Humans in this world are very dependent on petroleum and energy. Petroleum and other energies are a major source in supporting human life. Regarding the reduced petroleum availability, a new energy is needed to replace the role of petroleum. Nowadays, there is much renewable energy that have been discovered and used. The purpose of this research is to predict the total primary energy supply in Indonesia by using α-Sutte Indicator and ARIMA method, and comparing those four methods which are effective in predicting data. Data from the research is renewable energy (total primary energy supply) which is obtained from OECD from 1971-2015. From the research, it is found that the α-Sutte Indicator method is more suitable to predict renewable energy (total primary energy supply) data in Indonesia compared to ARIMA (0,1,0).

The study analyzes the economics of renewable energy sources into electricity generation in Tanzania. Business as usual (BAU) scenario and renewable energy (RE) scenario which enforce a mandatory penetration of renewable energy sources shares into electricity generations were analyzed. The results show total investment cost for the BAU scenario is much lower as compared to RE scenario while operating and maintenance variable costs are higher in BAU scenario. Primary energy supply in BAU scenario is higher tied with less investment costs as compared to RE scenario. Furthermore, the share of renewable energy sources in BAU scenario is insignificant as compared to RE scenario due to mandatory penetration policy imposed. Analysis concludes that there are much higher investments costs in RE scenario accompanied with less operating and variable costs and lower primary energy supply. Sensitivity analysis carried out suggests that regardless of changes in investments cost of coal and CCGT power plants, the penetration of renewable energy technologies was still insignificant. Notwithstanding the weaknesses of renewable energy technologies in terms of the associated higher investments costs, an interesting result is that it is possible to meet future electricity demand based on domestic resources including renewables.

As energy is a vital element for sustained economic growth and development, therefore energy consumption is used as a basic indicator of people’s living standards. Due to technological and industrial development, the demand of energy in Pakistan is increasing more than the total primary energy supply; therefore, it is confronting the severe energy deficit today. So there should be a serious concern for the government about the energy security and should take actions for the development of indigenous alternative and renewable energy resources. Renewable portfolio supply (RPS), and carbon tax are the two indirect policy options used for the improvement of energy security. Renewable Energy Promotion is used to reduce greenhouse gas emission, promote local energy sources and improve energy security through reducing energy dependency and diversification of energy sources. Carbon tax is an indirect policy option for energy security enhancement through emission reduction. Imposing tax on carbon emission will alter the primary energy supply mix, more efficient fuel and technologies will be substituted for less efficient fuel and technologies. This will reduce the primary energy demand and lead to improved energy security.

The aim of the work is to analyze some global scenarios for bioenergy development, including the development in certain sectors, as well as to identify priority areas for bioenergy in Ukraine. Today, bioenergy is a world leader in renewable energy, playing a significant role in replacing fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Over the last twenty years, the global primary energy supply from biomass and biofuels has tripled and reached more than 10% of the total primary energy supply, accounting for almost 70% of the contribution of all renewable sources. The International Renewable Energy Agency predicts that by 2050, renewable energy sources could account for 60% or more of the total final energy consumption of many countries. The share of biomass in the global final consumption of renewable energy might be almost half in 2030 and 40% in 2050. According to the International Energy Agency, starting from 2030, one can expect to use only modern bioenergy technologies with increasing consumption of modern biomass up to about 100 EJ in 2050. For Ukraine, the priority areas seem to be combined heat and power production from biomass, as well as production of biomethane for the direct replacement of natural gas and carbon-neutral balancing of the energy system with a high share of renewable sources. For the thermal energy sector, the introduction of modern boilers and CHP plants running mainly on agricultural biomass is recommended. For the transport sector, prospects are the production of first and second generation liquid biofuels, as well as biomethane from biomass obtained in compliance with sustainability criteria.

The article analyzes the dynamics of consumption of primary energy and production of electrical energy in the world for 1973-2012 and the volume of renewable energy. It is shown that in the crisis year of 20 0 9 there was a significant reduction in primary energy consumption and production of electrical energy. At the same time, renewable energy has developed rapidly, well above the rate of the world economy growth. The development of renewable energy is one of the most effective ways out of the crisis, taking into account its production regime, energy, environmental, social and economic efficiency. The forecast for the development of renewable energy for the period up to 2020, compiled by the IEA, is analyzed. It is shown that its assessment rates are conservative; the authors justify higher rates of development of renewable energy.

This chapter reviews relevant literature on the current state and effectiveness of developing renewable energy on energy security in general, and on energy security in the European Union (EU) in particular. The chapter elaborates on primary energy import sources, possible alternatives, and how energy security is affected by the sources of supply. It also gives an analysis of the effects of the Ukrainian crisis, the isolation of Iran on diversification sources, and on European energy security. It examines EU’s energy policy, analyses the best motivation for a new energy policy direction within Europe, and suggests alternative solutions for enhanced energy supply security. The aim is to suggest suitable solutions for energy security in Europe through energy supply diversification. Supply diversification includes alternative energy corridors for reducing dependency on Russia as a supplier and enhancing the power generated by renewable energy sources under the European Union 2020 strategy.

Abstract. Even if greenhouse gas emissions were stopped today, sea level would continue to rise for centuries, with the long-term sea-level commitment of a 2 °C warmer world significantly exceeding 2 m. In view of the potential implications for coastal populations and ecosystems worldwide, we investigate, from an ice-dynamic perspective, the possibility of delaying sea-level rise by pumping ocean water onto the surface of the Antarctic ice sheet. We find that due to wave propagation ice is discharged much faster back into the ocean than would be expected from a pure advection with surface velocities. The delay time depends strongly on the distance from the coastline at which the additional mass is placed and less strongly on the rate of sea-level rise that is mitigated. A millennium-scale storage of at least 80 % of the additional ice requires placing it at a distance of at least 700 km from the coastline. The pumping energy required to elevate the potential energy of ocean water to mitigate the currently observed 3 mm yr−1 will exceed 7 % of the current global primary energy supply. At the same time, the approach offers a comprehensive protection for entire coastlines particularly including regions that cannot be protected by dikes.

MRE provides great potential for Malaysia, an emerging economy, to diversify its primary energy mix and ensuring the security of its energy supply. In this paper, the state-of-the-art of each MRE type is studied alongside hydrographical and geographical conditions of Malaysian waters. It is based upon this knowledge that an MRE scheme is proposed for Malaysia. However, introducing a complex MRE system into Malaysia’s energy pool requires in-depth understanding of key governing factors and the dynamic behaviours of its implementation using a systemic approach. Results from system dynamics modelling have identified key-enablers to fast-track the implementation of MRE in Malaysia.

The changes in the sphere of the main energy sources in the world and in individual countries were highlighted; the prospects for Russian energy carriers in the global hydrocarbon market were identified. The demand for an energy carrier whose use in Germany is planned to be discontinued (coal) and the demand and competition for natural gas - Russian energy carrier that remains competitive in the conditions of “green” energy were analyzed. The Russian opportunity to save the energy supply market on the background of the new energy order are considered.
