Recent years have seen significant advances in machine perception, which have enabled AI systems to become grounded in the world. While AI systems can now "read" and "see", they still cannot read between the lines and see through the lens, unlike humans. We propose the novel task of hidden message and intention identification: given some perceptual input (i.e., a text, an image), the goal is to produce a short description of the message the input transmits and the hidden intention of its author, if any. Not only will a solution to this task enable machine perception technologies to reach the next level of complexity, but it will be an important step towards addressing a task that has recently received a lot of public attention, political manipulation in social media.

George Orwell, the English author, in his book called “Nineteen Eighty Four” wrote about life set in the year 1984, painting a depressing picture of a world filled with propaganda, never-ending war, and a life occupied with pervasive scrutiny of one’s life by others. One of the tools Winston, the protagonist in the dystopian novel, has to contend with is the telescreen. Its functions are to monitor a person’s movement and capture their conversation where ever they may be, including in private places such as one’s own home. What is very compelling about the book, we find, is that it was written in 1949. Orwell was able to predict rather splendidly what he thought life would be like 35 years ahead of the time he wrote the book. Now, fast forward 69 years later, Orwell’s telescreen is really not very different from our smartphones and other social media devices. Our smartphones now not only keep information about us once we log in, but are able to gather information from our speeches even when we are not talking into it! Orwell’s 1984 is an epitome of foresight, as it is not only the telescreen in the novel that we can identify with in the 21st century, but many other aspects of the current sociopolitical goings-on in the world. If Orwell were still alive today, we would like to ask him – what would higher education be like in the next ten years?

BACKGROUND The novel coronavirus disease (hereafter COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a global pandemic. During this time, a plethora of information regarding COVID-19 containing both false information (misinformation) and accurate information circulated on social media. The World Health Organization has declared a need to fight not only the pandemic but also the infodemic (a portmanteau of information and pandemic). In this context, it is critical to analyze the quality and veracity of information shared on social media and the evolution of discussions on major topics regarding COVID-19. OBJECTIVE This research characterizes risk communication patterns by analyzing public discourse on the novel coronavirus in four Asian countries that suffered outbreaks of varying degrees of severity: South Korea, Iran, Vietnam, and India. METHODS We collect tweets on COVID-19 posted from the four Asian countries from the start of their respective COVID-19 outbreaks in January until March 2020. We consult with locals and utilize relevant keywords from the local languages, following each country's tweet conventions. We then utilize a natural language processing (NLP) method to learn topics in an unsupervised fashion automatically. Finally, we qualitatively label the extracted topics to comprehend their semantic meanings. RESULTS We find that the official phases of the epidemic, as announced by the governments of the studied countries, do not align well with the online attention paid to COVID-19. Motivated by this misalignment, we develop a new natural language processing method to identify the transitions in topic phases and compare the identified topics across the four Asian countries. We examine the time lag between social media attention and confirmed patient counts. We confirm an inverse relationship between the tweet count and topic diversity. CONCLUSIONS Through the current research, we observe similarities and differences in the social media discourse on the pandemic in different Asian countries. We observe that once the daily tweet count hits its peak, the successive tweet count trend tends to decrease for all countries. This phenomenon aligns with the dynamics of the issue-attention cycle, an existing construct from communication theory conceptualizing how an issue rises and falls from public attention. Little work has been performed to identify topics in online risk communication by collectively considering temporal tweet trends in different countries. In this regard, if a critical piece of misinformation can be detected at an early stage in one country, it can be reported to prevent the spread of misinformation in other countries. Therefore, this work can help social media services, social media communicators, journalists, policymakers, and medical professionals fight the infodemic on a global scale. CLINICALTRIAL N/A

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) which was first reported in China's Wuhan province in December 2019 became a global pandemic within a few months. The exponential rise in COVID-19 cases globally was accompanied by a spike in misinformation about the pandemic, particularly on social media. Employing Social Network Theory as a lens, this qualitative study explores how selected international celebrities appropriated their Twitter micro-blogging pages to announce their COVID-19 infection to the world. The study finds that these celebrities can take advantage of their huge social media following to counter disinfodemic and promote awareness about health pandemics.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the world in ways not seen since the 1918–1920 Spanish Flu. Disinformation campaigns targeting health crisis communication during this pandemic seek to cripple the medical response to the novel coronavirus and instrumentalize the pandemic for political purposes. Propaganda from Russia and other factions is increasingly infiltrating public and social media in Ukraine. Still, scientific literature has only a limited amount of evidence of hybrid attacks and disinformation campaigns focusing on COVID-19 in Ukraine. We conducted a review to retrospectively examine reports of disinformation surrounding health crisis communication in Ukraine during the COVID-19 response. Based on the themes that emerged in the literature, our recommendations are twofold: 1) increase transparency with verified health crisis messaging and, 2) address the leadership gap in reliable regional information about COVID-19 resources and support in Ukraine.

Misinformation can amplify humanity's most significant challenges. As the novel coronavirus spreads across the world, concerns regarding the spreading of misinformation about it and also people downplaying the severity of it are also growing. This article investigates social media activity in May 2020, specifically Twitter, with respect to COVID-19, the themes of tweets, where the discussion is emerging from, disinformation shared about the virus, and its relationship with COVID-19 incidence rate at the state and county level. A geodatabase of all geotagged COVID-19 related tweets was compiled. Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression was employed to examine the association between social media activity, population, and the spatial variability of disease incidence; our results suggest that MGWR could explain 96.7% of the variations. Moreover, Covid-19 related twitter dataset content analysis reveals a meaningful strong spatial relationship that exists between social media activity and known cases of COVID-19. Discourses analysis was conducted on tweets to index tweets downplaying the Pandemic or disseminating disinformation; the discourses analysis findings suggest that states in where twitter users spread more misinformation and showed more resistance to pandemic management measures in May are experiencing a surge in the number of cases in July.

Background: Coronaviruses have caused outbreaks of respiratory disease since the beginning of the 21st century, representing a significant threat to public health. Together, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), the respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and, more recently, the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) have caused hundreds of thousands of deaths around the world. Thus, investments in research and the development of strategies aimed at diagnosing, treating, and preventing these infections are urgently needed. Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the patents that address pathogenic coronaviruses in Google Patents databases in the last year (2019-2020). Method : The search strategy was carried out in April 2020, based on the keywords “SARS”, “SARS-CoV”, “MERS”, “MERS-CoV”, “SARS-CoV-2” and “COVID-19. Out of the patents examined, 25 were selected for a short description in this study. Results: A total of 191 patents were analyzed, 149 of which were related to SARS-CoV, and 29 and 12 were related to MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV2, respectively. The patents addressed the issues of diagnosis, therapeutic agents, prevention and control, along with other applications. Conclusion: Several promising strategies have been documented in intellectual property databases favoring the need for further studies on the pathogenesis and optimization of the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment for these emerging infections.

In the digital era, social media has become a space for the socialization and interaction of citizens, who are using social networks to express themselves and to discuss scientific advances with citizens from all over the world. Researchers are aware of this reality and are increasingly using social media as a source of data to explore citizens’ voices. In this context, the methods followed by researchers are mainly based on the content analysis using manual, automated or combined tools. The aim of this article is to share a protocol for Social Media Analytics that includes a Communicative Content Analysis (CCA). This protocol has been designed for the Horizon 2020 project Allinteract, and it includes the social impact in social media methodology. The novel contribution of this protocol is the detailed elaboration of methods and procedures to capture emerging realities in citizen engagement in science in social media using a Communicative Content Analysis (CCA) based on the contributions of Communicative Methodology (CM).

Akhir-akhir ini masyarakat dunia tengah diguncang dengan virus yang sudah ditetapkan menjadi pandemi dunia, ialah novel coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Maka dari itu, program kerja yang diusulkan pada KKN Mandiri UNIB 91 ini berfokus pada membantu pemerintah untuk memaksimalkan upaya pencegahan penyebaran lebih luas. Metode pelaksanaan KKN Mandiri UNIB 91 ini sudah dilakukan secara berkala selama 5 minggu dan disebarluaskan melalui media sosial serta mengirimkan kepada masyarakat Kelurahan Tanjung Agung. Pelaksanaannya mulai dari persiapan hingga laporan mingguan yang dilaporkan setiap akhir pekan. Luaran yang dihasilkan dari program kerja yang diusulkan berupa masyarakat bisa paham protokol kesehatan penanganan Covid-19 serta bagaimana cara meningkatkan imunitas tubuh. Selain itu, akan ada produk berupa empat video, tiga leaflet dan tiga puluh bungkus jahe instan yang akan dibagikan ke warga Kelurahan Tanjung Agung Kota Bengkulu.EFFORTS TO CONTROL THE SPREAD OF THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (Covid-19) PLANE IN TANJUNG AGUNG SUB-DISTRICT, SUNGAI SERUT DISTRICT, BENGKULU CITY. Recently, the world community is being shaken by a virus that has been declared a world pandemic, namely the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Therefore, the proposed work program at the UNIB 91 Mandiri KKN focuses on helping the government to prevent wider spread. The method of implementing KKN Mandiri UNIB 91 is carried out regularly for 5 weeks and disseminated through social media and sending to the community of Tanjung Agung Village. The implementation starts from preparation to weekly reports which are reported every weekend. The output resulting from the proposed work program is that the public can understand the health protocol for handling Covid-19 and how to increase immunity. In addition, there will be products in the form of four videos, three leaflets and thirty packs of instant ginger which will be distributed to residents of Tanjung Agung Village, Bengkulu City.

Abstract: To be accepted by society the emergency of literary work requires a decription of critics as a moderator. The existence of educational discourse in the novel Laskar Pelangi as a major significance in the text, making more public attention drawn to wonder how the author reveals the values of education throught literature. Description critic of the discourse of education and then supported by an educational institution makes the publication of this novel spread rapidly. Yet, there is the publishing industry who benefited, namely promotion to attract consumers. This condition is not realized with the efforts undertaken to mobilize communities into the world of discourse that has been conditioned. There are those who playing around, which then provide legitimacy for the determination of both (appraisal) of such literary works under the direction of education to attract public attention. Social media is one of the information media that is currently widely used by several companies and personally to convey information, with the presence of social media companies no longer need to spread offers through print media, they can use information technology tools in this case social media to submit offers the products they sell to users globally through social media. This social media marketing technique is the process of reaching visits by internet users to certain sites or public attention through social media sites. Marketing activities using social media are usually centered on the efforts of a company to create content that attracts attention, thus encouraging readers to share the content through their social media networks. The application of the QMS method is certainly not only submitted through search engine webmasters, but also on a website keywords must be applied that relate to the contents of the website content, because with the keyword it will automatically attract visitors to the university website based on keyword phrases that they type in the search engine. With Search Media Marketing Technique (SMM) is one of the techniques that must be applied in conducting sales promotions, especially in car dealers in Bandung, it is considered important because each product requires price, feature and convenience socialization through social media so that sales traffic can increase. Each dealer should be able to apply the techniques of Social Media Marketing (SMM) well so that car sales can reach the expected target and provide profits for sales as car sellers in the field.
