The aim of this study was to evaluate cementitious matrices properties by partial replacement of Portland cement by silica fume (SF) or by rice husk ash (RHA), and their application in nonbearing hollow blocks, tested by destructive and non-destructive methods. The following mixtures were produced: reference (100% of Portland cement) and Portland cement replacement (10% by mass) with SF or RHA. The non-destructive testing showed that the highest values of UPV were obtained for SF-based blocks and RHA-based blocks. The destructive test showed better results for SF-based blocks, but there was no statistical difference between the RHA-based and control ones.

The inspection and control of sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFR) is a major issue for the nuclear industry. Ultrasonic solutions are under study because of the opacity of liquid sodium. In this paper, the use of leaky Lamb waves is considered for non-destructive testing (NDT) on parallel and immersed structures assimilated as plates. The first phase of our approach involved studying the propagation properties of leaky Lamb waves. Equations that model the propagation of Lamb waves in an immersed plate were solved numerically. The phase velocity can be experimentally measured using a two dimensional Fourier transform. The group velocity can be experimentally measured using a short-time Fourier transform technique. Attenuation of leaky Lamb waves is mostly due to the re-emission of energy into the surrounding fluid, and it can be measured by these two techniques.

This paper outlines the standardisation process for the XRPD method that is currently being considered by a Working Group (WG10) of Technical Committee 138 "Non-destructive Testing" of the European Committee for Standardisation CEN. Several Standard Documents are on the verge of being released. These documents concern the general principles of (X-ray) diffraction, its terminology, and the basic procedures applied. Another document concerns the instruments used and it offers procedures to characterise and control the performance of an X-ray diffractometer properly. It is intended to issue Standard Documents on specific methods, e.g. determination of residual stresses. In fact work is in progress on this subject. The Standard Documents can be used by industry, government organisations, and research centres with activities related to safety, health and the environment, as well as for educational purposes.

The monograph considers a wide range of issues related to the determination of strength characteristics of concrete by non-destructive methods. The physical principles of the main methods of non-destructive testing of concrete in structures are stated, promising directions of improvement of non-destructive methods are considered. Much attention is paid to the development of ultrasonic methods of concrete testing. The extensive experimental material of laboratory tests and the results of field tests at construction sites, which are considered from the standpoint of the current standards and the introduced norms of the European Union, are presented. The results of long-term observation of deformations of the supporting frame of a high-rise building obtained using an automated monitoring system are presented. It is intended for engineering and technical workers of construction laboratories, designers, specialists engaged in the design and use of non-destructive testing of concrete, and will also be useful to students, undergraduates, graduate students and teachers of higher educational institutions dealing with quality control in construction.

Currently, in various industries (engineering, aircraft, energy, etc.) the issue of product quality assurance and control is particularly acute. This is due primarily to the ever-increasing requirements for increasing reliability with increasing loads on products, which entails the strengthening of technical standards. The issue of quality control for rocket and space technology products is especially relevant. Modern power structures of rocket and spacecraft made of polymer composite materials, and especially the body of solid fuel rocket engines (SFRЕ), are multilayer packages of various polymer-composite materials (PKM), obtained and interconnected in the process of manufacturing the body. The efficiency of SFRЕ depends on the quality of the formation of PKM in production conditions. The most important issues are the implementation of production quality control of composite structures, the reliability of control results and the ability to automate the control process. The article presents an automated system of non-contact ultrasonic non-destructive testing, which allows to control the stability of the technological process of forming the composite material of the wall of the SFRЕ body and, if necessary, to adjust it. The probability of detecting zones of anomalous violation of the integrity of the wall material of the SFRЕ housing is carried out due to adaptive algorithms, digital systems of multilevel matrix processing and optimal filtering of the received signals. The automated system of contactless ultrasonic non-destructive quality control of SFRЕ cases allows to register conditions of scanning and control for more visual representation of the defectogram in the expanded look of the case of a product in the course of control and at documentation of its results. The presented results of work on the development of an automated system of non-destructive testing of the integrity of the buildings of the SFRЕ type "cocoon" confirm the possibilities of practical implementation in production.

Our work aims to studying the addition of the natural pozzolan located in Beni Saf (Algeria) at non-destructive testing for the evaluation of pozzolan mortar reinforced to corrosion. We chose to study this natural addition because of its low cost and its pozzolanic reactivity. To do this, we have carried out tests on mortars made to Portland cement CEM I 42,5 N and substituted by weight based percentages of different natural pozzolan (10%, 20% and 30%). We have measured the corrosion potential and the corrosion speed of different deadlines. The results indicated that is it possible to highlight the beneficial effect of this addition. The analysis of achievements shows that the addition of the pozzolan in optimal quantities has the following advantages: protection of reinforcement against corrosion and increase the resistance against the sulfate attack (5% Na2SO4).

The problems of automation of control processes in the non-destructive testing units are considered. The analysis of normative and technical documents is carried out and the main components of the non-destructive testing system and their parameters are determined. The developed software and relational database for monitoring and control of the unit have been integrated into trial operation in the non-destructive control units of the freight car repair company. Based on the statistical processing of control results, the possibility of assessing the efficiency of NDT inspectors and control devices was shown. The use of a network database and developed software makes it possible to improve the efficiency of control processes in the units of non-destructive testing by reducing the time spent on analysis and deciding on scheduled activities, the formation of reporting documentation.

Biomass is a bulky and inhomogeneous material, making it difficult to transport and store. In order to solve this problem, it has been found that the most common way to overcome the limitation of the biomass bulk density is to increase it with fine shredding. This chapter investigated the ability to identify specific operation conditions in a prototype biomass shredder by developing and utilizing non-destructive testing and artificial intelligence techniques. In order to demonstrate the performance of proposed methods, three different case studies investigated the different operation conditions from the vibration signals acquired through the ball bearings of the biomass shredder. The results showed that the two classifiers can provide reliable results using as inputs statistical features in time and frequency domain. These statistical features can be used with success for identify different operating condition. The combination of the statistical features with the appropriate classifiers gives a powerful tool for the agricultural biomass shredder condition monitoring.
