Abstract Objective: To understand the perception of nursing staff about intraoperative distractions and interruptions. Methods: An exploratory qualitative study was performed with 16 nursing professionals of a surgical center in Minas Gerais. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview and thematic content analysis was performed. Results: When reflecting on the occurrence of distractions and interruptions of intraoperative activities, nursing professionals define, identify and value events in a heterogeneous way, but believe that distractions and interruptions negatively affect both the quality of the work environment and the safety of care provided to the surgical patient. Factors contributing to the occurrence of distractions and interruptions are related to aspects inside the operating room such as equipment failure and use of cell phones and to external factors such as verbal messages given at the operating room door. Incidents have been reported due to distractions, but there are no established actions to minimize these events. Conclusion: This study indicates the importance of implementing strategies that minimize the occurrence of distractions and interruptions of intraoperative activities in order to plan surgical care better, and prevent and mitigate harm to patients.

Abstract OBJECTIVE To understand the nursing professionals' conceptions of teamwork and their elements. METHOD A qualitative study conducted in an oncological hospital using a semi-structured interview with 21 nursing professionals. RESULTS Two conceptions emerged from the accounts: teamwork restricted to nursing professionals and teamwork with interprofessional collaboration with particular importance for interactive dimensions: communication, trust and professional bonds, mutual respect and recognition of the other's work, collaboration, and conflict, with this last subcategory considered as an obstacle to teamwork. CONCLUSION Nursing conceives teamwork as an interprofessional practice, which is a result of the quality of interaction among professionals from different areas and involves the recognition and handling of conflicts.

Aim: This study aimed to identify the factors hampering the participation of nurses in the activities of CE sessions at the level of hospitals in the region of Casablanca. Background: Continuing education (CE) for nursing staff represents a strategic asset for hospitals, identifying the constraints of nursing staff participation in continuing training could help improve the quality of care for patients and the population in general. Objective: This study aimed to identify the factors hampering the participation of nurses in the activities of CE sessions at the level of hospitals in the region of Casablanca. Methods: The study used a two-phase mixed method design. First of all, a questionnaire was administered to 930 nurses belonging to 9 hospital centers in the Casablanca-Settat region in order to explore and estimate the frequencies of the factors hindering the participation of nurses in the activities of the FC sessions at the level of hospitals, and a semi-structured interview with 9 persons in charge of continuing education from these different hospitals to complete and explain the data collected by the questionnaire. Results: The data analysis confirmed that the work overload is the first individual difficulty hindering the participation of nurses in CE sessions, i.e., 85.4%. The most mentioned organizational difficulties are schedule recommended in the FC not encouraging and not suitable, i.e., 23%, non-targeted content (does not meet the needs of the nursing staff), i.e., 66.7%. Finally, the absence of support measures in terms of monitoring and evaluation to maintain the knowledge and skills acquired during FC sessions in real situations at the workstation occupied is the first institutional difficulty mentioned by the interviewed (88%). Conclusion: Those responsible for training should take into account the factors nurse’s face in participating in continuing education sessions when designing, developing, and implementing continuing education sessions.

Surgery is constantly evolving along the history. Surgery has seen an impressive evolution due to advances in anesthesia, basic research, means of exploration, immunology, genetics, pharmacology and especially in artificial intelligence. Surgery has evolved from open surgery to minimally invasive surgery, then to robotic surgery and in future to digital surgery. The five pillars of digital surgery are: (1) robotics, (2) advanced instrumentation, (3) enhanced visualization, (4) connectivity, and (5) data analytics and machine learning. Surgical education has evolved from Halsted's model (one see, one do, one teach) to special training programs such as the Rasmussen model in 3 stages: skill based behavior, ruled based behavior, knowledge based behavior. Digital technologies are changing surgical education. New terms appear such as: Massive open online courses, Flipped classrooms, Digital badges, Virtual anatomy, Medical holograms. Artificial intelligence can improve surgical education. It can bring transparency to the operating room and accelerate surgical education. Digital Mentoring provides the next generation of the digital platform with the transfer of surgical knowledge from an expert to a practitioner and allows surgeons to evolve to achieve the best results. In addition, all members of the operative team can benefit from training using augmented virtual reality. Establishing an infrastructure that allows the perfect integration of robotics, artificial intelligence, advanced instrumentation, advanced training methods, educational programs will allow the rapid development of innovation and surgical progress. In this way, digital surgery will provide globally advanced surgical care in continuous improvement. The classical methods still remain valid in the training of young surgeons. The most important aspect remains the training in the operating room. The new methods do not exclude the classic training that gave good results, but they complement and make general surgery more attractive for the new generation. In the desire to reform surgical education we have actually lost the purpose of training - the surgical patient, which is real, not virtual. The most important aspect that must be transmitted to young surgeons is the humanism of our profession, which for the time being cannot take the digital form.

Nursing staff play a very important role in the modern medical system, and nursing is the key teaching content for training nursing professionals. There are many problems in traditional nursing teaching due to various limitations, which greatly affect the effectiveness of nursing teaching. Experiential teaching can make up for the shortcomings of traditional teaching methods, effectively improve the quality of nursing teaching, and further improve the nursing teaching system. This article analyzes the application status of experiential teaching in nursing teaching, and further elaborates the research on the progress of experiential teaching in nursing teaching.

Introduction: Physical handling (PH) of patients is an essential component of nursing care. It is an intervention that is troublesome for patients and strenuous for general nurses and other nursing staff. Handling techniques and mechanical aids for PH have improved through the years; however, they are not routinely used in nursing practice. Aim: The aim of this research was to determine (1) the level of awareness of PH issues within the management of South Bohemian hospitals, (2) how management perceives, organizes and implements PH protocols, and (3) how PH protocols are applied in everyday nursing practice. Method and Research Sample: Two qualitative methods were used: a semi-structured interview and observation. The participants were management representatives of South Bohemian hospitals in Czech Republic. Fifty nurses were observed during PH at the same hospitals. Results: The study found that PH was not monitored, nor was it provided systematically. In spite of this, no serious drawbacks were found; nonetheless, many areas were identified where the quality of PH could be improved. For example, awareness of PH issues by management, educational programs teaching new handling techniques, and provision of state-of-the-art PH aids. Several issues related to PH were found to be related to staff shortages, which remains a major problem. Conclusion: This issue needs more attention; it should be addressed by both those doing nursing research as well as those engaged in everyday nursing practice. Both will require the assistance of hospital staff and management.

The shift to an integrated IBS construction approach requires enhanced supply chain integration to improve the productivity as well as the poor quality of human behavioual aspect in IBS project. This paper is to identify the challenges at each tier between players to facilitate supply chain integration among the IBS players. Findings adopted from semi-structured interview revealed the critical attitude issues of human factors, lack of interaction and sharing knowledge between interdisciplinary people. The findings of this study is useful to improve integration of supply chain and enhance innovation and sharing interaction between players in the IBS Malaysian construction project environment.© 2016.
