The structure and property of Ce-doped Ba0.2Sr0.8TiO3 (BST) were investigated as a function of Ce content. The density experiment results confirmed that increasing the Ce doping ratio caused the decrease in shrinkage factor of BST in the sintering procedure. Additionally, both Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the grain size of Ce-doped BST was dependent on the Ce content. Further more, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss had a curve relationship with increasing Ce content. The improvement of the electrical properties of Ce doping BST may be related to the decrease in the concentration of oxygen vacancies. According to the research, the diameter of grain, the dielectric constant and loss factor of the 1mol% Ce-doped Ba0.2Sr0.8TiO3 were 500nm, 365.8 and 0.0063, respectively.

AbstractThe crystal structure of (4E)-2-amino-3-cyanobenzo[b]oxocin-6-one, denoted as 4(E)-ACBO, was analyzed using X-ray diffraction technique. The dielectric and AC electrical conductivity measurements of the bulk 4(E)-ACBO in the form of pellet were studied in the range of frequency 42 Hz to 5 MHz and the temperature range of 303 K to 373 K. The temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric constant (∊1), dielectric loss (∊2) and AC electrical conductivity (σAC) were investigated. The relaxation time (τ) for electrons to hop over a barrier of height WH was calculated at different temperatures. The AC activation energy was determined from the temperature dependence of σAC at different frequencies.

Magnesium sulfoborate glasses of different compositions were prepared using melt quenching method with the purpose of using it for optical properties. The Fourier Transform Infra-red (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) have been carried out. Density and molar volume have been evaluated and analysed. From the results of XRD, the absent of discrete and continuous sharp peaks confirmed the amorphous nature of the glass compositions while the results from both FTIR and NMR revealed the existence of BO3, BO4 units. Addition of MgO to sulfoborate influenced the conversion of the dominant BO3 groups to BO4 groups. The BO4 groups are known for creating complex defects that transform into that stable trap good for optical phenomena. It was observed that the density of glass increases while the molar volume is decreases with respect to increase in concentration of alkaline earth oxide in the glass compositions.

Semiconducting lead vanadate glasses with CoO substitution represented as xCoO-(50-x) PbO-50V2O5 with x=5,10 and 15 mol% were prepared by melt quenching technique. They were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and DC electrical conductivity. The overall features of these XRD curves reveal the amorphous nature of present glasses. SEM investigations were conducted for the micro structural characterization of V2O5 crystal phases. Density was observed to decrease with an increase in CoO content. The dc electrical conductivity of the present system increases as the concentration of substitution of CoO increases with 5molpercentage to 15molpercentage.

A series of new aromatic polyesters containing a (4-phenoxyphenyl)phenylmethene linkage were prepared by phase transfer-catalyzed interfacial polycondensation of 1,1-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-(4-phenoxyphenyl)-1-phenylmethane with terephthaloyl chloride, isophthaloyl chloride, and so on. The inherent viscosities of the polyesters ranged from 0.62 to 0.90 dL/g, while number-average molecular weights were in the range of 30,500–35,500 g/mol. All the polyarylates were readily soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform (CDCl3), tetrahydrofuran, meta-cresol, pyridine, N, N-dimethylformamide, N, N-dimethylacetamide, and 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone at room temperature, and could be cast into tough, transparent, and flexible films from their CDCl3 solutions. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurements revealed the amorphous nature of the polyarylates. These polymers showed glass transition temperatures ( Tgs) between 178°C and 240°C and decomposition temperatures at 10% weight loss ranging from 446°C to 483°C, while the initial degradation temperatures in the range of 410–435°C under nitrogen atmosphere. These new polyarylates exhibited higher Tgs and better solubility than bisphenol A-based analogues.

We report on the miscibility and phase behaviour of polypyrrole-polyaniline (PPy/PANI) as a function of blend composition. The PPy/PANI blends were prepared by solution processing method, using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent. Characterization of the polymer blends was carried out based on the data analysis from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The PPy/PANI system was successfully formed blends in DMSO solvent. The polymer blends showed almost amorphous nature in XRD spectra because of intermolecular interaction between PPy and PANI macromolecules, which was confirmed by FT-IR data. Specifically, the DSC result for the PPY : PANI = 50 : 50 wt.% blend showed only one glass transition temperature (Tg), which indicates that the two polymers are well miscible without undergoing any phase separation.

ABSTRACT(001)-oriented heterostructures consisting of LaAlCO3 substrates, SrRuO3 bottom electrodes, and Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3) O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) piezoelectric actuators were deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). 4-circle x-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the epitaxial growth of each layer. In general, the electrical properties were found to be very sensitive to the processing conditions, in particular, the growth temperature. At growth temperatures below ∼620°C, the temperature dependence of the dielectric constant and the onset of a hysteritic polarization were found to be depressed by as much as 80 °C. When growth temperatures were increased above 660°C, electrical properties with temperature dependencies more consistent with those of single crystals were observed.

The starch-based foam was preprared by moulding process and studied the effects on the density, mechanical properties, hardness and water absorption capacity of the foams with different polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) contents. The microstructure and crystallization of the foam was observed through the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that the addition of PVA could better improve the material mechanical properties, the elongation at break was increased from 15.72% to 113.86% while the hardness was reduced from 37.3 to 16.7. The density of foam reached to the minimum value of 0.261 g/cm3, attaining to the maximum tensile strength of 1.08 Mpa. SEM and XRD showed that the compatility of starch and PVA was very good and the addition of PVA helped to improve the bubble distribution of foam and inhibit the retrogradation of starch granules.

In this article, Sm(Sal)xPhen, SmyY1-y(Sal)3Phen were synthesized and its films were prepared. They were characterized by infrared spectra (IR), ultra-violet visible spectrometer (UV), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and fluorescence spectroscopy. Sm/Y complexes and its mixture doped with the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) showed photoluminescence at the wavelength of 646 nm. There was an excellent compatibility among Sm/Y complexes, the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), which were used to prepare the resin film. The results indicated that Sm/Y rare earth light conversion films were better light conversion films with good compatibility in resins, and with emission wavelength suitable for plants’ photosynthesis.
