Abstract The purpose was to evaluate, in vitro, the fracture strength of teeth restored with 0.3- or 0.6-mm-thick occlusal veneers made of Vita Enamic® bonded to enamel or dentin. Fifty third molars were allocated into five groups (n=10): Group C - control (sound teeth); Group 0.3E - 0.3-mm-thick occlusal veneers bonded to enamel; Group 0.6E - 0.6-mm-thick occlusal veneers bonded to enamel; Group 0.3D - 0.3-mm-thick occlusal veneers bonded to dentin; Group 0.6D - 0.6-mm-thick occlusal veneers bonded to dentin. After luting with Single Bond Universal and Filtek Z-100, the samples were subjected to fracture strength test in a universal testing machine. The fractures were classified as irreparable and reparable. Data were analyzed with 2-way and 1-way ANOVA (α=.05) followed by Tukey’s test. The teeth restored with 0.3-mm-thick occlusal veneers (2658 N) achieved significantly higher fracture strength compared to the teeth restored with 0.6-mm-thick occlusal veneers (2070 N) (p=0.017). The teeth restored with occlusal veneers bonded to enamel (2648 N) had significantly higher fracture strength compared to the teeth restored with occlusal veneers bonded to dentin (2049 N) (p=0.015). Group C (3355 N) and Group 0.3E (2965 N) did not differ significantly from each other, being the fracture strength significantly higher than the other groups (p<0.05). The fractures were predominantly reparable. The teeth restored with 0.3-mm-thick occlusal veneers achieved higher fracture strength compared to the teeth restored with 0.6-mm-thick occlusal veneers. The supporting substrate influenced the fracture strength, which was higher for the teeth restored with occlusal veneers bonded to enamel.

Many temporary cements are commercially available; therefore, it is necessary to indicate them for each clinical requirement with regard to the tensile strength of prosthetic retainers. Thus, the purpose of this study was to compare the retention of provisional crowns cemented with eight temporary cements, over full crown preparations with standardized mechanical principles as height, taper, and length. For that purpose, eighty human first premolars received full crown preparation with standardized height and taper. Provisional crowns were fabricated and luted with eight brands of temporary cements. Twenty four hours after cementation, the restorations were submitted to tensile strength test in a universal testing machine and the data submitted to ANOVA and Bonferroni tests. Mean tensile strength values ranged from 20.1N for Nogenol cement to 67.5N for Hydro C cement. Statistically significant difference (p<0.05) was found between Hydro C and the other groups, except for Temp Bond and Rely X Temp, which presented statistically significant difference when compared to Freegenol and Nogenol temporary cements. The crowns cemented with Hydro C cement were more retentive that than those cemented with the other cements, except for Rely X Temp and Temp Bond. The less retentive crowns were those cemented with Nogenol and Freegenol temporary cements.

Objectives: This study was made to detect the effect of accelerating aging on retention and measuring the release period of clips in a 2 and 3 bar retained maxillary implant overdenture. Materials and Methods: Four implants were placed in two maxillary edentulous epoxy models. One model had two bar attachments with two clips overdenture while the other model had three bar attachments with three clips in the overdenture. Retention and release period of the clips were checked before applying insertion removal cycles. Retention was measured using universal testing machine after 540 cycles (6 months) and 1080 cycles (1 year) of insertion removal on a chewing simulator.Results and Conclusions: There was a significant difference in retention and release period between two bars and three bars implant retained maxillary overdentures. A significant difference was also seen in each group after accelerated aging. Therefore, the three bar implant retained overdenture had higher retention values than two bar. Retention loss occurred in both groups after the insertion removal cycles. Release period value was lower in two bar overdenture than three bar overdenture.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture strength of teeth with different cavosurface margin cavity preparations and restored with composite resin and different adhesive systems. Eighty premolars were randomly divided in 8 groups, as follow: G1- sound teeth; G2- MOD preparation (no restoration); G3- Adper Single Bond without bevel preparation (butt joint); G4- Adper Single Bond with bevel preparation; G5- Adper Single Bond with chamfer preparation; G6- Clearfil SE Bond without bevel (butt joint); G7- Clearfil SE Bond with bevel preparation; G8- Clearfil SE Bond with chamfer preparation. The adhesive systems were applied according to manufacturers’ instructions. Composite resin (Filtek Z250) was incrementally placed in all cavities. After 24 h, the specimens were tested in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Data were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Tukey’s test (fracture strength) and Fisher’s exact test (fracture pattern). The confidence level was set at 95% for all tests. Prepared and non-restored teeth showed the worst performance and G4 exhibited the highest fracture strength among all groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, all restorative treatments were able to recover the fracture strength of non-restored teeth to levels similar to those of sound teeth. Using a total-etch adhesive system with bevel preparation significantly improved the resistance to fracture.

ABSTRACT Aim This study evaluates bond strength between dentin and composite using adhesives with different solvents to dry and wet dentin. Materials and methods Ninety bovine incisors were used; the vestibular surfaces were worn by the exposure of an area with a diameter of 4 mm of dentin. The specimens were divided into 6 groups, according to the type of adhesive used and hydratation stals: Group SB-wet: Single Bond 2 in wet dentin, Group SBdry: Single Bond 2 in dry dentin, Group SL-wet: Solobond M in wet dentin, Group SL-dry: Solobond M in dentin dry. Group XPwet: XP Bond in wet dentin, Group XP-dry: XP Bond in dentin dry. They were cut to obtain specimens in the shape of stick with 1 × 1 mm and subjected to microtensile test in universal testing machine with a cross speed of 1mm/min. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey's tests (5%). Results ANOVA showed significant differences for surface treatment and interaction, but no difference was found for adhesive factor. The Tukey's test showed that the samples with wet dentin shown higher values of bond strength. Conclusion The adhesive did not influence in the bond strength. Tuntutan masyarakat terhadap tumpatan sewarna gigi semakin tinggi. Pada kasus-kasus tertentu teknik restorasi dengan menggunakan dua bahan restorasi yang berbeda (teknik tumpatan sandwich) diperlukan untuk mendapatkan restorasi yang dapat melekat kuat dan mempunyai estetika yang bagus. Teknik tumpatan sandwich yang sering dilakukan adalah menggunakan semen ionomer kaca dan resin komposit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek perbedaan ketebalan semen ionomer kaca dan resin komposit terhadap kekuatan tekan tumpatan sandwich secara in vitro. Pada penelitian ini digunakan 40 subjek penelitian berupa tumpatan sandwich yang dibuat pada cetakan fiber dengan kavitas berbentuk sHinder dengan diameter 5 mm dan tinggi 5 mm. Semua kavitas ditumpat dengan semen ionomer kaca dan resin komposit dengan teknik sandwich, dengan perbandingan ketebalan yang berbeda. Kelompok I dilakukan penumpatan semen ionomer kaca tipe II dan resin komposit packable dengan perbandingan 1:4, kelompok II dengan perbandingan 2:3, kelompok III dengan perbandingan 3:2, kelompok IV dengan perbandingan 4:1. Selanjutnya seluruh subjek penelitian direndam dalam saliva tiruan pH 6,7 dan disimpan pada suhu 370C selama 24 jam dalam inkubator, kemudian diukur kekuatan tekan menggunakan alat uji tekan Universal Testing Machine. Hasil analisis dengan Anava satu jalur menunjukkan perbedaan ketebalan semen ionomer kaca dan resin komposit mempunyai efek yang bermakna terhadap kekuatan tekan tumpatan sandwich (p < 0,05). Hasil uji LSD rerata kekuatan tekan antar kelompok 1,11,III dan IV berbeda bermakna (p < 0,05), dapat disimpulkan bahwa perbedaan ketebalan semen ionomer kaca dan resin komposit berpengaruh terhadap kekuatan tekan tumpatan sandwich.

ABSTRAK Kebutuhan braket transparan pada perawatan ortodonti semakin berkembang dengan adanya kebutuhan braket sewarna gigi, terutama wanita yang memerlukan penampilan estetik maksimal. Braket yang lepas dalam perawatan ortodonti perlu direkatkan kembali. Pembersihan landasan braket yang terlepas sehingga dapat direkatkan kembali akan mengurangi biaya yang harus dikeluarkan pasien. Melakukan daur ulang braket haruslah dapatdapat dilakukan tanpa merubah sifat fisik dan ukuran dari braket tersebut. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental analitik laboratoris in vitro dengan pendekatan komparatif yang bertujuan untuk melihat perbedaan kuat rekat geser braket keramik yang dibersihkan dengan kloroform selama 20 menit, 40 menit, 60 menit. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 60 buah braket keramik monokristalin  merek Ice Inspire dari Ormco dengan perlekatan mekanik. Pengukuran uji rekat geser menggunakan Instron Universal Testing Machine dan sisa resin menggunakan skor ARI. Analisis statistik dilakukan dengan uji Wilcoxon dan ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan bermakna kuat rekat geser braket keramik pasca rekat yang dibersihkan dengan kloroform selama 20 menit, 40 menit, 60 menit dan braket keramik pascarekat yang baru. Simpulan dari penelitian ini bahwa Terdapat perbedaan kuat rekat geser braket keramik yang dibersihkan dengan kloroform selama 20 menit, 40 menit, 60 menit dengan braket keramik yang baru, Semakin lama waktu pembersihan braket keramik dengan kloroform, sisa resin adhesif akan semakin bersih dan mempunyai kuat rekat geser yang lebih tinggi. Terdapat perbedaan sisa resin adesif antara braket keramik pasca rekat yang dibersihkan dengan kloroform yang dilepas kembali dengan braket keramik pasca rekat yang baru.   Kata Kunci : perbedaan kuat rekat geser, kloroform, kuat rekat geser, ARI, braket keramik.                                                                                                    ABSTRACT Transparant bracket needs in orthodontic treatment is become huge caused the needs of tranlucent bracket , especially women who require maximum aesthetic appearance. Debonding bracket in orthodontic treatment need  to reattached.  By Cleaning mesh of bracket so it can be reattached to reduce patient costs . Recycling bracket must can done without changing the physical properties and the size of bracket. This study is an experimental study in vitro analytical comparative approach that aims to see the difference shear strength adhesion to ceramic brackets were cleaned with chloroform for 20 minutes , 40 minutes , 60 minutes . The sample used in this study were 60 pieces of ceramic bracket monokristalin from Ormco Inspire Ice with mechanical retention. Measurement of shear strength test using the Instron Universal Testing Machine and the rest of the resin using ARI scores . Statistical analysis was used  with Wilcoxon test and ANOVA . The results showed there were significant differences in the bracket shear strength rebonding ceramic bracket, which cleaned with chloroform for 20 minutes , 40 minutes , 60 minutes and new rebonding ceramic bracket. Conclusions from this research that There is a difference in the shear strength ceramic brackets  which cleaned using chloroform for 20 minutes , 40 minutes , 60 minutes and with a new ceramic bracket , the longer time cleaning ceramic bracket with chloroform, the rest of the adhesive resin will be clean and have strong adhesion higher shear. There are differences between the residual resin adhesive after adhesive ceramic bracket cleaned with chloroform is released back and the ceramic new bracket rebonding. Key words :

This study evaluated, in vitro, the loss of tooth substance after cavity preparation for direct and indirect restorations and its relationship with fracture strength of the prepared teeth. Sixty sound human maxillary first premolars were assigned to 6 groups (n=10). MOD direct composite cavities (Groups I, II and III) and indirect inlay cavities (Groups IV, V and VI) were prepared maintaining standardized dimensions: 2-mm deep pulpal floors, 1.5-mm wide gingival walls and 2-mm high axial walls. Buccolingual width of the occlusal box was established at 1/4 (Groups I and IV), 1/3 (Groups II and V) or 1/2 (Groups III and VI) of the intercuspal distance. Teeth were weighed (digital balance accurate to 0.001 g) before and after preparation to record tooth substance mass lost during cavity preparation. The prepared teeth were submitted to occlusal loading to determine their fracture strength using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Tukey test (alpha= 0.05). 1/4-inlay cavities had higher percent mean mass loss (9.71%) than composite resin cavities with the same width (7.07%). 1/3-inlay preparations also produced higher percent mean mass loss (13.91%) than composite resin preparations with the same width (10.02%). 1/2-inlay cavities had 21.34% of mass loss versus 16.19% for the 1/2-composite resin cavities. Fracture strength means (in kgf) were: GI = 187.65; GII = 143.62; GIII = 74.10; GIV = 164.22; GV = 101.92; GVI = 50.35. Statistically significant difference (p<0.05) were observed between Groups I and IV, II and V, III and VI. Higher tooth structure loss and lower fracture strength were recorded after preparation of inlay cavities, regardless of the width of the occlusal box, compared to the direct composite resin cavities.

Objective. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of different fiber insertion techniques and thermomechanical aging on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated mandibular premolar teeth restored using bulk-fill composites. Materials and Methods. Eighty human mandibular premolar teeth were randomly divided into eight groups: Group IN, Group BF, Group PRF1, Group PRF2, Group IN-TMA, Group BF-TMA, Group PRF1-TMA ,and Group PRF2-TMA. Group IN (intact) and Group IN-TMA (intact but subjected to thermomechanical aging) served as control groups. In the other six groups, endodontic treatment was performed and standardized mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) cavities were prepared. In BF, PRF1, and PRF2, the cavities were restored with bulk-fill composite only, bulk-fill/Ribbond, and bulk-fill/additional Ribbond, respectively. In BF-TMA, PRF1-TMA, and PRF2-TMA, the teeth were subjected to thermomechanical aging after the restorations. All of the teeth were fractured on the universal testing machine. Fracture surfaces were analyzed with a stereomicroscope. Results. Control groups showed significantly higher fracture strengths than tested groups (P<0.05). No statistically significant difference was observed among the tested groups (P>0.05). Most of the favorable fractures were seen in PRF1, PRF2, and PRF2-TMA. Most of the unfavorable fractures were seen in BF-TMA. Conclusions. Although fiber insertion with different techniques did not increase the fracture strength of teeth restored with bulk-fill composites, it increased the favorable fracture modes. Thermomechanical aging did not change the fracture strength of the groups.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the retention of cast posts cemented with four types of cements and assess the mode of root fracture following their removal. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro, experimental study, 48 upper central incisors were randomly divided into 4 groups of 12, and were endodontically treated. The fabricated cast posts in each group were cemented with zinc phosphate (Masterdent), glass ionomer (GI; Meron), Meta resin cement, and Panavia SA resin cement. A device was customized for post removal by a universal testing machine similar to WAM X pliers. The retention of cemented posts was measured by the pull-out test in a universal testing machine. Next, the teeth were macroscopically and microscopically inspected regarding the occurrence and sites of catastrophic fracture, cracks, or craze lines. Quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed by ANOVA, and Chi-square test, respectively (P<0.05). Results: ANOVA showed a significant difference in the mean retention of cements (P<0.001). Panavia provided the highest retention (278.6±34.9 N) followed by zinc phosphate (221.9±28.88 N), GI (161.3±60.7 N), and Meta (140.4±66.54 N). There was no significant difference between the groups regarding the pattern of root fracture (P=0.39). However, site and extent of fractures were significantly different among the groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: The conventional cements provided optimal retention and caused less root damage after post removal. Thus, cements providing adequate retention and allowing easier post removal are recommended for use in endodontically treated teeth with a possibility of requiring retreatment.

Aim: Evaluation of stresses induced on over-denture abutments endodonticaly treated with two different obturation techniques.Materials and methods: eight mandibular permanent canines were inserted in four pesudo-realistic models.  In each model two canines were placed in it. One canine was treated with lateral obturation technique and the other canine with vertical obturation technique. Four over-denture prostheses were fabricated on the four models. Then strain gauges were attached on the coronal one third of the root buccally and lingually for all eight canines. A metal rod was placed occlusally on the premolar –molar area, and a 50 N load was applied on the middle of the rod using the universal testing machine. Readings were collected. Results: from the collected data the lateral obturation showed 85.25±104.901 µε and the vertical obturation showed 4.875±3.555 µε with significance difference of P<0.05 between the groups.Conclusion: it can be concluded that the abutments treated with vertical obturation techniques reduced the stresses induced to the supporting structures when compared with the lateral condensation technique.
