Keyword: gang seluler, postmodern, korporasi multinasional. The name of the alley has been considered as a sign of address or road and is commonly found in urban communities that are prevalent with individualistic relations. Nevertheless, the name of the alley is now also starting to be found in a rural environment. But what if the alley in the countryside is named after the cell phone logo and brand? Of course it is a paradoxical and strange reality. That reality is one of the strange realities in the postmodern era, in which multinational corporations have succeeded in attacking people’s consciousness ideologically (totally). This success is also the result of media collaboration (information and communication technology) and a very intimate and massive market. Therefore, how do we find the exit from the trap?Keyword: cellular alley names, postmodern, multinational corporation.

Much has been written about the proliferation of the modern multinational corporation (MNC) as a primary driver of globalization [Bhagwati, 2004; Rugman and Verbeke 2004; Wolf. 2004]. A common theme shared by all MNCs expanding into foreign markets is the notion of how best to manage the knowledge assets of the firm from all perspectives in order to achieve maximum performance while concomitantly increasing the ability of the firm to innovate while expanding. This paper examines the processes of idea creation within multinational corporations in parallel with the role that information and communication technology (ICT) plays as a driver of that innovation.

The use of Telemedicine in the assessment of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's Disease is evolving with advances in Information and Communication Technology. This article outlines the course of evolution in Western Australia, a large state with a sparse population outside of the capital city. The starting point of the evolution, video-conferencing in Telehealth studios, is reviewed as well as the next stage, use of desktop technology, which enables the physician to consult from the office or clinic. A pilot study currently being undertaken to assess the validity of the latest stage in evolution of Telehealth—the use of handheld mobile cell phone video calling that allows the physician and patient to interact at locations convenient to both parties. The pitfalls and implications of the use of this stage, should it prove to be a valid approach, are discussed.

This study aims to: (1) describe the description of the prestige of urban recreation in Almira Bastari's Resign novel; (2) describe the description of the instant life culture of urban communities in Almira Bastari's Resign; (3) describe the description of the virtual lifestyle of urban communities in Almira Bastari's Resign; (4) describe the description of the individualist lifestyle of urban society in Almira Bastari's Resign novel. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. Based on the results of data analysis obtained; (1) the recreational prestige of urban community leaders in Almira Bastari's Resign includes education, employment, entertainment venues visited, and restaurants visited; (2) the instant life culture of urban communities depicted in Almira's Resign in general coming to fast food restaurants; (3) the individualist lifestyle of urban society in Almira Bastari's Resign as if it had never been separated from technology and communication in everyday life. Urban communities rely on information and communication technology to seek information, communicate, and obtain entertainment; (4) a portrait of the lifestyle of the individual urban society in Almira Bastari's Resign, like to do everything by yourself and some people prefer to live without the interference of othersKeywords: urban society, Resign novel, Almira Bastari

We report a qualitative study of ICT (information and communication technology) use among a group of homeless people on Skid Row, Los Angeles. Participants in our ethnographic study frequently used mobile phones and computers, but not for the purposes documented in other studies such as managing friendships, enlisting family support, finding housing, and seeking employment. They were instead seeking respite to escape their stressful daily lives. We argue that urban communities should adopt a multi-agency approach and provide support centers offering homeless people access to computers and Wi-Fi. Increased access to ICT would both facilitate homeless people’s capability to cope with their difficult environment.

Aim/Purpose: A vital business activity within organizations is tacit knowledge (TK) transfer. This work aims to propose a novel framework for TK transferability in multinational corporations (MNCs) from the information and communication technology (ICT) perspective. Background: In the past two decades, researchers have developed several frameworks for TK transfer based on humanistic, business, and educational perspectives. However, a review of the existing work revealed that TK transfer has seldom been examined from an ICT perspective. Methodology: A qualitative method was adopted because it was considered the most appropriate for the research requirements. A grounded theory approach was employed to generate the items that potentially affect the transferability of TK. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data, along with observations when possible. The study sample consisted of 20 expert interviewees in Malaysia. An inductive ongoing data analysis process based on grounded theory via open, axial, and selective coding was used as the primary analysis method. In addition, comparative and frequency count analyses were used to examine the collected data. Contribution: The main contribution of this study is its use of the grounded theory approach, which resulted in the generation of items that affect the transferability of TK, not all of which had been identified by previous researchers. This paper reports one of the few inductive studies conducted on TK transferability among MNCs and, therefore, makes distinct contributions to the literature on TK management, specifically bringing to the fore the intricacies involved in TK transferability. Findings: Information and communication technology plays a crucial role in and has a positive impact on TK transfer in MNCs. This study evaluated the potential of various ICT channels to facilitate TK transfer. The findings show that ICT tools cannot completely substitute for face-to-face contact. Tacit knowledge that has a high degree of complexity requires sophisticated channel features for its transfer. From this standpoint, virtual face-to-face communication is the richest communication medium in the ICT hierarchy. On the other hand, email and voicemail are less effective channels for TK transfer, while synchronous groupware is an intermediate communication medium. The findings highlight the importance of utilizing an appropriate mix of channels to improve TK transferability. Recommendations for Practitioners: It is recommended that practitioners consider the diverse aspects of TK and the potential of a range of ICT channels for the TK transfer process in order to increase the efficiency of TK transfer. The analytic categories developed in this study may give managers new insights into and a better understanding of how TK can be supported in a modern organization and how to overcome the barriers to TK transfer.

This paper studies whether and how information and communication technology (ICT) changes self-construal and cultural values in a developing country. Ethiopian children were given laptops in the context of an ICT for development scheme. We compared children who used laptops (n = 69) with a control group without laptops (n = 76) and a second control group of children whose laptop had broken down (n = 24). Results confirmed that after 1 year of laptop usage, the children’s self-concept had become more independent and children endorsed individualist values more strongly. Interestingly, the impact of laptop usage on cultural values was mediated by self-construal (moderated mediation). Importantly, modernization did not “crowd out” traditional culture: ICT usage was not associated with a reduction in traditional expressions (interdependent self-construal, collectivist values). Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
