The collective monograph is the result of scientific research on the history of book culture of Ukraine, conducted by scientists of the Institute of Bibliology of the Vernadsky National Library Of Ukraine during 2016-2018 on the basis of the funds of the departments of antique prints and rare editions, fine arts, music collections, foreign Ukrainiana, library collections and historical collections of the Library. The history of book culture of Ukraine of the XVI-XX centuries, which appears from the pages of this edition, has a multifaceted, but absolutely reliable character, as it is based on specific sources. In the article the status of Ukrainian bibliological research and its main characteristics throught the last two decades, i.e. since the beginning of the 21st century, are presented. The main centres, scientifi c schools, problematics of research, contribution of particular scientists in the development of bibliology and certain bibliologic disciplines are defi ned. The author discusses main trends of bibliological research at the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine as a main scientifi c institution in the fi eld of bibliology and particular bibliologic disciplines: codicology, book monument studies, history of book culture, expertise of rare books, research of historical library collections.

The history of the Institute of Fine Arts library collections cannot be disentangled from the intellectual and physical history of the Institute itself. Housed in various locations since 1938, the collections have grown parallel to the interests of the IFA’s faculty, many of whom, in its early years, were exiles from Europe and brought different approaches to the study of art. Amidst New York’s array of outstanding art research libraries, the IFA’s once extremely modest collection now comprises some 175,000 volumes, divided between two libraries: the Chan Library (for art history and archaeology) and the Conservation Center Library.

The author speculates on the life, scientific, pedagogic and social activities of Russian prominent library scientist Yury Nikolaevich Stolyarov and his contribution into the library studies. His publications embrace the problems of library collections development, general library studies, library profession and education, documentology, document resources, document communication, book culture, theory of information, library ethics, bibliopsychology by Nikolas Rubakin, information resources, efficiency of library activities, methodology, library statistics, bibliography, history of librarianship, etc. The key works by Stolyarov are listed. The importance of several works by Stolyarov is revealed: “Library: The structural and functional approach”, “The evolution of library collections studies”, ”The origins of book culture”, textbooks and learning aids in library collections studies, etc.Yury Stolyarov’s childhood years and environment, stages of his professional career, his work for Kaluga Regional Library, army service, work for Moscow State Institute of Culture and job positions, engagement in dissertation boards and IFLA activities are discussed. His pedagogical and social activities are characterized, awards are mentioned, too.

The cooperation between a prominent Ukrainian scientist, writer, publicist, publisher Oleksandr Lototsky and prominent Ukrainian writer, educator, lexicographer, literary critic Borys Grinchenko have been analysed in this article. The epistolary of Oleksandr Lototsky’s , heritage located in the fund of the Institute of Manuscripts of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine was used as a background for the study by the author. The study of Оleksandr Lototsky’s correspondence with Borys Grinchenko enables to determine that their active cooperation began in 1894 and was aimed, first of all, at the distribution of Ukrainian printed products, that had been published by Borys Grinchenko in Chernihiv. In the article for the first time it is pointed out on to the archival materials that revealed detailed information of Grinchenko books distribution in Kyiv and showed the difficulties of their sale in the bookstores. It is revealed that the further sale of books published in Chernihiv by Borys Grinchenko was made by Musiy Kononenko under the patronage of Oleksandr Lototsky. The cooperation of the writers in the publication of the collection «Vik», in which Grinchenko, who sent his works for publication, was involved, is enlightened in the article. The content of Grinchenko works published in the collection are discussed by the writers. In particular, the format of the collection «Vik» (photos, biographies, types of paper, printing), as well as payment and forwarding it to Chernihiv city, were subject for the discussion with Oleksandr Lototsky, who was true adviser for Borys Grinchenko. In this respect it has to be emphasised that the selfless and painstaking work of Oleksandr Lototsky with an aim of gathering materials to the collection «Vik», often in spite of adverse circumstances (censorship and prohibitions) formed the basis of a national culture. New names and information about important historical events have been brought to the scientific circle, some facts about the history of book publishing in Ukraine have been clarified, cultural and publishing relations of Ukrainian leaders have been revealed. Important information has been found, which opens new perspectives for further in-depth analysis of their lives and literary activities, tearing back the curtain and revealing the difficulties of the historical environment of those times. It is found out that relations of both cultural leaders behind the cooperation in the literary and publishing areas during the 1894–1900 years were attentive and friendly despite the various “inconveniences” that arose from time to time.

Introduction. The “Shestvia (Procession) Journal” is one of the most common monuments of the historical narrative of the Peter the Great era. This monument has been published many times, but still does not have a scientific publication, and its handwritten tradition has practically not been studied. Methods and materials. This work examines the manuscripts of the “Shestvia Journal” in the funds of the Department of Manuscripts of the National Library of Russia. Analysis. The study of the literary “convoy” of historical collections about Peter the Great makes it possible to establish that the “Shestvia Journal” was assigned a strictly defined place in the narrative about the initial period of the reign of Peter the Great: in 42 collections it was directly connected with the texts of the “Notes” by A.A. Matveev, and only in eight lists had a separate existence. Results. Observations on the manuscripts of the “Shestvia Journal” held in the collections of the Manuscripts Department of the National Library of Russia allow us to hypothesize that the journal was created not as an independent work, but as part of a cycle of texts devoted to the early history of the reign of Peter the Great. This cycle, along with the magazine, included “The Legend of the Conception and Birth of... Emperor Peter the Great”, as well as the work of Count AA. Matveev on the rifle riots of 1682 and 1698.

In the two decades since the establishment of the people’s Republic of China, the challenges facing porcelain production have changed significantly. Porcelain production is one of the most important and oldest traditions in China. In the 1950s, porcelain craftsmen became involved in the creation of new forms of interior plastics. Many of the pieces they created are now part of museum collections and represent the history of the development of Chinese interior porcelain. Using the example of three museums and three reference monuments, the article examines the key trends in the development of porcelain art and stylistic changes that occurred during this period. The following museums have been selected as examples to showcase the specifics of Chinese porcelain art from this period: the China Ceramic and Porcelain Museum located in Jingdezhen City, which is the country’s first major art museum specializing in ceramics; the Chinese Fine Arts Museum in Beijing, which specializes in collecting, researching and displaying works of Chinese artists of modern and contemporary eras; and the Guangdong Folk Art Museum, which specializes in collecting, researching and displaying Chinese folk art. All of these museums are engaged in collecting porcelain, including interior porcelain plastics from the mid-20th century. In the collections of the aforementioned museums, three works were selected for analysis. These are three paired compositions created in the second half of the 1950s: the sculpture “An Old Man and a Child with a Peach” by Zeng Longsheng, “Good Aunt from the Commune” by Zhou Guozhen and “Fifteen coins. The rat case” by Lin Hongxi. These porcelain compositions reveal close relations with Chinese national culture and not only reflect various scenes, but are also aimed at expanding the role of porcelain in decorating residential interiors.

The stages of development of the Azerbaijan National Library named after M. Akhundov, the main library in the country and one of the largest universal libraries of the world, which is widely regarded as a treasury of national culture of Azerbaijan. Its history reflects the history of librarianship development in the country. In 2008 the library celebrated its 85th jubilee which was the big event in research, educational and cultural life of Azerbaijan.
