We report a case of Grave's disease in pregnancy complicated by intolerance of standard antithyroid drug therapy. We describe the success of prolonged use of organic iodine as a primary treatment prior to surgical intervention.

The article presents the results of a study of the effect of a complex physical rehabilitation on the dynamics of restoration of cognitive impairments in patients in the early recovery period of the cerebral ischemic stroke. The study included 83 patients. All patients under study were distributed to the main group and the comparison group. The average age of the patients was 66,0 ± 2,3 years. Patients of two groups received standard drug therapy aimed at secondary prophylaxis. The patients under study from the main group additionally undertook a course of physical rehabilitation treatment within 21 days. Assessment of the condition of cognitive functions was carried out with the help of psychodiagnostic scales before the onset and after completion of treatment. The study showed that the use of a complex rehabilitation treatment, which includes drug therapy within the framework of secondary prophylaxis and course of physical rehabilitation can significantly affect the improvement of the state of moderately impaired cognitive functions in patients with a hemispheric ischemic stroke.

Introduction: Cervicofacial cellulitis resulting from common odontogenic infections is rare but serious, with life-threatening complications and potential general or local complications. Observation: Two cases are discussed here. The first observed case concerned a 32-year-old patient, affected by gangrenous cellulitis, following the avulsion of teeth number 38. The second observed case was of a chronic periapical infection being left untreated. The urgency of these two cases required the coordination of medical and surgical specialist teams to ensure a stable and successful treatment, involving surgical treatment, drug therapy, and reanimation. Discussion: The inadequate treatment or chronic dental infections, associated with immunosuppression and some cofactors (tobacco, alcohol, drugs, pregnancy, etc.), can lead to severe case of cellulitis. Medical and surgical management should be carried out as soon as possible to prevent the onset of serious complications such as mediastinitis, septic shock, and thrombophlebitis.

The use of physical rehabilitation methods, in particular respiratory rehabilitation for pneumonia, allows to increase the tolerance to physical activity, improve oxygen consumption and endurance of patients compared to the initial level, reduce the frequency and duration of their hospitalization, as well as significantly improve the effectiveness of drug therapy. In the first stage of assisting patients with pneumonia of various genesis, therapeutic exercises are recommended that improve drainage function of the bronchi and promotes the discharge of bronchial mucous. Prescription of physiotherapeutic methods of treatment, which have a bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, anti-edema and resorption effects, significantly increase the effectiveness of complex therapeutic measures. A comprehensive approach to the treatment of pneumonia can produce better results by using all therapeutic physical exercise and physiotherapy options that have proven effective over many decades.

In a review of the topic, Pollock, Baer, Pomeroy, and Langhorne (2009) concluded that surface electromyography (SEMG) biofeedback does not appear to have any positive benefit for recovery for loss of motor function. One would expect that a modality that can provide a window onto muscle functioning would be widely used as a means to restore motor function after injury. However, in 2019 little had changed regarding the use of SEMG. It is not commonly found in the armamentarium of treatment options in the typical physical/occupational therapy clinic. The reasons for this are multifaceted, but can be summarized as lack of knowledge or application of the conditions required for success. This article will attempt to encourage the reader to engage in further study for one very important reason—it enables successful treatment.

COPD is characterized not only by pulmonary pathology but also by systemic disorders leading to abrupt reduction in physical tolerance causing a significant decrease in the patients' quality of life (QoL). Training of upper and lower limb muscles along with breathing training, training of respiratory muscles using respiratory training devices and adequate drug therapy can improve physical tolerance of COPD patients. The aim of this work was to compare different methods of physical rehabilitation under the therapy with tiotropium bromide (TB). The study involved 45 patients with severe and very severe COPD (the mean age, 64.5 ±11.0 yrs) randomized into 3 groups: the 1st group patients took inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), short-acting b-agonists and TB, the 2nd group patients were treated with the same medications plus respiratory muscle training with Threshold IMT, PEP, and the 3rd group received the same medications plus skeletal muscle training. The study continued for 3 months and included 3 active visits with testing of lung function (LF) and respiratory muscle strength (Pi, Pe), 6-minute walking test (6-MWT), evaluation of QoL using the SF-36 questionnaire and of dyspnea using MRC scale. As a result, all groups have improved QoL, LF, respiratory muscle strength, and 6-minute walk distance after 3-month treatment. The best values of QoL and 6-MWT were seen in the 3rd group. The greatest improvement for the 2nd group patients was noted in LF and respiratory muscle strength. The 1st group also improved all the parameters. Therefore, we can not exclude the effect of TB on physical tolerance in COPD patients. We conclude that combined application of respiratory and skeletal muscle training and drug therapy including TB is the optimal treatment for COPD patients.

Based on the early reports of the successful treatment of depressive states with chlorpromazine, 47 voluntarily hospitalized psychiatric patients referred for drug therapy, were randomly assigned to one of three treatment regimens. Sixteen depressive patients received imipramine, 11 placebo and 20 a combination of chlorpromazine and procyclidine in a six-week, fixed dosage schedule. On clinical behavioural ratings, both the chlorpromazine-procyclidine combination and imipramine had significantly better therapeutic results than placebo. These observations are consistent with earlier reports that the treatment of depressive disorders with chlorpromazine may be enhanced by the addition of an antiparkinsonian anticholinergic agent. It appears clear that agitated depressions may be effectively treated with chlorpromazine-procyclidine. Further data is required to evaluate this treatment for retarded depressions.
