PECVD Synthesis of Silicon Nanowires Assisted by Templates of Gallium Islands

AbstractIn this study, we investigated the growth of silicon nanowires forced by small gallium droplet templates. Those gallium islands previously were deposited by a modified PECVD method. Two different delivery techniques of the trimethylgallium precursor (TMGa) were tested regarding their applicability. On the one hand standard liquid delivery was performed, on the other the precursor was transported by vapor draw out of the heated bubbler. The TMGa then was pulsed into the carrier gas flow. The effects on the deposited islands of both delivery methods were compared. As substrates <111> oriented p-doped silicon wafers were used. For the subsequent growth of the silicon wires similarly PECVD was used as growth method. Silane served as precursor. Argon and hydrogen were used as plasma enhanced gases. The effects of the Ga particles deposited by both process modes upon the generated wires were analyzed.

We report a strategy feasible for improving the internal gettering (IG) capability of iron (Fe) for n/n+ epitaxial silicon wafers using the heavily arsenic (As)-doped Czochralski (CZ) silicon wafers as the substrates. The n/n+ epitaxial silicon wafers were subjected to the two-step anneal of 650 °C/16 h + 1000 °C/16 h following the rapid thermal processing (RTP) at 1250 °C in argon (Ar) or nitrogen (N2) atmosphere. It is found that the prior RTP in N2 atmosphere exhibits much stronger enhancement effect on oxygen precipitation (OP) in the substrates than that in Ar atmosphere, thereby leading to a better IG capability of Fe contamination on the epitaxial wafer. In comparison with the RTP in Ar atmosphere, the one in N2 atmosphere injects not only vacancies but also nitrogen atoms of high concentration into the heavily As-doped silicon substrate. The co-action of vacancy and nitrogen leads to the enhanced OP in the substrate and therefore the better IG capability for the n/n+ epitaxial silicon wafer.

Nanostructured gold supported TiO2, ZnO, and Al2O3materials (1% w/w Au) were tested as sorbents for gaseous mercury (Hg) trapping and preconcentration. Their analytical performances were first compared with the one of traditional gold wool trap for the quantification of Hg standards injected into the argon flow followed by thermal desorption at 600°C and CVAFS detection. Good linearity and reproducibility were obtained, especially for Au/TiO2material (R2=0.995; slope: 1.39) in the volume range of 10 to 60 µL (132–778 pg Hg). This latter even showed a better performance compared to pure Au in the volume range of 10 to 100 µL (132–1329 pg Hg) when the carrier gas flow was increased from 60 to 100 mL min-1. The method detection limit (MDL) obtained with Au/TiO2trap (0.10 pg Hg0 L-1) was suitable for total gaseous mercury (TGM) determination. Au/TiO2was, therefore, used in trapping and determining TGM in collected air samples. TGM values in the samples ranged from 6 to 10 ng m-3. Similar results were obtained with the commercial gold-coated sand trap which showed an average TGM concentration of7.8±0.9 ng m-3.

Following a detailed study of two of the mechanical precipitators in the air preheaters of a thermoelectric power plant, a large amount of ash that was deposited on one of the inlet conduits was observed, obstructing the incoming gas flow. A comparison of the available data for the two most recent hopper cleaning operations revealed that, on the one hand, the amount of ash collected by the clogged precipitator (A) was significantly less than that collected by the other (B) and, on the other hand, the temperature of the ash in the former was noticeably lower than in the latter. Prior to the cleaning of the conduits, a certain amount of damage was caused to the boiler dome, which meant that subsequent cleaning required the use of a hydrolazer, where it was noted that inlet pressures were very high. All of this indicated that the cause of the clogging was not physical. This paper provides a comprehensive analytical analysis that explains what happened, as well as resolving the situation.

The first question to be answered, in seeking coordinate systems for geodynamics, is: what is geodynamics? The answer is, of course, that geodynamics is that part of geophysics which is concerned with movements of the Earth, as opposed to geostatics which is the physics of the stationary Earth. But as far as we know, there is no stationary Earth – epur sic monere. So geodynamics is actually coextensive with geophysics, and coordinate systems suitable for the one should be suitable for the other. At the present time, there are not many coordinate systems, if any, that can be identified with a static Earth. Certainly the only coordinate of aeronomic (atmospheric) interest is the height, and this is usually either as geodynamic height or as pressure. In oceanology, the most important coordinate is depth, and this, like heights in the atmosphere, is expressed as metric depth from mean sea level, as geodynamic depth, or as pressure. Only for the earth do we find “static” systems in use, ana even here there is real question as to whether the systems are dynamic or static. So it would seem that our answer to the question, of what kind, of coordinate systems are we seeking, must be that we are looking for the same systems as are used in geophysics, and these systems are dynamic in nature already – that is, their definition involvestime.

The fabrication of the aluminum bridge test vehicle for use in the crystallographic studies of electromigration involves several photolithographic processes, some common, while others quite unique. It is most important to start with a clean wafer of known orientation. The wafers used are 7 mil thick boron doped silicon. The diameter of the wafer is 1.5 inches with a resistivity of 10-20 ohm-cm. The crystallographic orientation is (111).Initial attempts were made to both drill and laser holes in the silicon wafers then back fill with photoresist or mounting wax. A diamond tipped dentist burr was used to successfully drill holes in the wafer. This proved unacceptable in that the perimeter of the hole was cracked and chipped. Additionally, the minimum size hole realizable was > 300 μm. The drilled holes could not be arrayed on the wafer to any extent because the wafer would not stand up to the stress of multiple drilling.

Abstract. Two experiments examined the influence of stories on recipients’ self-perceptions. Extending prior theory and research, our focus was on assimilation effects (i.e., changes in self-perception in line with a protagonist’s traits) as well as on contrast effects (i.e., changes in self-perception in contrast to a protagonist’s traits). In Experiment 1 ( N = 113), implicit and explicit conscientiousness were assessed after participants read a story about either a diligent or a negligent student. Moderation analyses showed that highly transported participants and participants with lower counterarguing scores assimilate the depicted traits of a story protagonist, as indicated by explicit, self-reported conscientiousness ratings. Participants, who were more critical toward a story (i.e., higher counterarguing) and with a lower degree of transportation, showed contrast effects. In Experiment 2 ( N = 103), we manipulated transportation and counterarguing, but we could not identify an effect on participants’ self-ascribed level of conscientiousness. A mini meta-analysis across both experiments revealed significant positive overall associations between transportation and counterarguing on the one hand and story-consistent self-reported conscientiousness on the other hand.

SummaryThe prognosis of patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) has improved considerably by introduction of aggressive consolidation chemotherapy and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (SCT). Nevertheless, only 20-30% of patients with AML achieve long-term diseasefree survival after SCT. The most common cause of treatment failure is relapse. Additionally, mortality rates are significantly increased by therapy-related causes such as toxicity of chemotherapy and complications of SCT. Including radioimmunotherapies in the treatment of AML and myelodyplastic syndrome (MDS) allows for the achievement of a pronounced antileukaemic effect for the reduction of relapse rates on the one hand. On the other hand, no increase of acute toxicity and later complications should be induced. These effects are important for the primary reduction of tumour cells as well as for the myeloablative conditioning before SCT.This paper provides a systematic and critical review of the currently used radionuclides and immunoconjugates for the treatment of AML and MDS and summarizes the literature on primary tumour cell reductive radioimmunotherapies on the one hand and conditioning radioimmunotherapies before SCT on the other hand.

In recent years, political and social conditions have changed dramatically. Many analyses help to capture these dynamics. However, they produce political pessimism: on the one hand there is the image of regression and on the other, a direct link is made between socio-economic decline and the rise of the far-right. To counter these aspects, this article argues that current political events are to be understood less as ‘regression’ but rather as a moment of movement and the return of deep political struggles. Referring to Jacques Ranciere’s political thought, the current conditions can be captured as the ‘end of post-democracy’. This approach changes the perspective on current social dynamics in a productive way. It allows for an emphasis on movement and the recognition of the windows of opportunity for emancipatory struggles.

On the one hand, multiculturalism, socio-political, religious differentiation of the latter appear as important characteristics of its democracy, as a practical expression of freedom, on the other - as a factor that led to the deconsocialization of society, gave rise to "nodal points" of tension, confrontational processes, in particular, in political and religious spheres.

Two aspects of Schumpeter' legacy are analyzed in the article. On the one hand, he can be viewed as the custodian of the neoclassical harvest supplementing to its stock of inherited knowledge. On the other hand, the innovative character of his works is emphasized that allows to consider him a proponent of hetherodoxy. It is stressed that Schumpeter's revolutionary challenge can lead to radical changes in modern economics.
