Lopesia grandis (Insecta, Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) is recorded for the first time in the state of Bahia. This species induces leaf galls on Dalbergia ecastophyllum (L.) Taub. (Fabaceae). The previous records included only the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, so the geographic distribution of this galling species is extended to the Northeast region of Brazil.

Currently, the distribution of Brachycephalus hermogenesi (Giaretta and Sawaya, 1998) ranges from the state of Rio de Janeiro to the state of São Paulo. Herein, we report for the first time the occurrence of B. hermogenesi in the state of Paraná, southern Brazil.

Melanemerella brasiliana (Ulmer, 1920) occurs in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo states, Brazil. Here, we record it for the first time from the state of Bahia. The new record is based on nymphs collected from Serra Bonita Reserve, municipality of Camacan, Bahia.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to quantitatively assess the number of dentists who are specialists in Sports Dentistry and Specialist Physicians who are specialists in Sports Medicine, according to the Brazilian regions. The total number of dentists and doctors in Brazil and specialists in Sports Dentistry and Sports Medicine was collected on the websites of the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO) and the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), respectively. All data used in this research are publicly accessible. Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais are the Brazilian states with the largest number of specialist dentists in Sports Dentistry (n = 5) and São Paulo, the state with the highest number of sports medicine specialists (n = 236). By Brazilian regions, it was observed that most professionals specialized in Sports Dentistry (55.6%) and Sports Medicine (49.5%) are located in the Southeast region. In the Northeast region, for each specialist in Sports Dentistry, there are 109 physicians specialized in this therapy (1/109). There is a small number of dentists who are specialists in Sports Dentistry, when compared to the number of physicians specialized in Sports Medicine, mainly in the North and Northeast regions of the country. ResumoO objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar quantitativamente o número de cirurgiões-dentistas especialistas em Odontologia do Esporte e médicos especialistas em Medicina Esportiva, de acordo com as regiões brasileiras. O número total de cirurgiões-dentistas e médicos no Brasil e de especialistas em Odontologia do Esporte e Medicina Esportiva, foi coletado nos sites do Conselho Federal de Odontologia (CFO) e Conselho Federal de Medicina (CFM), respectivamente. Todos os dados utilizados nesta pesquisa são de acesso público. O Rio de Janeiro e Minas Gerais são os estados brasileiros com o maior número de cirurgiões-dentistas especialistas em Odontologia do Esporte (n=5) e São Paulo, o estado com o maior número de médicos especialistas em Medicina Esportiva (n=236). Por regiões brasileiras, observou-se que a maioria dos profissionais especialistas em Odontologia do Esporte (55,6%) e em Medicina Esportiva (49,5%) estão localizados na região Sudeste. Na região Nordeste, para cada especialista em Odontologia do Esporte, existem 109 médicos com especialização nesta terapia (1/109). Há uma pequena quantidade de cirurgiões-dentistas especialistas em Odontologia do Esporte, quando comparados ao número de médicos especialistas em Medicina Esportiva, principalmente nas regiões Norte e Nordeste do país. Terrestrial Isopods were sampled in four protected Atlantic Forest areas located in Serra do Mar, state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. A total of 2,217 individuals of six species (Atlantoscia sp., Benthana werneri, Pseudodiploexochus tabularis, Pudeoniscus obscurus, Styloniscus spinosus and Trichorhina sp.) were captured in pitfall traps. The exotic species S. spinosus is recorded for the first time for the Americas. Another introduced species, P. tabularis, previously recorded only from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, had its geographic distribution extended to the state of São Paulo. The most abundant isopods in this study belong to an undescribed species of Atlantoscia.

This paper includes an analysis of the length distribution of Sardine landed from the Lagoon of Cananéia in the south of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, in which it is shown that young Sardines appear in the catches during October, grow quickly until about January, and then more slowly until they reach the length of 14 cm in April. They then disappear from the Lagoon. A correlation is made between the landings of larger Sardine in Rio de Janeiro and the small Sardine landed in Cananéia the previous year. It is suggested that the abundance of Sardine landed in Cananéia may be used as an index of abundance in the following year at Rio de Janeiro.

New records of Megalops atlanticus Valenciennes, 1847 in the state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil, are reported from recreational catches carried out in February 2017. Data collected is the first occurrence of this species in more than 50 years, extending its geographic distribution by about 250 km, from Cananéia, in the south, to Guarujá, on the central coast. Although rarely recorded, M. atlanticus is present off the coast of São Paulo. This possibly represents the southernmost distribution for M. atlanticus in the Southwest Atlantic.

A checklist of the family Chelodesmidae Cook, 1895 (order Polydesmida) from state of São Paulo, Brazil has been performed based on literature and examined material from the collection of the Instituto Butantan, São Paulo (IBSP). A total of 15 genera (7 tribes and 5 genera considered incertae sedis) with 64 species are listed. Among these species, 30 presented a single one record in the state, 19 with more than one record and four recorded for the first time for the state of São Paulo, and 11 species occurring in other Brazilian states. The most distributed species is Brasilodesmus paulistus paulistus (Brölemann, 1902) with 52 records of occurrence. In addition, a complete bibliography list of the chelodesmidan fauna from the state is compiled, as well as distribution maps for all species are provided.

Twenty-seven new species of the genus Neoxyphinus are described, all from Brazil, raising the total number of species of the genus to 48. The new species with the respective geographic distribution and known sexes are: N. capiranga sp. nov. (♂♀) from Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso and Rondônia; N. caprichoso sp. nov. (♂♀) and N. garantido sp. nov. (♂♀) from Amazonas and Pará; N. crasto sp. nov. (♂♀) from Bahia and Sergipe; N. murici sp. nov. (♂♀) from Alagoas and Sergipe; N. meurei sp. nov. (♀) from Bahia and Mato Grosso; N. belterra sp. nov. (♂♀) from Pará and Mato Grosso; N. ornithogoblin sp. nov. (♂♀), N. sax sp. nov. (♂♀), N. coari sp. nov. (♂♀), N. tucuma sp. nov. (♂♀), N. ducke sp. nov. (♂) and N. carigoblin sp. nov. (♀) from Amazonas; N. almerim sp. nov. (♂), N. mutum sp. nov. (♂♀), N. caxiuana sp. nov. (♂♀), N. cachimbo sp. nov.
