Extending the planting area to a less-fertile soil, such as Ultisols, become inevitable choice to increase the national chili pepper production in Indonesia as this types of soil is the largest part of dry land of Indonesia, about 29.7% or around 51 million ha.  However, efforts to increase its productivity by providing sufficient fertilizers application is most frequently inefficient because in the conventional fertilizer applications, broadcasted fertilizer on the soil bed, are not readily available for the plant as their solubility is limited under the plastic mulch and still in the form of granular until the end of planting season.  Fertigation, therefore, maybe the answer for this problem.  The objective of this study was to determine the best NPK fertigation method on four chili pepper hybrids.  The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replication, and the treatments were arranged in a split plot design.  As the main plots were NPK fertigation intensity, i.e. 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% fertigation with the remnant fertilizers were circularly broadcasted surrounding the plant.  As the subplots were chili pepper hybrids, i.e. ‘Maxima’, H39, H14, and ‘UNIB CHR17’.  The results showed that there was no interaction effect of fertigation intensity indicated that all hybrid genotypes showed similar pattern of responses.  The H39 hybrid had better vegetative growth compared to other hybrids in term of plant height, dichotomous height, stem diameter, number of branches, plant fresh-weight.  Whereas the hybrid cultivar ‘Maxima’ showed the highest yield followed by H14 and cultivar ‘UNIB CHR17’.  The 100% fertigation was the best method of NPK fertilizer application for chili pepper in Ultisols.keywowrd: fertigation, chili pepper, fertilizer application, acidic soil

Different colored plastic mulches can influence tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) growth and yield. A study was carried out to compare the effects of different colored plastic mulches and bare ground on growth and yield of tomato. Ten treatments, namely, control (bare ground), and plastic mulches (black smooth, red, black embossed, blue, olive, yellow, clear, white, and reflective) were replicated four times in a randomized complete-block design. Tomato variety `Sunstart' seeds were planted in flats filled with Jiffy Mix in a greenhouse in late Apr. 2004 and seedlings transplanted in early June 2004. The seedlings planted in white and reflective plastic mulches were taller than seedlings planted in black smooth, black embossed, clear, blue, red, and olive mulches by 24 July 2004. Weeds were growing underneath clear, yellow, and red plastic mulches, and squash bugs were observed in yellow plastic mulch treatment on 2 July. Cumulative marketable tomato yield was highest in plants grown in reflective and white plastic mulches, and lowest in plants grown in yellow plastic mulch. Marketable fruits from plants grown in reflective and white mulches were larger than fruits from other treatments. In comparison with black embossed plastic mulch, plants grown in reflective and white plastic mulches had 2 and 1.2 tons/acre higher marketable yields, respectively, than plants grown in black embossed plastic mulch.

<p>Soils of the southern Guinea savanna zone of Nigeria are inherently infertile due to shortened fallow period and the continuous use of inorganic fertilizer which depletes the soil of micronutrients such as zinc over time. A field trial was carried out at the Teaching and Research Farm of the University of Ilorin, Nigeria during the 2016 and 2017 cropping seasons to evaluate the effect of zinc and NPK fertilizer on the growth, yield and zinc concentration of seeds of sesame. The experiment was laid out as a factorial fitted into a randomized complete block design (RCBD), replicated thrice. The treatment consisted of four levels of ZnSO4 (0, 5, 10 and 15 kg ha-1) and four levels of NPK 15:15:15 (0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1). Data collected were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and means were separated using new Duncan multiple range test at 5 % level of probability. Results obtained showed significant effects of Zn and NPK rates on plant height, number of leaves, yield per plot and yield per hectare. The application of 15 kg ha-1 Zn and 300 kg ha-1 (15:15:15) NPK resulted in high yield and high zinc content of seeds.</p>

Shallots is one of the important commodities in Indonesia. Demand for these commodities always increases along with population growth. To fulfill this demand, the production of shallots must always be increased. One way to increase the production of shallots is by fertilizing. This study aims to determine the dosage of NPK fertilizer which gives the best results for the growth and yield of shallots. The study was carried out in Sentani District, Papua Province, from November 2016 until March 2017.The study used the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three treatments NPK Phonska fertilization (NPK 15-15-15 composition) and four repplication. NPK fertilizer used were: 1) NPK 300 kg/ha, 2) 250 kg/ha, and 3) 200 kg/ha. The meterials used were shaloot bulbs Keta Monca cultivar. The plot size was 1 x 5 m, with a spacing of 15 x 15 cm. NPK fertilizer was given at the age of 14 and 30 days after planting respectively with the dose of ½. The variables observed were plant height, leaf number, bulbs number per sample, diameter of bulbs, dry weight bulb per hectare The results showed that the treatment of NPK fertilizer dosage did not give a significant effect on almost all observation variables except on the dry weight of eskip bulb, where the treatment dose of 200 kg/ha NPK fertilizer gave the highest yield compared to other treatments. When observed from the growth components and production components, the dose of NPK fertilizer 200 kg/ha is the most consistent to provide better growth and yield.

[PRODUCTIVITY AND FRUIT QUALITY OF CANTALOUPE AT DIFFERENT RATES OF FRUIT THINNING AND NPK FERTILIZER APPLICATION]. Productivity and fruit quality of cantaloupe depend on the availability of nutrients and the number of fruits maintained. The aim of this study was to compare the productivity and fruit quality of cantaloupe at different rates of fruit thinning and NPK fertilizer application. The research was conducted in August-October 2020 on street Kapuas V, Lingkar Barat Village, Gading Cempaka District, Bengkulu city. A field experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications for alloting two factorial treatments structure, namely rates of fruit thinning (no fruit thinning, thinned to one fruit /plant, thinned to two fruits/plant, and thinned to three fruits/plant) and rates of NPK fertilizer application (400, 600, and 800 kg/ha) on rhe experimental plots. The results showed that fruit thinnings resulted no increament in crop productivity, but the fruit quality was improved as fewer number of fruits were retained on each plant. The NPK fertilizer at 400, 600, and 800 kg/ha were not able to increase the productivity of cantaloupe  and the quality of the  produced fruit when  the application were made only at planting and 23 days after planting.

Spent bleaching earth (SBE) is by-product of cooking oil processing industry of crude palm oil (CPO). Palm oil industry is growing every year, followed by population growth and consumption of cooking oil so that the greater volume of waste generates SBE. An innovation is needed to anticipate the problem of SBE waste in agricultural sector, dealing with a filler component in the production of NPK fertilizer additives. This study aims to determine proline response, growth and yield of the maize to fertilization NPK with SBE-based filler. The experiments used Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with the treatments of NPK filler (15:15:15) consisting of BC (brown clay), SBE and DBE (deoiled bleaching earth) at a dose of 6 g polybag-1. The results showed that the use of SBE gave the same effect on plant height, leaf number, stem diameter and 100-seed weight, but the use of SBE could increase 61.15% of proline activity. SBE can substitute filler on the additional materials of NPK fertilizer.
