This study examines children’s influence across stages in family decision making process while making buying decisions for child and family product in Indian rural and urban families. A cross-sectional survey method was carried out with “structured non-disguised” questionnaire to collect the primary data from the students of class eighth to twelfth in the age group of  13-to-18 years from 100 families residing in rural and 100 families residing in urban areas in Delhi, India. Statistical  tools such as mean, standard deviation and repeated measures ANOVA have been used to analyze and interpret the collected data. Children’s influence across three stages of decision making process was measured by using a ten-item scale developed by Talpade and Talpade (1995) and the reliability of the scale was assessed by calculating Cronbach alpha. The results of this study found that children in Indian families are also exerting influence in family buying decisions and (i) children’s influence in family decision making varies across decision making stages according to type of product; (ii) it is the child product for which children’s influence is higher.

Purpose This paper aims to study and compare variables such as location, industry, socio-demographics and business factors of several companies located in Western Macedonia. Design/methodology/approach Research method is based on primary data the authors collected through questionnaires and secondary data obtained from State Statistical Office. Besides, the research sums up data classification of companies in the aspect of geomarketing and how location determinants and geo-information of certain cities can influence their business development and decision-making. Lastly, the results of data and Structural Equation Modeling integration are presented. Findings Since Republic of Macedonia is more than 25 years in transition, experts have often foreseen that companies in their country most of the time make intuitive decisions and do not take into account many elements during decision-making process in the business aspect. But on the other hand, results reveal interesting facts about companies involved in their research. For a majority of companies, the influence of geomarketing on business development is positive as long as during decision-making process its determinants have been taken into consideration and reviewed. Practical implications The paper helps the entrepreneurs to develop their businesses and decision-making process based on geomarketing determinants. Originality/value This is the first paper that investigates and compares variables such as location, industry, socio-demographics and business factors of companies located in Macedonia.

A rational decision-making process is essential for municipal governments, as it promotes progressive development and makes them more democratic and service-oriented. This study explores the decision-making process in Bangladesh’s Sylhet City Corporation (SCC). Both primary data via a survey of relevant respondents and secondary data were collected. The study found that, although both the mayor and councillors participate in making decisions at the SCC, it is the mayor who plays the dominant and vital role, exercising power by convincing councillors of his leadership qualities. For these reasons, the decision-making process of the SCC is not fully democratic. If councillors were able to play a greater role, the decisions of the SCC would be more collective. Surveys are usually confused with the term observation in the everyday sense, surveys are also the main way to collect primary data if secondary data are deemed incomplete to answer a question, if the secondary data is complete enough and the hypothesis can be tested with secondary data then Direct primary data collection using the survey method is no longer necessary, a survey is looking for detailed factual information that is currently symptomatic and identifying problems or to justify conditions and ongoing activities to find out what people are doing which is the target of research in solving problems, as material for planning and making decisions in the future. SMART (Simple Multi - Attribute Rating Technique) is a multi-criteria decision-making method developed by Edward in 1977.This multi-criteria decision-making technique is based on the theory that each alternative consists of a number of criteria that have values and each criterion has a weight describes how important it is compared to other criteria. This weighting is used to assess each alternative in order to obtain the best alternative. SMART uses a linear additive model to predict the value of each alternative. SMART is a flexible decision making method.

Past studies have considered gender of children as an important variable (Lee and Collins, 2000) in explaining the influence of child on family decision making. The findings from prior research suggest that in family purchases, female children (probably due to the early learning of sex roles) have more influence than male children (Lee and Collins, 2000; Moschis and Mitchell, 1986). This study provides a gender-wise analysis of children’s influence across stages of family decision making process in the purchase of child product and family product in Indian families. A cross-sectional survey method was carried out and the primary data for the study was collected through a “structured non-disguised” questionnaire. The sample population consisted of 488 male children and 278 female childrenin the age group 13 to 18 years. The collected data have been analyzed and interpreted with the help of statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation and repeated measures ANOVA. It was posited that children’s influence in stages of decision making process for child product and family product varies across (i) gender of children (H1), (ii) place of residence, i.e., rural and urban families (H2). Both the hypotheses were not supported by the analysis results.
