Introduction Pharmacists and pharmaceutical care services are among the most important tools in providing health services to the society. Pharmacists as the key players in presenting health services, critically impact on the health of the society and if they suffer low job satisfaction, their dissatisfaction may relatively threaten health in the society. This study was conducted to determine Sudanese community pharmacists’ job satisfaction and additionally, some causes of dissatisfaction among community pharmacists and their impact on providing pharmaceutical care services have been evaluated. Method The questionnaire was designed after reviewing relevant Literature in addition, The Job Satisfaction survey was used to measure the level of community pharmacists’ satisfaction with their current jobs, and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) was used to evaluate emotional experience and awareness. Results and Discussion Generally low scores of job satisfaction were concluded among pharmacists while most of them were highly satisfied with being pharmacist. Conclusion Low levels of job satisfaction which were found among Sudanese community pharmacists could be considered as a deficiency of health system in Sudan. Fortunately, inherent interest in the pharmacy profession found among Sudanese pharmacists is an optimistic point at which policy-makers could develop their modifying policies. Health policy-makers must endeavor to take other steps to issue solutions for this current problem.

Abstract Background: Job satisfaction of midwives is important to prevent skill shortage. Those working in midwife-led models of care were more satisfied than those working in standard care. Job satisfaction in the context of a midwife-led project was not researched previously. The aim of this study was to investigate job satisfaction before and after the implementation of a midwife-led intervention.Methods: Longitudinal observational study at three time points using quantitative and qualitative methods. A total of 43 midwives working in the labour ward participated in the online surveys and 5-7 in the focus group discussions. The surveys comprised questions from validated instruments. Descriptive and multivariable time series analysis were used for quantitative and content analysis for qualitative data.Results: Adjusted predicted scores decreased between t0 and t1 and subsequently increased at t2 without reaching baseline values (e.g ‘professional support subscales’: between t0 and t1: (0.65, 95% CI [0.45, 0.86] versus 0.26, 95% CI [0.08, 0.45], p=0.005) and t0 and t2 (0.65, 95% CI [0.45, 0.86] versus 0.29, 95% CI [0.12, 0.47], p=0.004). Focus group discussions revealed three themes: “Job satisfaction”, “Challenges with the implementation” and “Continuity of care”. Midwives perceived the additional tasks as stressors. Conclusion: The implementation of new interventions might increase work related stress and decrease job satisfaction in an early phase. This effect was stronger than the one of acquiring more autonomy and responsibility. Heads of institutions and policy makers should recognise the needs of support and additional resources for staff when planning new projects.

Purpose of study: To determine job satisfaction, perception towards pharmacists, and preparedness to provide pharmaceutical care (PC) among intern pharmacists. Methodology: A prospective survey of all intern pharmacists in South - Eastern Nigeria was done. A questionnaire with five sections measuring work characteristics, job satisfaction, perception towards pharmacists, and preparedness to provide PC was administered. Descriptive analysis and chi-square tests for differences in proportions were calculated. Results: It took interns an average of 10 months to get an internship position after graduation. The interns were barely satisfied with their workplaces and conditions (2.83 of 4.0). They held moderately positive perceptions about pharmacist's clinical roles in the hospital (3.79 of 5.0) and felt marginally prepared to provide PC on graduation (3.38 of 5.0). The interns’ age, gender, future career aspirations influenced their perception of pharmacists’ clinical roles and preparedness to provide PC (p<0.05 for all). Conclusion: It takes a very long time to get a place for an internship in Nigeria. Interns were marginally satisfied with their jobs, held favorable perceptions about the profession, and didn’t feel adequately prepared to provide PC in all items assessed.

As air travelling now becomes cheaper and available to almost all people of any walk of life, travelling across international borders is fast becoming a lifestyle of many. Having travel health service as part of health care services is important to address the issues of travel related illnesses among travellers. However, lacks of published guidelines pertaining to travel health service rendering many countries to overlook its importance. The aim of this paper is to review published literatures and authoritative websites on the components needed to develop guideline to establish travel health services. A systematic literature search was done using pre-specified keywords for literatures published between years 2000 – 2016. Literatures written in English and fully accessible were all included. No exclusion criteria was set before the search. Online authoritative websites pertaining to travel health were also referred. A total of six literatures ranging from expert opinion, review paper and original study, together with three authoritative websites related to travel health were reviewed. Among the important components needed to be considered for developing the guideline for establishing travel health services are to prioritise pre-travel health service, to set up specialised travel health clinic, to produce travel health/medicine specialist, to emphasize on continuous education and training of the practitioners and to apply multiagency and multidisciplinary approach with adequate fund for research in travel health. As a conclusion, policy makers should prioritise and select the most important components in developing guideline for travel health service.

Job satisfaction is considered one of the essential factors contributing to a person’s motivation, productivity and overall well-being, the present study aimes to assess job satisfaction and job-related stress levels among pharmacists that are currently registered and practicing in Palestine. we report a cross-sectional survey, including measures of satisfaction and stress (Health Professions Stress Inventory) questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, t-tests and one way ANOVAs. The significance level was set at P<0.05. Out of 694 questionnaires distributed, 576 were returned; 14 were not completed and excluded from analysis giving a net of 554 (79.8%) participants. Most of the respondents in the analysis sample were female (58.3%) working in community pharmacies (73.6%). The level of job satisfaction was 58.5%, the variables that contributed to the statistically significant, di"erences in the degree of job satisfaction were the region (p<0.001) and the monthly income (p<0.001). The t-tests and ANOVA analyses revealed that hospital pharmacists were the least likely to respond that job conflicts with family responsibility as a source of stress compared with community pharmacists (3.11 vs 2.14; p<0.001) and least likely scores in the professional recognition domain (3.21 vs. 2.79; p =0.04), respectively. Other job stressors like excessive work load, lack of promotion opportunities and poor physician pharmacists’ relationship have also been reported. Work life of pharmacists should be enhanced in order to improve their motivation and ability, because failure to reduce stress among workers puts both pharmacists and patients at risk

Introduction: The quality of health care services is one of the most frequently mentioned terms and concepts regarding principles of health policy and it is currently high on the agenda of National, European and International policy makers. Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive review is to investigate the correlation between quality in health services and the promotion of health care quality provided by health services. Methodology: The study material consisted of recent articles on the subject mainly found in the Medline electronic database and the Hellenic Academic Libraries Association (HEAL-Link). Results: The clinical quality of services is often difficult to be assessed by "clients" even after the service has been provided. This is due to the fact that customers experience illness, pain, uncertainty, fear and perceived lack of control. Thus, clients may be reluctant to "co-produce" because healthcare is a service they need while they may not want it and because the risk to harm their health is prominent. In the field of healthcare management, patients' perception refers to perceived quality, as opposed to the actual or absolute quality that requires critical management. This is why health care managers face constant pressure to provide qualitative health services. Conclusions: Continuous monitoring of health care services for quality assessment is essential, hence, the evaluation of patients' perceptions of quality of healthcare, has received considerable attention in recent years.

Background: Pharmaceutical care is an important aspect of healthcare provided by pharmacists which is associated with good clinical outcomes and improved quality of life. Robberies and insecurities is a common occurrence in community pharmacies and when left unchecked can have economic, financial consequences and also influence the provision of care. The aim of this study was to assess the perceived effect of insecurity on the provision of pharmaceutical care in community pharmacies in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Methods: This study was a cross sectional survey among community pharmacists in community pharmacies in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. All community pharmacies in Uyo metropolis were visited and an informed consent was obtained from the pharmacists before the beginning of the study. A semistructured questionnaire was used in the collection of data in this study. The questionnaire evaluated the perceived effect of the current robberies on pharmaceutical care where the evaluation statements were structured in Likert scale format. Results: A total of 76 pharmacists consented to participate in the study where 56 (73.7%) were males and 20 were females. The mean age of the study participants was 28.25±1.543 years and 82.9% of the participants had 1-10 years’ community pharmacy experience. Majority of the pharmacists agreed that insecurity has hindered history taking (52%), blood pressure checks (84.2%), patient counselling (80.2%) and decreased sales (52.6%). Conclusion: There is a negative perceived effect of recent insecurities on the provision of pharmaceutical care services and sales. This aspect should be explored in further studies and research.

Abstract The aim of this study was to assess community pharmacists’ (CPs) perceptions toward mental healthcare, and the barriers faced in providing pharmaceutical care (PC) services to these patients. A 40-item survey was posted to CPs. Ninety-six pharmacists participated. The majority (84.2%) agreed there is a role for CPs to play in mental health care, while approximately 60% agreed it is their responsibility to provide PC to these patients. The biggest barrier to providing this service is the lack of knowledge, cited by close to 50% of respondents. This corresponds with the revelation that close to 60% believe that they have a poor or fair understanding of mental disorders. About 30% of respondents said they do not stock psychotropic drugs at all, mainly due to medico-legal reasons, and low prescription requests. Our findings highlight the need for more training of CPs in managing patients with mental disorders.

There is a paucity of information on the perceptions of community pharmacists about the nature and effectiveness of pharmaceutical care services they provide to people living with dementia in care homes. This paper explores pharmacists’ perceptions of the nature and effectiveness of pharmacy services provided, and their experiences when providing these services. Community pharmacists delivering services to care homes with dementia in Thurrock, Essex and in Medway, Kent, England were invited to participate in the study involving face-to-face interviews. Analysis of semi-structured interviews with 15 community pharmacists revealed that the main pharmaceutical service provided by the pharmacists was prescription processing, normally involving the clinical review and supply of medication into monitored dosage systems (dosette boxes) and delivery to the homes. This was coupled with advice to care homes on the appropriate storage and administration of drugs and appliances supplied, which was in line with the NHS Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework Enhanced Service for care homes. A majority of the community pharmacists interviewed acknowledged that the services they were currently commissioned to provide did not meet the pharmaceutical care needs of dementia patients in care homes, including the monitoring of the appropriateness, safety and effectiveness of drug therapy.
