Abstract People and communities living geographically far from each other and originating from culturally different environments establish contact with each other by means of the sudden spread of information and communication technologies. Knowledge of world languages no longer suffices for engaging in successful social interaction, it has to be accompanied by intercultural competence. Intercultural communication occurs when interlocutors belonging to different cultures understand each other. The translator’s work can be also understood as intercultural communication since in addition to translating linguistic material, the translator also transcodes the culture of the source language into the target language. (Inter)cultural competence is therefore one of the basic requirements for a translator. There is an ever-increasing emphasis on mediation between different cultures in translation, and according to new interpretations of translation this mediation represents the keystone of translation. The present study examines how elements of Hungarian culture are rendered in Serbian and German by analysing translations of Hungarian authors’ works into these two languages.

This paper explores the changes detected in the utilization of translation resources1 by trainee translators working with the Slovene–English language pair in Slovenia. To test the assumption that rapid advances in information and communication technologies have made a significant impact on translation practice, a study involving two generations of translation students in Ljubljana was designed to examine whether their practice of using translation aids has changed over a certain period of time. This population will soon have to compete with their professional counterparts; it is therefore crucial they are fully equipped not only with the necessary translation knowledge, but also that they are skilled in advanced translation aids, as this will cater for the demands of the modern translation market where an efficient use of translation resources appears to be vital for successful intercultural communication. The results of the study indicate some changes can be detected even within a short period of time.

This article deals with the possibilities of using selected activating methods and organizational forms of teaching in the context of the use of information and communication technologies. Activating methods are analysed from the theoretical point of view, especially with regard to problem solving, constructing new knowledge, acquiring communication and intercultural competence, motivation, cooperation and the development of the pupil's personality. It also describes their advantages and disadvantages or limits. Additionally, the article presents practical examples useful for lessons of Russian as a foreign language.

The relevance of the work is due to the global process of informatization, which is observed in any field of human activity, especially in education. Recently, new and non-standard information and communication technologies have been widely used in educational institutions. This phenomenon contributed to the intensive development of educational institutions, which made it possible to successfully solve many problems of the modern education system: various forms of educational materials, the availability of education, the use of new technologies and teaching methods, and many other problems. This article presents the theoretical foundations of the use of English-language TV channels for the formation of intercultural competence in English classes. This study examined methods for defining concepts and components of cross-cultural competence. Explains the peculiarities of using English-language TV channels in the context of an intercultural approach to teaching foreign languages.

The world turns out to be a small village due to globalization and communication technologies. In this new world, different cultures and communication means have interlaced and started to increasingly affect each other, leading communication and culture to transform into two organic structures that feed each other. The culture in which individuals socialize also determines these individual’s ways of communication. It is necessary to examine the communicational behaviors of the members of given societies to distinguish the differences between these cultures. The skills of different people who live in different cultures in enduring the information load would also be different. Today, it is possible to transfer any information via news media in an instant. This, as a result, increases the significance of new media in intercultural communication.

The article considers the system of principles for creating a modern textbook for adults as a basic linguodidactic tool in teaching Russian to foreigners at an advanced stage of training, with the focus of the educational process on the formation of intercultural competence. Russian language textbook for foreigners contains topics and situations of reality that are relevant to Russian linguoculture in their verbal embodiment in texts of different genres and styles of the modern Russian language. The author demonstrates that with a cognitive-communicative approach, the discursive base of the textbook on the Russian language for foreigners contains relevant topics and situations of reality in their verbal embodiment in texts of different genres and styles of the modern Russian language.; the linguistic concept of the textbook is based on the achievements of theoretical Russian studies; the methodological interpretation of the educational material reflects the understanding of the experience of teaching Russian to foreigners. The textbook serves as a basis for creative use both by the teacher in the educational process and by the students in their independent work, which plays a crucial role in learning. The author emphasizes the importance of the modern textbook as a means of improving the professional competence of the teacher. The author notes that the textbook takes into account the specifics of the forms and norms of modern communication, including the use of information and communication technologies. The textbook is based on clearly defined goals based on the internal motivation of students, focuses on the development and improvement of their communication skills with the active cooperation of the teacher and the student.

The aim of this paper was to examine the manner in which Lafarge, a multinational cement corporation, has gone about executing an IT-based strategy. The analysis was motivated by multiple concepts of strategy. Based on currently authorized company framework. The study was done to, evaluate the development process of the ICT-based growth plan for Lafarge cement and to analyse the issues encountered by Lafarge cement in integrating information and communication technologies as a strategic plan. A standardized questionnaire was used to collect the results. Descriptive figures were used to validate the data's results. The full text discovered that the application of ICT techniques was split down into many levels with numerous sections being allocated to separate divisions and departments. The key players in the development activities were the management who adopted the technologies, external experts and IT workers. There were several planks in the development process, e.g. restricted jobs of method. Because of this, it was not as successful for the lower levels of workers that the ICT approach tackled. It is advised that senior management reduce the amount of administration in the company to move more effectively. There is a need for senior and middle level management to be properly qualified in managing policy execution, and how to effectively deal with different cultures in the enterprise.
