<p>Soils of the southern Guinea savanna zone of Nigeria are inherently infertile due to shortened fallow period and the continuous use of inorganic fertilizer which depletes the soil of micronutrients such as zinc over time. A field trial was carried out at the Teaching and Research Farm of the University of Ilorin, Nigeria during the 2016 and 2017 cropping seasons to evaluate the effect of zinc and NPK fertilizer on the growth, yield and zinc concentration of seeds of sesame. The experiment was laid out as a factorial fitted into a randomized complete block design (RCBD), replicated thrice. The treatment consisted of four levels of ZnSO<sub>4</sub> (0, 5, 10 and 15 kg ha<sup>-1</sup>) and four levels of NPK 15:15:15 (0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha<sup>-1</sup>). Data collected were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and means were separated using new Duncan multiple range test at 5 % level of probability. Results obtained showed significant effects of Zn and NPK rates on plant height, number of leaves, yield per plot and yield per hectare. The application of 15 kg ha<sup>-1</sup> Zn and 300 kg ha<sup>-1</sup> (15:15:15) NPK resulted in high yield and high zinc content of seeds.</p>

AbstractA field experiment was carried out in Tahtay Koraro district of Northwestern zone of Tigray from October 2017 to April 2018, to assess the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizer on growth, yield and yield components of onion. The experiment consisted of four levels of FYM (Farmyard manure) as 0, 10, 20 and 30 t ha−1 and four levels of inorganic N as 0, 34.5, 69 and 103.5 kg ha−1 factorially arranged in RCB design with three replications. Analysis of variance revealed that the main effect of N, FYM as well as their interactions significantly (P < 0.05) influenced days to maturity, plant height, leaf number, leaf diameter, bulb diameter, neck diameter, average bulb weight, above ground dry biomass, marketable bulb yield and total bulb yield of onion. Similarly, main effects of N and FYM significantly (P < 0.05) affected leaf length, bulb length, unmarketable bulb yield and harvest index. The highest marketable bulb yield of 35.93 t ha−1 and 34.72 t ha−1 were obtained at combinations of 103.5 kg N ha−1 + 30 t FYM ha−1 and 103.5 kg N ha−1 + 20 t FYM ha−1 respectively. However, the lowest marketable bulb yield of 13.88 t ha−1 was obtained from the unfertilized plot. Moreover, the highest marginal rate of return was obtained at combined application of 103.5 kg N ha−1 and 10 t FYM ha−1 and thus can be recommended for onion production in the study area.

A field experiment was conducted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur during 2010-2011 to determine the effects and economic performance of urea super granule (USG) and prilled urea (PU) in terms of growth and yield of broccoli and to find out the optimum and economic doses of USG and PU for broccoli in Shallow Red-Brown Terrace Soil under Madhupur Tract. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications having 17 treatment combinations constituted with different levels of urea super granule (USG) and prilled urea (PU). Result showed that yield of broccoli increased significantly with increasing rate of USG and PU. The treatments containing 160 kg N from USG and 180 kg N from PU exhibited the best performance on yield and yield contributing characters of broccoli having the head yield of 12.9 and 10.6 ton ha-1, respectively. All the yield contributing characters and the economic profitability were favorably correlated with these high yield performing treatments. The performance of USG in terms of growth, yield and yield attributes, head quality (compactness coefficient) and economic profitability was found significantly higher as compared to that of PU. Therefore, USG @ 160 kg N ha-1 and PU @ 180 kg N ha-1 alongwith other recommended fertilizerscould be suggested for broccoli production in terms of yield and economics. Extending the planting area to a less-fertile soil, such as Ultisols, become inevitable choice to increase the national chili pepper production in Indonesia as this types of soil is the largest part of dry land of Indonesia, about 29.7% or around 51 million ha.  However, efforts to increase its productivity by providing sufficient fertilizers application is most frequently inefficient because in the conventional fertilizer applications, broadcasted fertilizer on the soil bed, are not readily available for the plant as their solubility is limited under the plastic mulch and still in the form of granular until the end of planting season.  Fertigation, therefore, maybe the answer for this problem.  The objective of this study was to determine the best NPK fertigation method on four chili pepper hybrids.  The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replication, and the treatments were arranged in a split plot design.  As the main plots were NPK fertigation intensity, i.e. 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% fertigation with the remnant fertilizers were circularly broadcasted surrounding the plant.  As the subplots were chili pepper hybrids, i.e. ‘Maxima’, H39, H14, and ‘UNIB CHR17’.  The results showed that there was no interaction effect of fertigation intensity indicated that all hybrid genotypes showed similar pattern of responses.  The H39 hybrid had better vegetative growth compared to other hybrids in term of plant height, dichotomous height, stem diameter, number of branches, plant fresh-weight.  Whereas the hybrid cultivar ‘Maxima’ showed the highest yield followed by H14 and cultivar ‘UNIB CHR17’.  The 100% fertigation was the best method of NPK fertilizer application for chili pepper in Ultisols.keywowrd: fertigation, chili pepper, fertilizer application, acidic soil

The effect of lime and fertilizer application, as the management of soil acidity, on the growth and yield of rice cv. BRRI dhan50 was investigated during Aman rice season at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. The experiment was consisted of two factors namely lime and fertilizer. There were four levels of lime (0, 0.50, 1.00, and 1.50 t ha–1 of CaCO3.MgCO3) and three levels of fertilizers (control, FYM @ 10 t ha–1, and chemical fertilizer @ 100-30-42-4-3-0.4 kg ha–1 of N-P-K-Ca-S-Zn). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications where the unit plot size was 4.0 m x 2.5 m. Growth parameters, yield components and yield of BRRIdhan 50 rice increased with increasing lime rate in association of fertilizer in acidic soil. The highest grain yield (2.90 t ha–1) was recorded from the application of 1.50 t ha–1 lime and the lowest (2.06 t ha–1) was from control (0t ha–1), irrespective of fertilizer. On the other hand, the best effect of fertilizers on grain yield (3.08 t ha–1) was found with the application of FYM @ 10 t ha–1 and the lowest yield (1.59 t ha–1) was in control. The treatment combination of lime 1.50 t ha–1 and FYM (@ 10 t ha–1 produced the highest grain yield (3.60 t ha–1), which was followed by treatment combination of lime 1.50 t ha–1 and chemical fertilizer @ 100-30-42-4-3-0.4 kg ha–1 of N-P-K-Ca-S-Zn (3.28 t ha–1). Additionally, application of lime and FYM improved the soil fertility and properties of acidic soil for crop production by increasing the pH, organic matter and availability of some essential nutrients. It is not unreasonable to state that, even before the introduction of organic agriculture, African local farmers have numerous of undocumented environment-friendly, nature-inclined indigenous techniques for boosting soil fertility and enhancing crop yield. However, despite the versatility of indigenous knowledge, setback is always experienced from western science, which tags such knowledge as being non-scientific and not worthy of scholarly engagements. A field experiment was carried out in the year 2013, at the Teaching and Research Farms, LadokeAkintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, to assess the soil fertility and yield promoting potentials of some indigenous plant species’ botanicals used as pre-planting treatments on different maize varieties. It was a 3 by 5 factorial experiment. The treatments introduced were: Three (3) maize varieties (V1 = ACR-DMR-SR-Y, V2 = Local EM-W and V3 = Suwan Solo Yellow and five (5) other treatments (comprising pre-sowing botanical treatments of: Kigeliaafricana only, Glyphea brevis only, combination of Kigeliaafricana and Glyphea brevis only, NPK fertilizer application (as a reference) and the control (treated with ordinary water only). The trial was laid out in Split Plot in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), replicated three times. Data were collected on growth and yield parameters, and the data collected were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Means were compared using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). All the botanical treatments significantly influenced germination, growth, yield and nutrient uptakes of maize, compared to the control. Either of the botanicals tested (with ordinary basal manure application of the pre-existing plant residues on the field), competed effectively with NPK fertilized plants. Hence, since maize responded better to sole treatments of either Kigeliaafricana or Glyphea brevis extracts, irrespective of varieties than the combined treatment of the two botanicals, any of the maize varieties is therefore recommended as being suitably compatible with either of the sole botanical treatments, in the study area. Thus, this research is reasonable, particularly in the aspects of fertilizer economy, environment-friendliness, organic farming and more profitable crop production in the tropics, where soils are continuously cropped and marginal.

Experiments on the influence of NPK fertilizers and citronella pesticides nano on the growth and yield of red chili (Capsimum annuum L.) were carried out on dry land in Korong Pasar Baru village, Nansabaris District, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra from February - June 2020. The research objective was to determine the interaction of NPK fertilizer and citronella pesticide on growth, yield and disease attack rates in red chilies. The experiment used a randomized block design (RBD) with two factors. The first factor was the dosage of NPK fertilizer consisting of 3 levels, namely: 0 kg/ha, 100 kg/ha, and 150 kg/ha. The second  factor is the concentration of citronella pesticide nano, namely: 0 ml/L, 3 ml/L, 6 ml/L and 9 ml/L. Based on the results of the experiment, it can be concluded that NPK fertilizers and citronella pesticides can increase the growth and yield of chili plants and suppress curly disease 83.4%.

Tidal acid land is a potential land for cassava development. However, the development of cassava in tidal land faces many obstacles, one of which is the low availability of nutrients. This study aimed to determine the effect of NPK fertilizer in increasing the growth and yield of cassava in tidal land. The experiment consisted of two factors, the first factor was two varieties of cassava and the second factor was four levels of NPK fertilizer doses. The experiment was applied in a strip plot design with variety as the horizontal factor and the level of NPK fertilizer as the vertical factor and repeated three times. The growth parameters observed consisted of plant height, stem diameter, plant biomass weight, number of large tubers, number of small tubers, large tuber length, length of small tuber, the diameter of large tuber, the diameter of small tuber, the total number of tubers, the weight of large tuber, the weight of tuber small, and total tuber weight. The results showed that fertilizer application was effective in increasing vegetative growth and yield of cassava but increasing the dose of fertilizer was not effective in increasing the growth and yield of cassava. Differences in varieties generally did not show differences in vegetative growth and some yield components but still showed different results in the components of tuber length and total tuber weight.

<p>ABSTRAK</p><p>Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari pupukkandang dan NPK terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi asiatikosida.Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Gunung Putri, Cipanas,Kabupaten Cianjur mulai dari bulan Mei 2009 sampai dengan Januari2010. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak kelompokdengan dua faktor dan diulang 3 kali. Faktor A tanpa , 0,25, 0,50, 0,75 dan1,00 dosis rekomnedasi NPK (kg/ha). Faktor B tanpa, dan 30 t pupukkandang/ha. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi pupuk NPK1,00 rekomendasi dan pupuk kandang sebanyak 30 t/ha meningkatkanpertumbuhan dan produksi asiotikosida secara signifikan (5,12 g/m 2 ).Produksi asiatikosida tersebut tidak berbeda nyata dengan 0,5 dan 0,75dosis rekomendasi NPK/ha tanpa menggunakan pupuk kandang dan 0,5dosis rekomendasi NPK/ha + pupuk kandang 30 t/ha dan memilikikandungan asiatikosida (standar &gt;MMI =0,90). Pemupukan maksimum 0,5dosis rekomendasi NPK/ha atau pupuk kandang meningkatkan produksiasiatikosida, akan tetapi pemberian pupuk kandang saja tidak mempe-ngaruhi kandungan asiatikosida. Interaksi antara pupuk NPK dan pupukkandang secara umum meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil asiatikosida.Keuntungan tertinggi 79,82 and 30,81% (B/C ratio 0,17 dan 0,14)didapatkan dari kombinasi 1,00 dan 0,75 dosis rekomendasi NPK/ha +pupuk kandang sebanyak 30 t/ha.</p><p>Kata kunci : Asiatikosida, pegagan, pupuk NPK, pupuk kandang, datarantinggi</p><p>ABSTRACT</p><p>Combination NPK Fertilizer and Manure Application toincrease growth and Asiaticoside Production of IndianPennyworth</p><p>The aim of the research was to identify the effect of combination ofcow manure and NPK fertilizer application on the growth and asiaticosideproduction of Indian Pennyworth (Centella asiatica L. Urban) of BoyolaliCASI 016 accession. The research was conducted from May 2009 untilJanuary 2010, at The Institute of Plant Medicine and Aromatic ResearchStation of Indonesian Medicinal and Aromatic Research Institute inGunung Putri, Cipanas, Cianjur Residence. The research used randomizedcomplete block design with two factors. The A factor were without NPK,0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 NPK recommendation dosage/ha. The NPKrecommendation dosage is 135 kg N/ha, 60 kg P 2 O 5 /ha and 132 kgK 2 O/ha. The B factors were without cow manure and 30 t cow manure/ha,with 3 replicates. Research result showed that combination of 1.00 NPKrecommendation dosage/ha and 30 t/ha cow manure significantly increasedgrowth and asiaticoside production (5.12 g/m 2 ). This asiaticosideproduction was not different with 0.50 and 0.75 recommendation NPKdosage/ha without cow manure, and 0.50 NPK recommendation dosage/ha+ 30 t cow manure/ha, and have high asiaticoside content (&gt;MMI standard= 0.90). NPK fertilizer (maximum at 0.50 recommen-dation NPKdosage/ha) or cow manure increased growth and asiaticoside production,but cow manure did not affect asiaticoside content. Interaction betweenNPK and cow manure generally increased growth and yield ofasiaticoside. An experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, from October 2017 to February 2018. The experiment consisted of two factors, Factor A: Four levels of organic manures, viz. M0 = Control; M1 = Cowdung (35 t ha-1), M2 = Mustard oil cake (3.5 t ha-1) and M3 = Vermicompost. Factor B: Three application times, viz. T1 = 15 days before transplanting, T2 = Application at the time of transplanting and T3 = 15 days after transplanting. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. In the case of organic manure, the highest yield (38.70 t/ha) was found from M2 treatment, whereas the lowest yield (19.71t/ha) was recorded from M0 treatment. In the case of application time, the highest yield (31.83t/ha) was found from T1 treatment, whereas the lowest yield (28.10 t/ha) was recorded from T3   treatment. Due to combined effect maximum yield (38.704 t/ha) with net return (4,74,421tk) and BCR (2.20) was obtained from M2T1 treatment combination while the lowest yield (17.90 t/ha) with the lowest income (44,211 tk) and BCR (1.17) from M0T3 treatment combination. So, the economic analysis revealed that the M2T1 treatment combination appeared to be best for achieving the higher growth, yield and economic benefit of cauliflower.

Field experiment was conducted at National Cereals Research Institute (NCRI) Uyo-Out station in 2015 and 2016 cropping seasons. The aim  was  to evaluate the yields of seven maize varieties in humid rainforest of Uyo, Southeastern Nigeria in view of recommending high yield varieties. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design, replicated three times. The treatments were seven maize varieties viz- : Uwep (local). FARZ 32, Oba super 2, Oba 98 and suwan-I-SR, Quality protein maize (QPM) and extra-early. Growth and yield data were subjected to analysis of variance. Significant mean were compared using least significant difference at p<0.05. The result showed significant difference(p<0.05) plant height. FAR 32 was the tallest at 9WAP (159.37 and 163.33 cm in 2015 and 2016 cropping seasons, respectively) The shortest variety, 121.12 and 122.61 cm, respectively at 9WAP was recorded in QPM. The weight of grains varied significantly different. FARZ 32 had the heaviest 100 grain weight, 42.60 g and 41.30 g in 2015 and 2016, respectively. The least weight of 100 seeds 31.09 g and 32.99 g, respectively was recorded from Extra Early maize. Comparing the maize grain yield, the result indicated significant difference (p<0.05) in both cropping seasons. FARZ 32 had the highest grain yield, 4.37 and 4.30 tonnes per hectare in 2015 and 2016 in both cropping seasons. Oba super 2 had 4.30 and 4.20 tonnes per hectare in 2015 and 2016. The local cultivar Uweb had 2.49 and 2.59 tonnes per hectare grain yield in both years. The least grain yield, 2.32 and 2.45 tonnes per hectare, respectively was from Extra early maize. Oba, Farz -32, Oba super 2 and Oba 98 were recommended to farmers in the study area.
