AbstractAccident is a problem that not finish yet at the road. This fact can be evidence by the increasing of number victim’s accident at the road. Although number of accidents are decrease every years but the number of victims are increased. One type of vehicle in the road is public transportation that can accommodate many people. That’s way public transportation can make many victims if an accident. One type of public transportation in Semarang is Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Driver error is a factor for increased number of accident, vigilance extent for driver error has an influence with accident in the road. If the driver has a low level of vigilance can make driver not focused on driving. Level of vigilance can be measured by software Psychomotor Vigilance Test (PVT). Factors that can make vigilance level for driver decreased are quality of sleep and distraction. Quality of sleep can measured by   Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Then Distraction for driver can be measured by Susceptibility to Driver Distraction Questionnaire (SDDQ). Both of these factors will be linked to the level of vigilance using linear regression. The results showed that the level of inattention is affected by the quality of the driver's sleep before work, after work while the level of vigilance is affected distraction.

On February 1, 2004, a 12.9-km (8-mi) bus rapid transit (BRT) line began revenue operation in Jakarta, Indonesia. The BRT line has incorporated most of the characteristics of BRT systems. The line was implemented in only 9 months at a cost of less than US$1 million/km ($1.6 million/mi). Two additional lines are scheduled to begin operation in 2005 and triple the size of the BRT. While design shortcomings for the road surface and terminals have impaired performance of the system, public reaction has been positive. Travel time over the whole corridor has been reduced by 59 min at peak hour. Average ridership is about 49,000/day at a flat fare of 30 cents. Furthermore, 20% of BRT riders have switched from private motorized modes, and private bus operators have been supportive of expanding Jakarta's BRT. Immediate improvements are needed in the areas of fiscal handling of revenues and reconfiguring of other bus routes. The TransJakarta BRT is reducing transport emissions for Jakarta and providing an alternative to congested streets. The BRT provides a tangible vision for an effective, viable, and sustainable public transportation system in Jakarta and elsewhere.

Transit stations are generally well known as nodes of spaces where percentage of people walking are relatively high. The issue is do more planning is actually given to create walkability. Creating walking led transit stations involves planning of walking distance, providing facilities like pathways, toilets, seating and lighting. On the other hand, creating walking led transit station for women uncover a new epitome. Walking becomes one of the most important forms of mobility for women in developing countries nowadays. Encouraging women to use public transportation is not just about another effort to promote the use of public transportation but also another great endeavour to reduce numbers of traffic on the road. This also means, creating an effort to control accidents rate, reducing carbon emission, improving health and eventually, developing the quality of life. Hence, in this paper, we sought first to find out the factors that motivate women to walk at transit stations in Malaysia. A questionnaire survey with 562 female user of Light Railway Transit (LRT) was conducted at LRT stations along Kelana Jaya Line. Both built and non-built environment characteristics, particularly distance, safety and facilities were found as factors that are consistently associated with women walkability. With these findings, the paper highlights the criteria  which are needed to create and make betterment of transit stations not just for women but also for walkability in general.

ABSTRACTThe Government of Semarang have sought to develop a mass transportation system using theconcept of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Mangkang‐Penggaron corridor. In order to effectivelyfacilitate the movement of city dwellers, the BRT system required the provision of functioningshelters along the corridor. There is a need to optimize the function of the shelters including theintegration to other modes of transportation and to the activities of the Central Business District(CBD), ensuring optimum performance of the whole BRT system. This study determined andevaluated the quality of BRT shelter services in Semarang based on user perception. The studyemployed analysis regarding the fulfillment of criteria for quality of services including waitingtime, convenience, service reliability, distance, and BRT shelter clerk services. The analysisprocesses concluded that the current BRT shelter services were in fact less than ideal. The studyfound lack of maintenance and the need for improvement of services at rush hour. Keywords: evaluation, quality of services, and bus shelter

Jakarta is one of the most congested cities in the world due to a plethora of motor vehicles used in the city. One of the government actions to address the issue is by implementing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as an alternative public transportation mode. However, according to the convenience walking distance standard, the BRT coverage the inhabitant to choose motor vehicle rather than walking. This paper purposes Bike-Sharing as the smart transportation mode to overcome such issue and predict the three potential places to establish sharing-bike stations according to the convenience walking distance standard. In this paper the walking distance is classified into 100 mater range (300 meter, 400 meter and 500 meter) projected using the euclidean distance principle. As the result for 300 meter standard, there are 809 potential bike-sharing stations consist of 164 main stations and 645 feeder stations, while the 400 meter standard needs 541 potential stations with 140 stations serve the BRT station directly and 401 stations as the feeder. Furthemore, with 500 meter standard, 359 stations consist of 131 main stations and 228 feeder stations is needed.

Sharing bus rapid transit (BRT) exclusive lanes with conventional buses is being considered to solve the problem of low utilization rate of BRT-exclusive lanes. However, the quantitative conditions and threshold that determine when to share need to be study. This paper took the common section of BRT and conventional bus lines as its research object. Practical investigation was conducted to analyze shared characteristics from multiple perspectives and explore influencing factors and mechanisms for sharing implementation. Based on the survey results, analytical models were established to quantify the influencing factors from three perspectives of road section, intersection, and bus stop. We selected departure volume of conventional buses as a threshold index and then summarized the constraints and the calculation process of sharing threshold. Finally, numerical examples of different scenarios were used to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the method. The operation efficiency of the road section on exclusive lanes was the constraint on the lower limit of the shared threshold, while the upper limit was constrained by queuing probability or bus operation time under different intersections and stop spacing, which can provide reference for the shared setting of exclusive bus lanes.

This paper assesses the operational data of a public transportation system, using the Bus Rapid Transit in Lagos State as a case study. Demographic data was collected through the administration of questionnaires to the commuters; this was carried out to observe variations in the population of the commuters from different perspectives. Some other categories of data were collected which include boarding and alighting, headway, arrival rate of commuters, waiting time of commuters and travel time data. These data were presented and analysed with MS Excel and Minitab statistical softwares. Results from the boarding and alighting data showed bus stops with high flux of commuters, these were at Ojota, Ketu, Mile 12, Costain, CMS and TBS. Probability distribution charts were prepared to analyze the remaining sets of data. This was carried out to study the distribution and consistency of the data. Coefficients of variation for the data were also estimated to study the variability of the data. From the study, the data followed normal distribution and they were consistent such that they can be used for further analysis of the system. It can be concluded that the distribution depicts the real situation at the study location. Thus, bus stops with high density of commuters should be provided with more buses so as to reduce the waiting time of commuters.

Jambi Provincial Government tries to overcome congestion by providing public transportation, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, known as BRT Trans Siginjai Jambi. Public transportation Trans Siginjai Jambi has been operating for two years and has 11 BRT Stations. Placement of the transit node is one of the determinants of the role of bus stations in the surrounding area. The diversity of land-use and facilities close to the transit area can reduce travel time, so it is necessary to map the land-use that will determine the physical characteristics of the area around the BRT Station. This study discusses the characteristics of the area around the BRT Station using quantitative methods. Quantitative methods are used to determine the characteristics of BRT Station based on the variables of the proportion of land use in the area around the BRT Station. The land-use variable is obtained from the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) theory. The study produced three characteristics of BRT Station, namely City Station, Neighborhood Station, and Special Activity Station.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is one of the alternative public transportations in urban areas, which has begun to be implemented in some cities of Indonesia. By finding out the effectiveness of BRT as a mass transportation system, it is necessary to study the expectations of users and non-users of the Trans Jateng Purwokerto-Purbalingga BRT regarding the perceived social, economic, and environmental impacts. This study uses the text Clustering method to group public opinion based on similarities so that it can be analyzed further for policymaking. As a result, the majority of the community gave positive expectations of BRT implementation’s perceived social, economic, and environmental benefits. On the other hand, public opinion on the presence of BRT is not always positive and has a significant impact. Improvements are needed in several aspects that are considered not to meet public expectations to maximize the function of BRT as a substitute for public transportation for private vehicles.
