The author investigates how James Joyce stylizes the space in his novel Ulysses for drama. For this purpose he carries out a comparative analysis of some episodes in this book. This analysis leads to the conclusion that Joyce transposes some dramatic genres and specifically dramatic writing techniques, especially associated with August Strindberg. Kozłowski emphasizes the dramatic character of some motifs that create spatial conditions in Joyce’s novel. Furthermore, he compares these motifs with the literary works of the greatest modern dramatists.

In literary works, truth and beauty have been expressed in a varied number of ways by authors of all genres. Rabindranath Tagore and John Keats, two prominent writers from two languages have linked beauty and truth in philosophical manners in many of their writings. Beauty and truth are not separate entities; they flow from the same spring. Tagore views beauty as linked to eternal characteristics of nature and truth is associated with it. Keats sees beauty from spiritual perspective and according to him, realization of truth leads to the fulfillment of beauty. Readers of Tagore and Keats get eye-opening insights from the viewpoints that are followed by their expressions in regarding the tenets of truth and beauty. Truth and beauty fulfill each other in their harmonious existence in the universe. The authors make us realize that beauty does not emanate merely from sensual pleasure; it is an abstract idea, a spiritual understanding that originates from rhythmic attachment with truth. This article compares and contrasts philosophies of truth and beauty from the writings of Tagore and Keats. In doing so, the paper investigates the literary works of the two writers and explores how they have philosophized truth and beauty in the domain of human thought as well as in the realm of spiritual discipline.

Focusing on a comparative analysis of the translations in French of literary works from four Eastern European countries (Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Romania) during the communist period, this article examines the political stakes of the international circulation of literary texts. More precisely, it proposes a model for describing the different modalities of international circulation—referred to here as translation channels—based on the statistical analysis of a relevant set of variables. These channels allow us to present a gradation of the degree of politicization and institutionalization of the literary transfer, and to go well beyond an analysis in terms of the undifferentiated flow of imported books or the simple opposition of authorized vs. unauthorized translations or submissive vs. dissenting writers.

The article discusses the problems of genre problems presented in the light of modern comparative studies. On the example of romanticism and its popular genres, such as verse tale, digressive poem, romantic drama and a variety of odd types of poetic works, it has been demonstrated that comparative analysis can be very useful in describing the formal aspect of literary works and the interaction between genres.

The story of Galimjan Ibragimov “People” in different eras was evaluated by literary scholars from various points of view. From the middle of 1920s-1930s - vulgar-sociological treatments formed a basis to exclude the story from the Tatar literature history for many years. After the long-term period of concealment, in 1950s-1970s excessively naturalistic descriptions, not very sustained ideological and art orientation of the story, existence of passive humanity in it and misunderstanding of the principles of socialist realism became an object of criticism. Different views and estimates appear during the perestroika years, uncensored chaos in literature, art when all “forbidden” works began to be published, naturally causing a wide response of experts. Modern studies convince that the story of G. Ibragimov has not lost its relevance to this day, both from the standpoint of historical and literary, and from a purely aesthetic one. The comparative analysis of literary works of different eras about hunger made it possible to feel the influence of time on aesthetic interpretations: from vulgar sociologism, through the Procrustean bed of socialist realism and naturalism to the objective characteristics of pieces of art in the works of scholars of the late XX - early XXI centuries.

This paper aims to make a comparative analysis of contemporary German and Thai children’s literature in terms of children’s worlds. The result of the study shows that a number of German children’s literary works present children as the “partners of adults.” This results from a perspective towards German children that they are people who have the same rights as an adult. In other words, they respect the children. Adults allow children to express their opinions freely or to make decisions on their own. By contrast, Thai children are normally socialized to differ from adults. The reason lies in the belief that a child is someone who is a “subordinate.” Children are expected to pay respect to adults and obey to their orders, responds to the expectations for children in the context of Thai society and culture.

The article reveals the features of works by well-known English writers James Joyce and John Galsworthy , the steps of their creative career and their contribution to the English literature. The article discusses the talent of describing human character of these writers in their works. Ethical position of John Galsworthy in literary system is different from James Joyce’s. His соnception of humanity and life is also variable, as Galsworthy approached in another position for character notion. Thus the similarity can be observed in the main heroes of novels of Joyce and Galsworthy.

How might the idea of recognition offer a fresh slant on contemporary women’s writing? In this essay, we bring theories of recognition into dialogue with two literary works: Chris Kraus’s widely reviewed memoir I Love Dick and The Other Woman by the well-regarded Swedish novelist Therese Bohman. Our analysis focuses on recognition within the texts as well as its relevance to relations between texts and readers. We seek to clarify how attitudes to heterosexual love, feminism and same-sex identification are entangled and the broader implications of such entanglements. We are interested in how the protagonists engage the world as readers and the role of literature in shaping their identifications and attachments. Yet, a comparative analysis can also bring to light how a feminist habitus is predicated on class and education, suggesting that these two texts may invite rather different experiences of recognition.

The article looks at visions - the key problem in Oskar Kokoschka - through the thematic of the conflict of the sexes in order to see the corelation between the artist's figurative and literary works. Using comparative analysis of selected textual and visual examples, the author establishes that Oskar Kokoschka is a multimedial artist. The arts of words and of colours are primarily connected in his dramatic stagings of whole artistic works. His works can also be perceived as autonomous, separate, self-sufficient, specific expressions of the artist's inner perception.

The results of a comparative analysis of translated Russian texts of literary works with their original in the Kabardino-Circassian language are presented. Special attention is paid to the problems of translating interjections from one language into another. It is proved that the translator must have knowledge of the grammatical structure of the translated material and take into account the slightest semantic shades of words. Our observations revealed the features of borrowing interjections from the Russian language into Kabardian speech, which, assimilating, become part of linguistic culture. The novelty of the work is seen in the fact that in Kabardino-Circassian linguistics there are no scientific works devoted to the problems of translation of interjections. All available publications concerning this subject are literary. The relevance of the work is due to the need to improve the system of approaches to the translation of interjection units, since they are not taken into account by translators in due measure. A phonetic-morphological classification of methods for translating interjections is proposed in the article. It is proved that for an adequate and accessible translation of interjections as such, knowledge from the fields of phonetics, morphology, and semantics is most important.
