Abstract Objectives Nausea and vomiting have psychological negative effects on some pregnant women during gestation. Different strategies have been used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, such as acupressure and psychological interventions. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of psychological counseling and acupressure based on couple therapy procedures on vomiting and nausea in pregnant women in Iran. Methods Two hundred and eight women were divided into four groups (n=52): 1) they did not any intervention (control group), 2) they received the psychological intervention, 3) they received acupressure intervention, and 4) they received a combination of psychological + acupressure interventions. To investigate the effects of interventions on nausea and vomiting, the Rhodes index of nausea, vomiting and retching were used. The counseling period has lasted for 4 weeks. The pressure intervention on the site was conducted in clockwise form for 1 min and anticlockwise form for another 1 min. Results Groups did not have a significant difference for abortion and income (p>0.05). The effects of counseling, and acupressure interventions on severity and period of vomiting and nausea were not significant (p>0.05), but the intervention based on counseling and acupressure decreased severity of vomiting and nausea (p<0.05). Conclusions The intervention based on counseling and acupressure could not reduce nausea and vomiting during the gestation, but the intervention based on a combination of both decreased nausea and vomiting. It can be suggested to apply an intervention based on a combination of counseling and acupressure in short-time period for decreasing nausea and vomiting in women during pregnancy.

Introduction & Objective: Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders that more than 85% of pregnant women experience. However, controlling and treating this complication is still one of the most important issues in antenatal care. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ear acupressure at Shen Men point on relieving nausea, vomiting and retching during pregnancy. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 100 pregnant women with a gestational age of less than 16 weeks attending the health clinics of Zabol city during 2019-2020 were studied in two control and intervention groups (n = 50 in each group). The samples in the intervention group were trained to apply pressure on their ears’ Shen Men point with the thumb for three minutes three times a day (morning, noon, and night), for a duration of one month. At the end of second and fourth weeks, the data were collected using the Rhodes index form and then, were analyzed by SPSS software version 22. Results: According to the results, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of age, gestational age, occupation and education. The difference in the mean scores of nausea, vomiting and retching was not statistically significant between the control and intervention groups before the study. But four weeks after the study, a significant difference was observed in the mean scores of vomiting, nausea and retching between the two groups, so that the mean scores of vomiting, nausea and retching were significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group. Conclusion: The ear acupressure medicine at the Shen men point can be used as a non-invasive, safe and inexpensive method to relieve nausea, vomiting and retching during pregnancy. Abstract Background In this pilot study, the effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and psychological intervention on fetal growth characteristics and neonatal outcomes were evaluated in two different groups of women affected by prenatal depression. Methods Forty-seven pregnant women diagnosed with major depression were divided into two different treatment groups according to the severity of their depression. The first group was treated with a combination of pharmacotherapy and psychological support. The second group (milder depression) was treated with psychological support only. The control group (CG) was made up of 26 healthy pregnant women. All of the patients and controls were assessed by means of a structured clinical interview and different self-reported questionnaires. Fetal ultrasonography assessments were performed in the second and third trimesters. Neonatal outcomes were evaluated at delivery. Results The infants of both treatment groups showed significant alterations in fetal biometry and a higher rate of low birth weight (LBW) with respect to controls. The infants of the patients treated with psychological support showed only a significantly higher rate of head circumference, <10th percentile with respect to controls. No significant difference was found between the two patient groups when fetal growth characteristics and neonatal outcomes were taken into account. Conclusion The data obtained from this study shed light on the effects of pharmacological and psychological treatment of prenatal depression on fetal growth.

ABSTRACT Background: Emesis gravidarum can get worse into hyperemesis gravidarum which causes the body to become weaker, paler, and the frequency of urination decreases. As a result, decreased body fluids and hemoconcentration of blood can cause tissue damage. Non pharmacological treatment is very important because it reduces the pharmacological effects that appear in pregnant women. The herbal therapy that has been proven to be beneficial is the administration of peppermint, but research on the effects of Pamelo fruit related to nausea and vomiting in pregnant women is still rare. Objective: To determine the comparison of the effectiveness of peppermint and Pomelo orange on the intensity of nausea and vomiting in pregnant womenMethods: The research design was a quasi experimental study with a pretest posttest control group design approach. The number of samples was 24 pregnant women who were grouped into 3 groups. Results: The average intensity of nausea and vomiting in the peppermint group at pretest was 2.38 and decreased at posttest to 1 with P-value 0.004. The intensity of nausea and vomiting in the Pomelo group at pretest was 6.38, falling to 1.75 at posttest with P-value 0.000. The result of further test showed that there was no significant difference in the intensity of nausea and vomiting between the two groups with Sig. 0.428.Conclusion: Peppermint and pomelo are effective in reducing the intensity of nausea and vomiting in trimester I pregnant women.Suggestion : This research needs to be refined by enlarging the research sample and measuring the intensity of nausea and vomiting can be done every day during the study considering that this study only measured twice the number of 24 respondents. Keywords : Nausea, Vomiting, Pregnancy, Peppermint, Pomelo ABSTRAK Latar Belakang : Emesis gravidarum dapat bertambah berat menjadi hiperemesis gravidarum yang mengakibatkan tubuh semakin lemah, pucat, dan frekuensi buang air kecil menurun.

Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the anxiety levels of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) followed by different treatment methods. Methods Our study was carried out with 141 cases whose pregnancy follow ups were made in Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic. Cases which had GDM screening with 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were divided into 3 groups. Group 1 (control group) consisted of 50 cases with 75-g OGTT results in normal range, Group 2 consisted of 50 cases which had significant 75-g OGTT results and followed up by diet (A1), and Group 3 consisted of 41 cases which were diagnosed with GDM as a result of 75-g OGTT and received diet as well as medical therapy (A2). Beck anxiety inventory (BAI) was administered to the patients in Group 1 in 24th week, and to patients in Groups 2 and 3 in the 24th and 32nd weeks. Results In the first evaluation of the patients, BAI scores of the control group were statistically found to be significantly lower than the patients with GDM (p=0.001). There was no significant difference in BAI scores among patients diagnosed with GDM, and high anxiety scores were found in both groups. There was a significant decrease in anxiety levels in the Groups 2 and 3 after the treatment (p<0.01). In the Group 2, the BAI scores were observed to decrease from 51.76±4.47 to 45.62±3.65, and from 51.73±5.27 to 41.48±3.29 in the Group 3 (p<0.001). Conclusion In addition to the metabolic disorders brought by the disease itself, GDM can cause various problems by increasing the levels of anxiety in patients. With an effective treatment for glycemic control, anxiety levels of patients can be reduced.

Abstract The research aim is to study the efficiency of feeding Taxifolin (TAX) to pigs under moderate heat stress conditions. The experiment was performed on crossbred ((BWxL)xD) pigs (BW1=17.2–17.4 kg, 58 days old, n = 27) during the fattening period. The animals were in 3 groups: Group 1-control (standard forage-SF, n = 9), Group 2-experimental (SF+32 mg/kg Tax, n = 9), Group 3-experimental (SF, feeding Tax (32 mg/kg) periodically for 7 days at the beginning and at the end of the experiment, as well as when changing feeds, n = 9). To simulate moderate heat stress, the temperature was within the range of +24.0...+27.5°C with a humidity of 60–85%. The TAX effect manifested as an “adaptive factor”, contributing to a decrease of blood cortisol in experimental Groups 2&3 in comparison with the Control Group in the middle (93.5±16.2&133.7±16.6 vs. 147.6±27.5, nmol/l, P < 0.5) and at the end of the experiment (234.4±61.2&253.2±46.4 vs. 284.8±86.8, nmol/l, P > 0.5). Under TAX influence the concentration of blood TBARS decreased by 11.44 (P < 0.05) and 11.80% (P < 0.01) against the control group (2.40±0.12&2.39±0.08 vs. 2.71±0.05, µmol/l). The use of TAX improved ADG in the experimental groups (Week 1, Group 2, P < 0.05; Week 8, Experimental Groups 2&3, p< 0.05) in comparison with the Control Group. A more significant difference in ADG was observed in the final fattening period (1062.2±25.0&1049.9±19.9 vs. 1000.3±24.9, g, P = 0.01), and in general, for the entire fattening period (120 days of experience), ADG was 887.9±13.2&881.6±15.8 vs. 865.2±12.0 g in Control (P > 0.5). In the experimental groups, there was a tendency (75.2±0.4&74.8±0.2 vs. 73.9±0.4, %, P < 0.1) to increase the digestibility of dry matter of feed at the end of fattening. Thus, it was found that feeding TAX to pigs prevents the negative effects of temperature stress factors. The work was supported by Grant No. 19-16-00068 of the Russian Science Foundation.

Mother-infant attachment is an intimate, lasting and satisfying relationship that leads to better cognitive, emotional and social growth of the infant. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of breastfeeding training by role-play on mother-infant attachment behaviours. This research was a randomised clinical trial (parallel design). Inclusion criteria were: no history of mental disorders; ability to read and write the Persian language to complete the questionnaire; no history of drug and tobacco intake in primigravida women. The sample comprised 100 pregnant women (in 2 groups), selected through simple random sampling at healthcare centres. The researcher reviewed prenatal care registries of selected healthcare centres and extracted the names of pregnant women in their early third trimester. The data were imported into randomisation software. The control group received routine breastfeeding training, while the intervention group received routine training together with training through role-play. The data collection tool was the Maternal Behaviour Inventory Questionnaire. Consequently 75 samples were analysed in SPSS16. Independent t-tests and chi-square tests were used to examine the difference between the two groups. Results showed that the mean score of mother-infant attachment one week after delivery was significantly higher in the intervention group in comparison to that in the control group (p<0.001). No significant difference was observed between the two groups in maternal age, age of marriage, neonatal gender, maternal employment and education, number of parity, and number of abortions (P>0.05). Since breastfeeding training through role-play could affect mother-infant attachment, it is suggested that this type of training should be provided for pregnant women to promote mother-infant attachment and exclusive breastfeeding.

Iron chelation therapy with deferoxamine (DFO),the current standard for the treatment of iron overload in patients with betathalassemia, requires regular subcutaneous or intravenous infusions. This can lead to reduced quality of life and poor adherence, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality in iron-overloaded patients with beta-thalassemia. Deferasirox (DFX) is an orally administered iron chelator that has been approved for use in many countries. The requirement of an effective, well tolerated iron chelator with a less demanding mode of administration has led to the development of deferasirox. The present study was aimed to compare the satisfaction and compliance with deferoxamine versus deferasirox (Exjade®),a novel oral iron chelator in patients with transfusion - dependent beta- thalassemia. A cross-sectional,single-center investigation study was carried out in the Thalassemia Center of Ibn-Atheer Teaching Hospital in Nineveh province,Iraq. One hundred and eight thalassemic patients aged between 2- 20 years old having received multiple blood transfusions and a serum ferritin greater than 1500 ng/ml. Patients were randomised into two groups. Group 1 received deferoxamine at a dose of 20-50mg/kg/day and group 2 received deferasirox at the dose of 10-30 mg/kg/day. Another 56 apparently healthy volunteers were used as a control group. The assessment of chelation was done during the period between November 2013 and February 2014 by measurement of serum ferritin. Satisfaction and compliance was assessed by using a special questionnaire prepared by the researcher. Out of the 108 thalassemic patients enrolled there was no discontinuation in treatment with the two drugs under study. The serum ferritin did not change significantly in any of the chelation groups. In comparison with the patients who were treated with DFO,those receiving DFX reported a significantly higher rate of compliance and satisfaction (P < 0.05). However,no significant difference was observed between the two groups regarding their satisfaction (P > 0.05).Compliance with deferasirox (50 %) was more than that with deferoxamine (20 %). Satisfaction with deferoxamine was significantly lower than deferasirox (p= 0.00).

Aims: Investigation thyroid dysfunction and autoimmunity in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus. Background: This article was written to evaluate the thyroid function and anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti- TPO) antibodies in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Method: A total of 252 women with GDM and 252 healthy pregnant women were enrolled. Thyroid tests, including TSH, FreeT3, Free T4, and anti-TPO were performed for all women at 24–28 weeks of gestation. Data analysis was then carried out using SPSS ver. 22. Result: There was a significant difference between the experimental group (38.4%) and the control group (14.06%) in terms of the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism (p= 0.016). The frequency of anti-TPO was higher in the experimental group than the control group and positive anti-TPO was observed in 18.6% of women with GDM and 10.3% of healthy pregnant women (P= 0.008). Conclusion: Thyroid disorders are observed in pregnant women with GDM more frequently than healthy individuals and it may be thus reasonable to perform thyroid tests routinely.
