<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The purpose of this clinical case description article was to present the planning sequence, indication, treatment and performance to obtain a crown of the Endocrown type. This clinical case description article illustrates a therapeutic option for functional and esthetic rehabilitation of a devitalized mandibular molar, presenting a small amount of remaining coronal tooth structure, by means of cementing a pure porcelain crown of the Endocrown type (Adhesive Endodontic Crown). A 39-year-old woman presented to the Graduate clinic of the Bauru Dental School (FOB), University of São Paulo (USP), with the complaint that tooth #36 had an extensive and unsatisfactory composite resin restoration. The lithium disilicate-based system of monolithic porcelain was used with the lost wax technique. This therapy promoted the stability and retention of the indirect restoration, without the need for performing reconstruction of the above mentioned tooth, either by means of a cast metal core or reconstruction with intracanal post, thereby reducing the treatment time. After the tooth preparation, the provisional restoration was done with acrylic resin to determine if the retention and stability of the remaining tooth was adequate to receive the indirect Endocrown restoration. The characteristics of the internal and external walls of the dental remnants, cervical termination, impression-taking, laboratory stages and adhesive cementation will be discussed. The major advantage of indicating an endocrown is the use of the dental remnants itself, particularly the pulp chamber, to promote retention and stability in cases without adequate height for performing complete dental and crown reconstruction.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Keywords</strong></p><p>Adhesive endodontic crown; Devitalized tooth; Lithium dissilicate.</p>

Ranging from the extraction of teeth from anterior sector commitment to the loss of bone and soft tissues, alveolar preservation is a regenerative technique that employs biomaterials that induce the preservation of bone tissue and minimize resorption. Placement of provisional restorations at the defect site maintains the stability of the soft tissues and aesthetics at which the definitive restoration is found. The objective of this clinical case was alveolar preservation postextraction of the anterior tooth that presented a coronal fracture, placing the clinical crown of the extracted tooth as the provisional restoration to maintain stability and to avoid soft tissue collapse and compromise to an aesthetic area.

Purpose: Report a clinical case of recurrent oral herpes associated to secondary bacterial infection and discuss its clinical manifestation, evolution and treatment. Case description: Male patient, 24 years old, complaining about edema in the lower lip associated to vesicles, pus drainage sites and pain. The clinical diagnosis was herpes simplex the treatment chosen was the association of drug therapy and local care at hospital. On the fifth hospitalization’s day the patient had improved the clinical condition, presenting good healing and was discharged. Conclusion: Much of the world’s population have herpes simplex virus. The dentist must quickly diagnose and properly treat this pathology, to provide less discomfort and lower treatment time the patient.

Coronal rehabilitation of severely damaged endodontically treated teeth is the most challenging task as there is high risk of failure than vital teeth. Advances in adhesive dentistry have made great contributions to cosmetic & restorative dentistry over the past few decades. Endocrown is indicated for restoration of severely damaged molar, which requires specific restoration technique. This therapy promotes the stability and retention of the indirect restoration, without the need of a cast metal core or reconstruction with intracanal post, thereby reducing the treatment time. Endocrowns are formed from a monoblock containing the coronal portion integrated into the apical projection that fills the pulp chamber space and possibly the root canal ingresses. The major advantage of an endocrown is the use of the tooth structure remnant, particularly the pulp chamber, to promote retention and stability. This case report represents the restorations of severely damage mandibular molar teeth (46) by Endocrown which represented a conservative and aesthetic restorative alternative to full coverage crown. It was found that endocrown restorations could be made following the development of reinforced ceramics that can be acid etched, that have aggregate strength and esthetics, that bond to the dental structure, and that have developed from broader knowledge of the biomechanical behavior of depulped teeth restored with and without intraradicular posts. Clinical studies have shown that the endocrown has functional longevity, and has become a promising alternative in the esthetic and functional recovery of endodontically treated molar teeth.

Background: Vital tooth whitening has become an integral part of esthetic dentistry and remains one of the safest and most economic options today to improve dental esthetics without removing tooth structure. The tooth whitening materials have evolved into three categories: dentist-prescribed/dispensed (in office and patient home-use), and over-thecounter purchased and applied by patients. Objective: This review outlines the latest advances in dentist prescribed vital teeth whitening techniques, effects on tooth structure, soft tissues, and dental restoratives. Areas requiring additional research are also discussed. Methods: Electronic and manual literature search was conducted for key words such as tooth bleaching, and dental bleaching techniques using PubMed/MEDLINE, followed by manual selection of the studies that included whitening procedures in vital teeth. Results: The two main whitening agents are carbamide peroxide (CP) and hydrogen peroxide (HP or H2O2) whose concentration, duration of contact, and total treatment time can alter results. In addition, factors including the type of stain, and age of patient can affect results. Although whitening agents can affect tooth structure, restorative materials, and gingival tissues, the changes are temporary or can be treated using minimally invasive techniques. Conclusion: Areas requiring further research include the actual mechanism of whitening, its effect on tooth structure and restorative materials, and the development of an easy method to quantitate the degree of whitening in the dental office.

Acute wounds may require cleansing to reduce the risk of infection. Stabilized hypochlorous acid in acetic buffer (HOCl + buffer) is a novel wound irrigation solution with antimicrobial properties. We performed a first-in-man, prospective, open-label pilot study to document preliminary safety and performance in the treatment of acute wounds. The study enrolled 12 subjects scheduled for a split-skin graft transplantation, where the donor site was used as a model of an acute wound. The treatment time was 75 s, given on 6 occasions. A total of 7 adverse events were regarded as related to the treatment; all registered as pain during the procedure for 2 subjects. One subject had a wound infection at the donor site. The mean colony-forming unit (CFU) decreased by 41% after the treatment, and the mean epithelialization was 96% on both days 14 (standard deviation [SD] 8%) and 21 (SD 10%). The study provides preliminary support for the safety, well-tolerance, and efficacy of HOCl + buffer for acute wounds. The pain was frequent although resolved quickly. Excellent wound healing and satisfying antimicrobial properties were observed. A subsequent in vitro biofilm study also indicated good antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a 96% mean reduction of CFU, when used for a treatment duration of 15 min ( P < .0001), and a 50% decrease for Staphylococcus aureus ( P = .1010). Future larger studies are needed to evaluate the safety and performance of HOCl + buffer in acute wounds, including the promising antimicrobial effect by prolonged treatment on bacterial biofilms.

Permanent magnet couplings can convert a dynamic seal into a static seal, thereby greatly improving the stability of the underwater propulsion unit. In order to make full use of the tail space and improve the transmitted torque capability, a conical Halbach permanent magnet coupling (C-HPMC) is proposed in this paper. The C-HPMC combines multiple cylindrical HPMCs with different sizes into an approximately conical structure. Compared with the conical permanent magnet couplings in our previous work, the novel C-HPMC has better torque performance and is easy to process. The analytical calculation method of transmitted torque of C-HPMC is proposed on the basis of torque calculation of the three common types of HPMCs. The accuracy of the torque calculation of the three HPMCs is verified, and the torque performance of the three HPMCSs of different sizes is compared and discussed. The “optimal type selection” method is proposed and applied in the design of C-HPMC. Finally, on the basis of torque analysis calculation and axial force calculation, a complete flowchart of the design and performance analysis of C-HPMC is described.

This paper studies the attitude-tracking control problem of spacecraft considering on-orbit refuelling. A time-varying inertia model is developed for spacecraft on-orbit refuelling, which actually includes two processes: fuel in the transfer pipe and fuel in the tank. Based upon the inertia model, an adaptive attitude-tracking controller is derived to guarantee the stability of the resulted closed-loop system, as well as asymptotic convergence of the attitude-tracking errors, despite performing refuelling operations. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness and performance of the proposed control scheme.
