiladoras? ¿Cuáles son los motivos que las impulsan a mantenerse en sus empleos o por qué los abandonan? ¿Qué significado le confieren a su trabajo? ¿Cuál es el rol de la familia en la decisión de que las mujeres se incorporen al mercado de trabajo? ¿Qué sucede cuando son despedidas o cuando las maquiladoras cierran? ¿Cómo repercute la pérdida de empleo en sus familias y en sus relaciones con sus miembros? Todo ello contemplado desde la heterogeneidad del mercado de trabajo, de la contracción del empleo acentuada en Yucatán y de los conflictos que se generan entre el mundo laboral y sus hogares.Abstract: The questions we address are: What happens in the family field and relations among their members when women are inserted as workers in maquiladora plants? Which are the reasons for them to stay in their jobs or why do they leave them? What is the meaning of their work? What is the role of the family in deciding whether women should enter or not the labor market? What happens when they are fired or when the maquiladoras are closed? What is the impact of job loss in their families and the relationship with their members? All of this is contemplated from the heterogeneity of the labor market, the sharp contraction of employment in the Yucatan state and conflicts that occur between the workplace and their homes.Résumé : Les questions traitées dans cet article sont les suivantes : Quelles sont les conséquences sur la famille et les relations entre ses membres de l’intégration des femmes en tant que travailleuses dans les usines maquiladoras ? Quelles sont les raisons qui les incitent à garder leur travail ou à l’abandonner ? Quelle signification donnent-elles à leur travail ? Quel est le rôle de la famille dans la prise de décision par les femmes d’entrer sur le marché du travail ? Qu’arrive-t-il lorsqu’elles sont licenciées ou que les usines ferment ? Quel est l’impact de la perte de l’emploi sur leur famille et sur leurs relations avec ses membres ? Tout ceci est étudié en prenant en compte l’hétérogénéité du marché du travail, la forte contraction du travail dans l’état du Yucatan et les conflits générés entre le lieu de travail et leurs foyers.

Whitsleblowing is one of the positive practices in organizations that are able to raise the level of integrity among the members of an organization. However, the roles of whistleblowing also inevitably invites a response, especially among members of the organization itself. This is because such practices are viewed as one factor that may be detrimental to the organization in addition to revealing the reporter (whistleblower) to some external threats and intimidation of discrimination within the organization. This paper is an attempt to examine the relationship between perceptions of members of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) Contingent of Perak through the role of whistleblowing practices to increase the perception of the integrity of the members. Next, identify the purpose of the whistleblowing and its effect on the integrity of the members of the organization. This study used a descriptive quantitative analysis to identify patterns of relationship that exists between the perception of whistleblowing practices with perceptions of increased integrity based on three basic variables of demographic factors, response to whistleblowing and the impact of making the report. The results showed that members of the Perak’s police have a positive perception of whistleblowing practices which are seen to be done in improving the integrity of the members.Keywords: whistleblowing, perception, RMP members, culture, integrity, organization, influence. ABSTRAK: Whitsleblowing merupakan salah satu amalan positif dalam organisasi yang mampu untuk meningkatkan tahap integriti ahli-ahli dalam sesebuah organisasi. Namun begitu, amalan whistleblowing juga turut tidak dapat mengelak daripada mengundang pelbagai respon khususnya dalam kalangan ahli organisasi itu sendiri. Amalan sebegini turut dilihat sebagai salah satu faktor yang boleh memudaratkan organisasi di samping mendedahkan pelapor (whistleblower) kepada beberapa bentuk ancaman ugutan dari luar dan diskriminasi dalam organisasi. Kertas ini merupakan satu upaya untuk melihat perkaitan antara persepsi anggota Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) Kontinjen Perak melalui peranan amalan whistleblowing terhadap persepsi peningkatan integriti anggota. Seterusnya, mengenalpasti maksud whistleblowing dan pengaruhnya terhadap tahap integriti anggota dalam organisasi. Kajian ini menggunakan analisis kuantitatif berbentuk deskriptif bagi mengenalpasti corak hubungan yang wujud antara persepsi terhadap amalan whistleblowing dengan persepsi terhadap peningkatan integriti berdasarkan tiga pembolehubah asas iaitu faktor demografi, tanggapan terhadap whistleblowing dan kesan daripada tindakan membuat laporan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa anggota PDRM Perak mempunyai persepsi yang positif terhadap whistleblowing yang mana ianya dilihat perlu dilaksanakan dalam meningkatkan integriti anggota.Kata kunci: whistleblowing, persepsi, amalan, anggota PDRM, budaya, integriti, organisasi, pengaruh.

The article raises the issue of the relationship of parent-child relationships and professional preferences in pedagogical dynasties. Particular attention is paid to the role of the family in the professional development of the individual. It has been suggested that there is a relationship between parent-child relationships and professional preferences.
