The action of thinking, which is human-specific, forms the basis of art since yesterday. The individual and the communities not only relieve their vital activities, but also produce products that carry aesthetic value by utilizing the power of sensory and intellectual expression, and use them, keep them, transfer them to future generations, and they are the result of their spiritual meaning beyond their existing constitution. Analyzing the art works, movements, periods and artists in relation to different disciplines such as history, sociology, philosophy, mythology, explaining the concepts of art are some of the purposes of writing the art books. In this study, the current cover designs of books related to the history of art in Turkish literature, will be examined descriptively in accordance with the visual design elements. Annotation. The article analyzes the little-studied art of the Ukrainian publishing sign, which has a history of almost fifty years and is well known for its highly artistic works. An excursion into the past of the Ukrainian publishing label has been made, collecting documents scattered across various sources of reports on samples of the publishing labels, both known and in the vast majority of unknown authors, and we pay tribute to this important cultural heritage that has developed in the course of the European process. The publishing signs of the second half of XX – beginning of XXI centuries are described and their artistic features are analyzed. The art of the Ukrainian emblem, especially in the last century, has not been practically studied. Probably, the topic is considered too small to draw enough attention. Turning pages of the book, few people pay atten- tion to the publishing house, thanks to which we have the happy opportunity to hold it. The artistic decision of modern publishing signs, which often quite often has a small font character, is not striking. They are created mainly by artists, editorial staff, without paying much attention to this process. However, there are times when they turn out to be the work of talented young artists who, over time, become famous. For example, the well-known art publishing signs for the leading Kiev publishing houses "Art" (artist V. E. Perevalsky) and "Rainbow" (artist O. I. Gubarev), created at that time by young graphic artists, who are now well-known folk artists of Ukraine. However, the art of the sign is an important component of book graphics, it does not lose its relevance at a new stage of society and deserves in-depth study.

The research centers upon the bibliographical study of the history (1991–2017) and prehistory (1957–1990) of M. M. Prishvin’s «Diaries» (1905–1954) publication recognized as the longest (18 volumes) diaries in Russian literature.  In modern science Prishvin’s «Diaries» are studied in a number of aspects: as a historical and cultural chronicle of the country in 1905–1954; the writer’s self-consciousness and creative laboratory; a fiction text in the system of its motives, literary and philosophical contexts, as well as from the point of view of its publishing fate which is narrowly understood as a fragmentary history of its publication.  The paper novelty is due to, first, reconstruction of the history and prehistory of the «Diaries» publication, and second, the system analysis of the publication history in connection with the changing economic models of publishing business, types of publishing houses, their repertoire, strategies, and features of the editorial work during the publication of the collected works. Moreover, the author distinguishes three types of ego-texts in Prishvin’s works (sketch books, diary, and diary books) and, accordingly, different publication strategies.  The study reveals that within the prehistory of the «Diaries» publication there were two main approaches to their publishing: first, they were published in shortened versions (1986); second, in fragmentary versions based on the thematic or chronological principle, most often in a journal variant.  Prishvin’s «Diaries» are considered in the context of the writer’s whole collected works: the pre-Soviet («Znanie Publishing House», 1912–1914) and the Soviet («Gosizdat», 1927–1930, 1929–1931; «Goslitizdat», 1935–1939; «Khudozhestvennaya literature», 1982–1986) periods.  The history of Prishvin’s «Diaries» publication in the post-Soviet period is described as a collective book project carried out by the efforts of five state and non-state publishing houses: «Moskovskii Rabochii» (1991–1995), «Russkaya kniga» (1999–2004), «ROSSPEN» (2012); «Novyi Khronograf» (2013–2014); and «Rostok» (2006–2017). The author demonstrates the «Diaries» connection with the repertoire and strategies of these publishers.  After the reconstruction of the history and prehistory of Prishvin’s «Diaries» publication from the initial fragments to full print and electronic versions, the author convincingly proves that this long-term collective book project belongs to the local history of the Russian publishing industry in the XX–XXI centuries.

In the history of mankind, translation has played an important role in popularizing the individual achievements of different civilizations among other nations. This rings true about the Chinese translated literature in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian translated literature in China. The article focuses on individual books as it is extremely challenging to include in this collection the translations published in magazines and newspapers. The translation of Chinese and Bulgarian literature had prolific periods marked by significant accomplishments. It is worth looking back at those works on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria. Both the translation of Chinese literature in Bulgaria and the translation of Bulgarian literature in China are taken into consideration, paying specific attention to the main titles, authors and their publication. The publishing houses specializing in culture and art in the two countries occupy the larger part of the book market. It may be concluded that all these translations tend to give spiritual food to the Chinese and Bulgarian readers. Although they introduce the people to a different tradition, culture and civilization, the choice of the main themes can be interpreted as a sign of a common taste for values and beauty.

Imagery is viewed as a hidden linguistic-stylistic category of a scientific text, the explication of which depends on the characteristics of the individual speech culture and the time of understanding the problem. The connection between scientific thinking and the figurativeness of the text is shown. It was determined that the imagery of a scientific text, in contrast to an artistic one, is not associated with the reproductive register of speech, it is formed by two linguistic and stylistic categories: the image of the subject of knowledge and, according to Yu. V. Rozhdestvensky, “the image of a scientific subject”. It is noted that scientific phraseology is formed in the same ways as poetic, but functionally different from it. The method of descriptive analysis revealed the associative and metaphorical fields of the key terms for linguistics. It has been established that scientific thinking is based on images of language-movement, language-space and language-social phenomenon. The authors believe that an appeal to related disciplines (linguistic personalology and the history of philology) makes it possible to develop fragments of a common scientific picture of the world at a certain historical stage, and to see the nature of their changes during the period of scientific paradigms change. The idea of the reproducibility of an image not as a “decoration” of speech, but a means of “figurative cohesion” (I. R. Galperin), a way of storing and transmitting information is fundamentally important in the article. The conclusion that the figurative paradigmatics influences the formation of the linguistic personality of the scientist-philologist is made.

AbstractThis article explores the history of two Tanzanian publishing houses and the remarkable life and career of Walter Bgoya, former general manager of Tanzania Publishing House (1972–90) and managing director of Mkuki na Nyota, which he founded in 1991. Using the lens of microhistory, and drawing from extensive interviews with Bgoya and conversations with two colleagues and three authors, the article first chronicles his early life and ideological formation and what influenced his career in book publishing. It then examines the key achievements and challenges faced by these publishing houses in different times of austerity (e.g. Structural Adjustment Programmes, foreign investment with conditionalities, declining state support and high printing costs), along with the complex ways in which Bgoya has navigated the shifting, often uncertain, political, financial and legislative landscapes, while retaining his intellectual freedom and core Pan-Africanist beliefs. Constraints have not hampered Bgoya's pursuit of ambitious projects or his commitment to publishing relevant and progressive books, either written by African authors or on African matters. I suggest that reducing the scale and identifying how specific conditions of austerity have affected the choices made by a publisher over time can yield insights into the ways in which cultural institutions have contributed to knowledge production and dissemination in postcolonial Africa.

General academic series “Scientific-biographical literature” exists under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the basis of the S.I. Vavilov Institute for the History of Science and Technology of RAS. Founded in 1959, it celebrated 60th anniversary in 2019. During this time, the series published about 700 original biographies of scientists, engineers and inventors, both Russian and foreign. In the period of 2015-2019, the series published four monographs representing the biographies of botanist A.N. Petunnikov (1842—1919) by G.I. Lubina, biologist N.N. Novikov (1876—1964) by T.I. Ulyankina, biochemist V.S. Gulevich (1867—1933) by T.V. Bogatova, and physicist Pierre-Gilles de Gennes (1932—2007) by A.A. Sonin. All these publications contain a large number of unique visual materials; this has already become a tradition for books in the series “Scientific-biographical literature”. They also have standard annex for the series, including list of the main dates of life and creative activity, reference lists of scientific works of book characters, and lists of literature about them. During the reviewed period, several manuscripts were approved for publication by the editorial Board of the series and included in the publishing plan of the Publishing house “Nauka”, but due to financial difficulties, they were not published in the series format. However, the prepared manuscripts have already been published in other publishing houses or are at the stage of editorial and publishing preparation. Among them there are biographies of French physicist, Nobel Prize winner Louis de Broglie (1892—1987) by A.F. Smyk; palaeontologist V.P. Amalitskiy (1860—1917) by V.I. Onoprienko; Honorary member of the USSR Academy of Science, palaeontologist M.V. Pavlova (1854—1938) by G.I. Lyubina and Z.A. Bessudnova; astronomer N.M. Subbotina (1877—1961) by O.A. Valkova. Currently, in 2020, no new publications are planned within the framework of the general academic series “Scientific-biographical literature”.

Uri Zvi Grinberg (1894–1981) lived at the crossroads of Jewish history, at a time when the Zionist movement was ambitiously caught in a process of bringing about a radical transformation aimed to alter the landscape and map of the history of the Jewish people and the individual, creating a new people and a new man. Of all Hebrew poets in the 20th century Uri Zvi Grinberg was the most politically committed. His political passion and struggle were at the very foundation of his poetry, profoundly imbued with the sense of his mission, rejecting violently an aesthetic value, a dwelling essence, detached from ideological interest and the messiness of history. He was drawn towards radical Zionist politics: active Hebrew messianism and messianic Hebraism. He understood Zionism as a secular messianic movement, trying to turn it into a political ideology, and trying to propose not only a program for a new understanding of Jewish history but also new guiding principles for Zionist activity.

In this research, exploring the individual innovativeness levels of  high school teachers  is aimed.  The research is designed as a descriptive survey and the sample of the research included 320 teachers working in 19 high schools in  Şanlıurfa, Turkey.    To collect data, translated form of “Individual Innovativeness” scale which is developed by Hurt, Joseph and Cook (1977) was used . Data of the research were analysed using such  descriptive analysis as percentage, frequency, mean, standart deviation, t-test and one-way ANOVA. As a result of the study, the individual innovativeness category of the teachers was found as  the “early-majority”.   While the teachers’ opinions about their individual innovativeness showe no significant differences in terms of their genders, their opinions differed significantly according to  their ages and the high school type they work in. Accordingly, young teachers and teachers working in science high schools were found to have higher individual innovation scores than older teachers and teachers working in Anatolian and vocational high schools. Accordingly, in order to make the teachers more innovative, it’s a must to abolish bureaucratic, organizatioanal and individual impediments; to encourage teachers to take risks.Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.
