The object of research is the processes of material and technical support of projects in the field of supply chain management. One of the most challenging areas faced by logistics and project managers is determining the appropriate level of supply chain inventory management when implementing projects. Today, there is a demand for the development and implementation of dynamic supply chains, the essence of which is to increase the service level by increasing the speed of response to customer requests and flexibility in excess components (high stock levels, unbalanced duration of supply cycles), taking into account the uncertainty of demand. The analysis of the justification of the value of the supply chain, namely of such components as logistics costs, the cost of storing inventories and deficit costs, is carried out. Models of inventory management in the supply chain with centralized and decentralized service are presented. Calculations of the indicators of the standard deviation of demand and the duration of the supply cycle, the values of the cyclic and safety stock are presented. For the situation of centralized service of the resource flow, the influence of the demand dependence on the stock level was investigated. The study used the theory of supply chain management and project management, which made it possible to take into account the variability of demand and the duration of supply. As a result of the work, models of the volume of insurance stocks in conditions of uncertainty in demand and the duration of the supply cycle of resources are proposed. In order to ensure the optimal strategy of resource provision, the concept of «service level» was investigated. The service level of the first kind (cyclical service level) and the service level of the second kind (saturated demand) are considered. The results of this research provide an opportunity to improve project efficiency in the face of volatile demand, reduced product life cycle and increased competition. Such changes require supply chains to develop strategies that are focused on the end user, that is, an integrated supply chain management strategy is required.

PurposeThis paper aims to encourage the study of blockchain technology from an operations and supply chain management (OSCM) perspective, identifying potential areas of application, and to provide an agenda for future research.Design/methodology/approachAn explanation and analysis of blockchain technology is provided to identify implications for the field of OSCM.FindingsThe hype around the opportunities that digital ledger technologies offer is high. For OSCM, a myriad of ways in which blockchain could transform practice are identified, including enhancing product safety and security; improving quality management; reducing illegal counterfeiting; improving sustainable supply chain management; advancing inventory management and replenishment; reducing the need for intermediaries; impacting new product design and development; and reducing the cost of supply chain transactions. The immature state of practice and research surrounding blockchain means there is an opportunity for OSCM researchers to study the technology in its early stages and shape its adoption.Research limitations/implicationsThe paper provides a platform for new research that addresses gaps in knowledge and advances the field of OSCM. A research agenda is developed around six key themes.Practical implicationsThere are many opportunities for organisations to obtain an advantage by making use of blockchain technology ahead of the competition, enabling them to enhance their market position. But it is important that managers examine the characteristics of their products, services and supply chains to determine whether they need or would benefit sufficiently from the adoption of blockchain. Moreover, it is important that organisations build human capital expertise that allows them to develop, implement and exploit applications of this technology to maximum reward.Originality/valueThis is one of the first papers in a leading international OSCM journal to analyse blockchain technology, thereby complementing a recent article on digital supply chains that omitted blockchain.

Background: The increased variability in production or procurement with respect to less increase of variability in demand or sales is considered as bullwhip effect. Bullwhip effect is considered as an encumbrance in optimization of supply chain as it causes inadequacy in the supply chain. Various operations and supply chain management consultants, managers and researchers are doing a rigorous study to find the causes behind the dynamic nature of the supply chain management and have listed shorter product life cycle, change in technology, change in consumer preference and era of globalization, to name a few. Most of the literature that explored bullwhip effect is found to be based on simulations and mathematical models. Exploring bullwhip effect using machine learning is the novel approach of the present study. Methods: Present study explores the operational and financial variables affecting the bullwhip effect on the basis of secondary data. Data mining and machine learning techniques are used to explore the variables affecting bullwhip effect in Indian sectors. Rapid Miner tool has been used for data mining and 10-fold cross validation has been performed. Weka Alternating Decision Tree (w-ADT) has been built for decision makers to mitigate bullwhip effect after the classification. Results: Out of the 19 selected variables affecting bullwhip effect 7 variables have been selected which have highest accuracy level with minimum deviation. Conclusion: Classification technique using machine learning provides an effective tool and techniques to explore bullwhip effect in supply chain management.

The customer-oriented approach is actively developing within the global trend of the modern industrial revolution that is Industry 4.0. The focus on customer interests has led to cooperation and integration in supply chains, improving their efficiency and increasing transparency, awareness, and trust. However, an issue emerging in this scenario is that conventional supply chain management (SCM) procedures are unable to identify the potential proposal for a particular user. Modern businesses need to build integrated supply chains, which require well-developed infrastructure and easily available complementary services, relying on logistics as a networking technology. Supply chains of this generation grow from traditional individual desynchronized economic relations (linear models with some feedback and the simplest network configurations) to scalable, adaptable, harmonized partner networks. The logistics potential allows additional income by reducing the total costs of participants in the network, thus increasing the competitiveness of companies; this can be implemented based on new models of interaction in the current digital environment through, firstly, system integration. Our goal consists of identifying the essential characteristics of system integration and substantiating the methods for its implementation in the digital economy. The study is based on the analysis of global best practices, considering the reports from leading consulting companies and competent analytical agencies. We have confirmed that the role of a virtual system integrator of supply chains belongs to logistics platforms; the effects of a transition to platform business models are discussed in detail.

This paper presents the impact of applying the supply chain management (SCM) on the agribusiness field to optimize productivity and decreasing cost which will have a direct impact on the net income of the organization. The main two research questions are: is there a significant impact of supply chain management on financial performance? and is there a significant relationship between supply chain management and financial performance as well as responsibility accounting? To answer the research questions, data was collected from financial statements of agribusiness case from Egypt and the survey was conducted. The findings of the study indicated that there is a significant impact of supply chain management on financial performance through enhancing the productivity, decreasing the cost and improving profitability. Moreover, applying the efficient supply chain management can improve the use of responsibility accounting through the efficient usage for the budget of the crop.

In this paper we take a closer look at developments in supply management. The main change in this discipline seems to be (2011) that cooperation and risk management are taking over the classical silo based way of looking at business. Companies start to learn that transactions block the profits throughout the chain. Or, to put it the other way around, supply chain parties learn that sharing interests is earning much more money and that supply chains become ‘faster, cheaper and better’.

The territorial approach is the basic approach to a region management. At the same time, the “territory” component is the basis of the logistics complex used in Supply Chain Management. In this regard, a need is to clarify and supplement the theory and methodology of the territorial approach to the management of both the region and the supply chains. The subject of this study is the relationship between the regional authorities and the focus enterprise of the supply chain regarding the development of the territories and resources of the region on a mutually beneficial basis. The research methods are methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, as well as classification, and the tools are binary matrices that provide for the joint use of two classification attributes of the object under study and their dichotomies. The results of this study are the management principles by the competitiveness and sustainability of the management object; classifications of approaches to the management by the region and supply chains; of territories from the point of view of the focus enterprise of the supply chain and the region; the management decisions in the interaction of regions with the links of supply chains; the sequence of the formation of supply chains and the development of territories and resources of the region on the basis of the territorial approach and the relationship between them. The obtained results allow to reduce the costs and time for the development of territories and resources of the region by reducing the lost profits of the supply chain links due to their rational placement and increasing sustainability by achieving a synergistic effect both by the region and by the supply chains.
