Use of prefabrication in construction projects is increasing due to the benefits in cost, time, quality, and safety. However, utilizing prefabrication introduces uncertainties inherent with the supply chain of the process. These uncertainties, if not managed, can disrupt the prefabrication process and result in schedule delays and cost overruns. This study proposes a model to measure disruption risks in the prefabrication process. The model was used in measuring the disruption risks of prefabrication of headwalls in patients’ rooms for a healthcare project as a pilot study. The risk model could successfully identify the disruption risks originating anywhere in the supply chain based on input information such as required material quantity, batch sizes of material deliveries, production rates, and batch sizes of transporting the headwall units. Using the model, the project team identified two uncertainties that could lead to possible disruptions: the start of the prefabrication processes and the required production rate to meet the on-site schedule. This is a first step to developing a risk exposure model that can prove valuable to the risk managers to analyse and manage the impact of disruptions. This will help the risk managers in making informed decisions about where to focus their limited resources.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact that cost overruns and time delays exert on large public construction projects to clarify how past and current research regard factors causing cost overruns and time delays in large public construction projects. Design/methodology/approach This paper, which is based on an analysis of a literature selection consisting of 40 journal articles, investigates and ranks the occurrence of and the explanations for cost overruns and time delays in large public construction projects. The study makes use of a kiviat diagram/radar chart in order to visualize multivariate data. Findings Aggregated rankings of important causes of cost overruns and time delays are reported. These show a strong emphasis on the management aspect as a primary cause of cost overruns and delays. Additionally, there seems to be a trend toward deemphasizing the role of financial considerations in explaining cost overruns and delays. It is argued that there needs to be a more rigorous assessment of the impact that each factor has on cost increases and delays based on factual observed data as opposed to retrospective accounts from questionnaire respondents. Research limitations/implications Only public construction projects have been considered. The results will not be directly applicable to privately funded construction projects and/or projects of a smaller size. Originality/value The use of trend data, as illustrated in a kiviat diagram, showing how different ranking factors causing cost overruns and time delays has changed in importance over time.

Construction is questionably a main part in relative to comprehensive development . It plays an important part in the role in the economy as and in people’s survives over influencing and preserving the environment of the city-region’s constructed, and it is a rising sector. To provide an efficient performance and more development of the economic, there is emphases on optimizing the employees contribution to the goals and areas of the governments. The training significance as a management central part has long been documented by principal writers. This paper aim to find the impact of training in the construction industry and how the training is been underestimate lead in increase the cost by using the simulation technique system dynamic. The research methodology include designing of questionnaire that consist of three items , the first item include , general Training (Training Program), evaluation of on-the-job training and evaluation of training after establishing work and the second part include building the model using system dynamic to show the effect of training on the cost of construction. the results the authors made the following conclusions .The absence of training program has very strong effect as the absence of such program is caused by the finance absence , this is common problem with Iraqi construction industry. The most environment of the Iraqi industry is the absence of the finance from both owner and contractor as they ignore this part and consider unnecessary expenses and this will lead to unqualified engineering or worker in the wrong job .The absence of management mean that , usually the contractor and his staff are working without the supervise or represented from the owner side , which some time mean unskilled workers may be hired which lead to delay of the work and cost overruns .

Purpose This paper aims to examine the relationship of supply chain disruption risk drivers to supply chain performance and firm performance outcomes. Design/methodology/approach Four disruption risk drivers for a supply chain are identified, namely, demand disruption risk, supply disruption risk, process disruption risk and environment disruption risk. A cross-sectional survey was developed and data was collected from 315 Chinese firms to determine the relationship of supply chain disruption risks to supply chain performance and firm performance. Findings The empirical findings show that supply disruption risks and process disruption risks have a significant impact on supply chain performance. In addition, this paper shows that supply disruptions, demand disruptions and process disruptions are significantly related to firm performance. This paper shows that supply chain disruption risks have different effects on supply chain performance and firm performance. Managers should be aware that disruption risk drivers can have an impact on firm performance that is different from their impact on supply chain performance. An important finding of the study is that the magnitude of the impact of disruption risks on supply chain performance is greater on the upstream side of the supply chain than on the downstream side of the supply chain. Originality/value This is one of the early studies to examine the effect of supply chain disruption risk drivers on both firm performance and supply chain performance. An important finding of the study is that the magnitude of the impact of disruption risks on supply chain performance is greater on the upstream side of the supply chain than on the downstream side of the supply chain.

The critical point of performance and risk supply chain in a dairy product agro-industries was found in the product’s perishable characteristics. Bacterial and antibiotic contaminations have been identified as the major risks. This risks arise from a series of activities strarting from farms, cooperatives and Milk Processing Industry that will affect the entire supply chain performance. This paper aimed to design performance and risk supply chain model for agroindustrial dairy product supply chain risks by using Fuzzy Associative Memories (FAMS) approach. The approach isused to translate a quantity that is expressed using the language (linguistic). The fuzzy logic system provides fourbasic elements, namely :  (i) rule base; (ii) inference engine; (iii) fuzzification; (iv) defuzzification. There are three proposed components in the model, namely : (i) performance profile; (ii) risk profile and (iii) risk exposure, which were expressed in time, cost and quality. Theinitial stage began with the analysis of invetible exposure risk exposure, including analysis of environmental and configuration characteristics, as well as dairy agro-industries supply chain. The second stage wasanalysis of evitable exposure risk, while the third stage was to change, risk exposure into time, cost and quality performance units. The second stage generateds risk magnitude of risk as a function of probability andseverity, the two value that were measured with Fuzzy AssociativeMemories (FAMS). The Model, therefore  showed the  impact of emerging risks damage to the agro-industry supply chain, which could be measured and be minimized in order to improve the robustnesss of the supply chain.

Rapid technological advancements force organizations to be more proactive and efficient it operations while previous studies revealed that most of the public sector projects go over in term of time and cost. Although extensive literature is available but only for the private sector, the investigations on the public sector are scarce. After plentiful literature, it has found that timely and sage supply chain is a major hurdle. Various strategies and approaches have been proposed to tackle the situation but after a thorough investigation, it was found that flexibility and collaboration are the topmost influencing factors in improving logistic efficiency. Thus the aim of this study is to empirically verify the positive impact of flexibility and collaboration on logistic efficiency. A questionnaire was adopted and distributed by random sampling to the strategic level of the construction projects in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. Multiple regressions were applied through SPSS. The finding of the study revealed that flexibility contributes 33%, collaboration contributes 35.5% in the logistic efficiency. It can be concluded that construction projects must be flexible and force stakeholders for collaboration. This study added in the frame of knowledge as new findings for public sector projects. This study will help the managers in completing their projects timely and accurately.

Variation orders are an on-going phenomenon in construction and industry projects worldwide, particularly in the province of Sulaimani, where the project's damage from cost and schedule overrun because of variation orders. However, the effect on project costs and time overrun of variation order has yet to be identified. This study evaluates the impact of variation orders on the cost and time off in the Sulaimani governorate. Two hundred twenty-eight projects from various construction sectors built between 2007-2012 were adopted to calculate the contract cost and schedule overruns due to variation orders. Data analysis was applied in the study were descriptive statistics. One-way ANOVA was also applied to determine whether the overrun of project cost and schedule significantly varied depending on project type, size, duration, location, and awarded years. The findings indicated that cost overruns are very common due to variation orders. 95.6% of the projects were studied being impacted, and overrun in project cost are also huge, with 16%. Time also overruns more common than cost overruns due to the variation orders. 98.7% of the projects were studied in Sulaimani were affected by time overrun with an average of 46.3% of initial duration observed. Findings also indicated that two out of five parameters measured in the analysis had a significant correlation with project cost overruns. Three out of five considered variables correlated with construction time overruns.

Performance of the construction projects have been criticized for many years due to their low productivity rates and cost overruns as well as significant delays. Increasing number of dissatisfied customers compel practitioners to reform conventional practices of construction management. Lean construction has emerged as a result of these efforts in the industry. However, there are limited number of studies that demonstrate the practical benefits of lean construction applications. The aim of this paper is to untangle practical applications of lean construction and to reveal their benefits. A methodology was developed to compare the lean and non-lean scenarios of a residential building project by means of Monte Carlo simulation. Simulation models were generated through regular meetings held with construction planning experts. Research findings demonstrate that application of lean construction principles have a potential to improve the performance of projects by reducing both the total project duration and its expected variation. In addition, the study revealed that utilization of practical lean construction principles may result in a considerable amount of time reduction in wall construction and plastering activities of residential building projects. Although the findings of this study cannot be generalized, they are expected to encourage practitioners to adopt lean construction principles.
