Mangroves are complex transition ecosystems studied and affected by human activities.. This work sought information on articles in scientific journals related to environmental impacts and their forms of management and restoration and those focused on biodiversity conservation. To answer this question, we developed this work based on a scient metric survey of production with a focus on impacts and environmental and Biodiversity responses on mangroves in the last forty years (1980 to 2020), comparing mainly the global scientific production and the production in America, listing areas of research concentration, and journal, period, country and region of publication of papers. With this survey, we could observe a standardization of the research classification area and publication periods, although checking the journals found a great variety of these. As for the regionalization of studies, we could observe that, globally, the region that most contributes to the advancement in this theme is Asia; however, the country that collaborates the most, in isolation, is the United States. Although there is a diversification regarding the specific theme, the scientific production on mangroves with an environmental focus and in Biodiversity followed a global pattern in the studied period.

Exotic species invasions are among the most significant global-scale problems caused by human activities. They can seriously threaten the conservation of biological diversity and of natural resources. Exotic European earthworms have been colonizing forest ecosystems in northeastern United States and southern Canada since the European settlement. By comparison, Asian earthworms began colonizing forests in the northeastern United States more recently. Since Asian species have biological traits compatible with a greater potential for colonization and disturbance than some European species, apprehension is growing about their dispersal into new territories. Here we review the extent of the current northern range of Asian earthworms in northeastern North America, the factors facilitating or limiting their propagation and colonization, and the potential effects of their invasion on forest ecosystems. Data compilation shows that Asian earthworms are present in all northeastern American states. So far, only one mention has been reported in Canada. Data confirm that their distribution has now reached the Canadian border, particularly along the Michigan–Ontario, New York–Ontario, Maine–New Brunswick, and Vermont–Québec frontiers. Studies report that the presence of Asian earthworms is strongly associated with human activities such as horticulture, vermicomposting, and the use of worms as fish bait. Some climatic (temperature, soil moisture) and edaphic (soil pH) factors may also influence their distribution. Controlling their dispersal at the source is essential to limiting their spread, as there is currently no effective way to eradicate established earthworm populations without unacceptable nontarget effects. Proposed management options in the United States include the prohibition of fish bait disposal and better management of the international trade of horticultural goods, commercial nurseries, and vermicomposting industries. We conclude that although regulations and awareness may delay their expansion, Asian earthworms are likely to spread further north into Canada. They are expected to cause important changes to biodiversity and dynamics of the newly invaded forest ecosystems.

OUTER SPACE IN THE SECURITY STRATEGY OF THE UNITED STATES This book contributes to a necessary effort to understand the impact of human activities in outer space on international security. Its specific task is to grasp the changing role of space applications for the security of the United States. It is not, however, a treatise on military doctrine or modern warfare, neither it is a handbook on technology. Instead, it utilizes paradigms of international relations to extract the political dimension out of this so highly technical issue. The book contains five chapters. In the first chapter, we find the analysis of some theoretical and legal aspects of the relationship between human activities in outer space and security with its multiple dimensions. The considerations of chapter two revolve around the science and technology of space applications with special attention to security issues. It is not, however, a technical manual but rather the comprehensive, general description of the characteristics of outer space presented for the sake of comprehensiveness of the whole argument. Chapter three contains a description of the historical background, which means the evolution of military space applications. But again, it does not provide detailed technical knowledge but rather concentrates on the political and strategic dimension. Chapter four is the essential part of the book as it depicts the space security policy of the United States against the background of the general international strategy of the U.S. And finally, chapter five contains some thoughts about specific issues related to the space security. The most general findings expressed in this book are as follows. Firstly, the core elements of the United States international strategy and foreign policy rely heavily on the unhampered use of space applications. But, secondly, the capabilities that these applications provide with, are increasingly contested by many international players. These competitors not only have the abilities to negate some of the American space-borne capabilities, but also create their own, similar. The latter contributes greatly to the narrowing of the technology advantage of the U.S. over its peers. And thirdly, this problematic situation will persist, compelling the United States to at least try to reverse the process of loosing of what is sometimes called the space hegemony.

Introdução: É notável o crescimento na produção de conhecimento na área da psicologia do esporte (PE). O conhecimento produzido pelos pesquisadores ocorre através da publicação de seus trabalhos no formato de artigos em periódicos científicos. Não existe na literatura análises considerando os periódicos específicos da área e suas características. Objetivo: Discutir acerca do cenário atual de periódicos específicos relacionados à PE. Métodos: Trata-se de uma pesquisa documental a respeito dos periódicos de PE. Foram extraídos e analisados dados como país, instituição, editora, língua de publicação, as métricas (JCR - ISI Web of Science, SJR, Citescore e SNIP – Scopus, e índice h5 – Google Scholar), periodicidade, período de publicações e número de artigos publicados em 2018. Resultados: Foram observados 14 periódicos na literatura relacionados diretamente a temática da PE. A maioria dos periódicos (5) é dos Estados Unidos, três da Espanha e três do Reino Unido. Brasil, Itália e Holanda apresentaram um periódico cada. A maioria dos periódicos publica na língua inglesa (13 dos 14). O fator de impacto (JCR) dos periódicos variou de 0,64 a 6,90, cinco periódicos não apresentaram essa métrica em 2018. Neste ano, os periódicos publicaram de 11 até 144 artigos. Conclusão: A partir da análise dos periódicos científicos específicos da PE, verificou-se que os de maior qualidade considerando as métricas analisadas, são dos Estados Unidos e da Europa. No Brasil ressalta-se a necessidade de fortalecimento do periódico específico existente na área, que pode ser realizado a partir da unificação das organizações que atuam na prática profissional e na pesquisa científica em PE. The knowledge produced by researchers occurs through the publication of their work in the format of articles in scientific journals. There are no analyses in the literature considering the specific journals of the area and their characteristics. Objective: To discuss about the current scenario of specific journals related to SP. Methods: This is a documentary research about the SP journals. The following data were extracted and analyzed: country, institution, publisher, publication language, metrics (JCR - ISI Web of Science, SJR, Citescore and SNIP – Scopus, and index h5 – Google Scholar), periodicity, publication period, and number of articles published in 2018. Results: It was observed 14 journals related to SP. Most of them are from United States, three from Spain and three from United Kingdom. Brazil, Italy and Netherlands showed one journal each. Most of the journals publish in English language (13 of 14). The impact factor ranged from 0.64 to 6.90, and five journals do not show this metric in 2018. In this year, the journals published from 11 to 144 articles. Conclusion: From the analysis of the specific scientific journals of the SP, it was found that the journals with highest quality are from the United States and Europe. In Brazil, there is a need to strengthen the existing specific journal in the area, which can be done by unifying the organizations that work in professional practice and scientific research of SP.

Abstract Background: Antimicrobial resistance is a serious public health problem that has become a global threat. Special attention should be given to polymyxins (polymyxin B and colistin) which, since their reintroduction into clinical practice, are considered "last resort" drugs. The objective of this study is to perform a bibliometric analysis of scientific research on polymyxin resistance.Methods: Scopus database was used to retrieve documents relevant to polymyxin resistance. At the beginning, all kinds of documents without year restrictions were included. Subsequently, the study period (2009-2018) was limited and analyzed using SciVal. Specifically, the 10 institutions and countries with the highest production, authors, journals, and most cited articles were analyzed. The growth of publications and citations was graphed, in addition to an analysis of the keywords using VOSviewer.Results: A total of 1,306 documents were retrieved (1947-2019). Original articles (76.95%) and letters to the editor (15.47%) were the most frequent types of documents. English was the predominant language with 1,270 documents (97.2%). In the period 2009-2018, there was a significant growth in publications (p-value < 0.001) retrieving 833 (64%) documents. The received citations were 23,974, with a peak in 2016 (8,033 citations). The United States and China lead the scientific production with 146 (17.5%) and 137 (16.4%) publications, respectively. University of Fribourg (Switzerland) was the most productive institution on the subject (44 documents), although University of Zhejiang (China) has caused the greatest impact (73.5 citations/article). Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy ranked first with 140 documents. Most of the documents were published in quartile 1 journals (82.7% and 69.1%, according to Scimago Journal & Country Rank and CiteScore, respectively).Conclusions: The number of documents on polymyxin resistance has increased significantly in the recent years. In the last few years alone, 64% of all documents have been published. The United States and China lead the scientific production. Greater efforts are still needed to tackle this global problem.

Alaska is globally significant for its large tracts of intact habitats, which support complete wildlife assemblages and many of the world’s healthiest wild fisheries, while also storing significant amounts of carbon. Alaska has 1/3 of United States federal lands, the bulk of the United States’ intact and wild lands, and over half of the country’s total terrestrial ecosystem carbon on federal lands. Managing Alaska’s public lands for climate and biodiversity conservation purposes over the next 30–50 years would provide meaningful and irreplaceable climate benefits for the United States and globe. Doing so via a co-management approach with Alaska’s 229 federally recognized tribes is likely not only to be more effective but also more socially just. This paper lays out the scientific case for managing Alaska’s public lands for climate stabilization and resilience and addresses three primary questions: Why is Alaska globally meaningful for biodiversity and climate stabilization? Why should Alaska be considered as a key element of a climate stabilization and biodiversity conservation strategy for the United States? What do we need to know to better understand the role of Alaska given future scenarios? We summarize evidence for the role Alaska’s lands play in climate stabilization, as well as what is known about the role of land management in influencing carbon storage and sequestration. Finally, we summarize priority research that is needed to improve understanding of how policy and management prescriptions are likely to influence the role Alaska plays in global climate stabilization and adaptation.
