Palavras-chave: Sistema vertical, gotejamento, coeficiente de uniformidade     VENTURA, K. ANALYSIS OF APPLICATION UNIFORMITY IN DIFFERENT LOCALIZED IRRIGATION SYSTEMS     2 ABSTRACT   The growing need to leverage production in less space drives the agricultural research, making it to create technologies that seek to meet this demand. The possibility of producing vegetables in an alternative way is something that draws the attention of family of farmers and urban dwellers who wish to produce their own food. Irrigation is one of the most important practices for the success of a conventional or vertical garden, so it is critical that irrigation systems have an excellent uniformity in the water application. Thus, to evaluate the system is a primordial stage to guarantee the adequate irrigation management. This work aims to evaluate the uniformity coefficients (Christiansen, distribution and statistical coefficients) in a drip tape after 2 cycles, in two cropping systems (traditional and vertical). With the results obtained, it was possible to observe that the drip tape used in the vertical system got higher uniformity coefficients than the conventional one, ensuring that the application of water in this system was more satisfactory.   Keywords: Vertical system, drip irrigation, uniformity coefficient

In terms of water use efficiency, the traditional seepage irrigation systems commonly used in areas with high water tables are one of the most inefficient methods of irrigation, though some irrigation management practices can contribute to better soil moisture uniformity. Subsurface drip irrigation systems apply water below the soil surface by microirrigation, improving the water distribution and time required to raise the water table for seepage irrigation. Abstract To improve the water application uniformity for sprinkler irrigation on sloping land, indoor tests were conducted on an artificial slope (slopes of 0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) to evaluate the effects of two riser orientations, vertical (VO) and perpendicular (PO) to the slope, on the uniformity of sprinkler rotation, radius of throw, water distribution of an individual sprinkler and the overlapped water application uniformity (WAU). Compared with the VO, the PO could effectively improve the water distribution on sloping land and minimize the risk of soil erosion. Additionally, the PO was superior in the WAU, and a rectangular arrangement could dramatically enhance the WAU at smaller sprinkler spacing, while larger acceptable sprinkler spacing was accepted in a triangular arrangement. The riser orientation and sprinkler spacing had the most significant effect on the WAU, followed by the slope and sprinkler arrangement, suggesting that the adjustment of riser orientation or sprinkler spacing was helpful in improving the WAU. However, from the aspects of investment cost and installation convenience for irrigation projects, the method of PO was recommended. Therefore, when designing the sprinkler irrigation systems on the slope, choosing PO is the simplest and most effective way to achieve good irrigation uniformity.

Abstract The wetting pattern of soil under trickle (drip) irrigation is governed by soil texture, structure, initial water content, emitter spacing, discharge rate and irrigation frequency. For efficient management of trickle irrigation moisture distribution plays an important role. The degree of soil wetted volume in an irrigation system determines the amount of water required to wet the root zone. This article helps in understanding moisture distribution for different lateral spacing, emitter spacing, emitter discharge rates and drip line installation depth for trickle irrigation under various soil conditions all over the world. This review reveals that soil moisture distribution and uniformity within the soil profile were affected by the distance between emitters rather than the distance between drip lines. In drip irrigation systems, the less the dripper spacing, the greater the moisture distribution as well as water use efficiency and crop yield. The radial spread of moisture was greater at lower water application rates, whereas the vertical spread was greater at higher water application rates. The vertical movement of soil moisture was greater than the horizontal movement under surface as well as subsurface drip irrigation systems. Deeper drip tape installations had a potential risk of not providing moisture to shallow rooted crops.

Irrigation systems may exhibit variations in performance when poorly dimensioned or depending on the time of use. In this sense, the objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of irrigation systems located by micro sprinkler and drip irrigation in the sweet potato crop in a family property in the municipality of Guaraciaba do Norte-CE. The property under study in this research has a total area of 2.5 ha. The area cultivated with sweet potatoes is 120 m2 with 50% of the area irrigated by drip irrigation and the remainder irrigated by micro sprinkler. In order to analyze the performance of the irrigation systems, the methodology proposed by Keller and Karmeli (1975) was adopted, in which the flow rates of the emitters are determined in pre-established positions. Were determined the coefficients of uniformity of Christiansen (CUC); coefficient of statistical uniformity (CUE); Hart uniformity coefficient and distribution uniformity coefficient (CUD). Irrigation systems presented uniformity coefficients higher than 90%, for all the equations applied in this work, both also presented application efficiency higher than 85%. Due to the high coefficients of uniformity found it was concluded that the irrigation systems located on the property were well sized and mounted

This research tests the hypothesis that decreasing lateral spacing from 45 to 35 feet in solid-set sprinkler systems increases the uniformity of irrigation water distribution and improves water and N fertilizer use efficiencies. Three different spacings between sprinkler laterals (35', 40', and 45') were set up in three blocks in a 60-acre commercial carrot field in Western Kern County in California's San Joaquin Valley. Determinations of irrigation water distribution uniformity, yields, crop water use, plant growth, and nitrate leaching were made. Mean sprinkler distribution uniformities (DU) were found to be 80.6%, 78.1%, and 86% for the 35-, 40-, and 45-ft spacings, respectively. Total carrot yield and quality did not differ significantly among the three spacings, corroborating the finding that irrigation uniformities were similar among the treatments. Although the three lateral spacings evaluated in this initial experiment did not result in major differences in irrigation uniformity, total yields, or quality, the findings of this initial stage of our research are significant. They point to the need for new assessments of currently used protocols for evaluating sprinkler irrigation management of water and nitrogen fertilizer if they can be confirmed by repeated trials in coming years.

EFFICIENCY OF WATER APPLICATION BY A CENTRAL PIVOT IN DIFFERENT REGIONS OF MINAS GERAIS     2 ABSTRACT   The practice of irrigation guarantees water supply where there is demand, and the efficient use of this resource is essential. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of central pivot systems of rural properties in different regions of Minas Gerais (MG). Field tests were performed to determine the coefficients of water distribution, thus allowing the evaluation of the efficiency of the central pivots. The parameters studied were: uniformity of water application (CUC and CUD), irrigation efficiency, and percentage of adequately irrigated area. The central pivots tested showed, in general, acceptable levels of water application uniformity. The CUCs and CUDs are 82% of the environmental systems presented values above 80% and 70%, respectively. The efficiency of water application also presented values within the allowable and normal limits, obtaining an average of 91%, also characterizing a good efficiency of water application. A percentage of adequately irrigated area reached an average of 49%, being considered regular. Thus, control systems can be characterized as being functional systems.   Keywords: Central pivot; irrigation uniformity; uniformity coefficient

Although several studies have been conducted to evaluate the uniformity of water application under center pivot irrigation systems, there are few studies concerning the economic perspective of such coefficient. The aim of this study is to present a methodology to accomplish an economic analysis as support for the decision-making to retrofit emitters in center pivot irrigation systems, and to attribute an economic meaning to the uniformity coefficient of water application taking into account the response function productivity to the amount of water applied and the sale price of the crops. In the hypothetic calculation example considering the variation of revenue of potato crop under center pivot irrigation system, it was verified that the area with uniformity coefficient of water application of 90% brought an income increase of BR$ 1,992.00, considering an area about 1,0 ha. Thus, it can be concluded that the methodology presented has met the objectives proposed in the study and made it possible to attribute an economical meaning to the coefficient of water uniformity application.
