A biotesting technique is described that provides for periodic (every 2 h) recording of changes in the in-tensity of elastic light scattering, pH and electrical conductivity of a liquid nutrient medium incubated in the presence and absence of viable test microorganisms and test samples. The results of a comparative analysis using this technique of antibiotic activity against Staphylococcus aureus of different concentra-tions of whole subcritical extracts obtained using liquefied CO2 from 10 different types of plant raw mate-rials are presented. Studies have shown that among the samples studied by us, the most active prolonged antimicrobial properties were exhibited by extracts from the roots of Chelidonium majus and flowers of Calendula officinalis at their concentration in the test medium (CTE) more than 3 vol.%. And the most ac-tive prolonged prebiotic properties were exhibited by extracts from shoots of Viscum album and leaves of Juglans regia at CTE = 0.2 vol.%. In this case, the biological activity of the tested samples with respect to test microorganisms in most cases monotonically decreased with an increase in the interaction time of the mentioned microorganisms and samples. However, the exact nature of these dependencies in most cases can be established only with the help of a significant number of tests. And the latter can be conveniently carried out using the methodology presented in this work, which allows a much more rapid, objective and informative, as well as much less laborious and material-intensive, than when using standard visual mi-crobiological methods, to assess the effect on the dynamics of the vital activity of microorganisms of vari-ous tested samples.

The article is devoted to the important problem of the search of herbal preparations with high antibacterial, cytostatic and lithic activity. The plants such as Ambrosia artemisiifolia, which belongs to the family of Aystrou, are promising in this direction. The aim of the presented work is to study the antibacterial, cytostatic and lithic activity of water extracts of Ambrosia polynolithic and conduct a comparative analysis of these properties with other medicinal plants. Determining that the lectin extract from the green shoots (until flowering) of Ambrosia artemisiifolia does not agglutinate red blood cells, makes it possible to consider this raw material as a potential drug in pharmacology. Investigation of cytostatic activity by the method of Ivanov and Bystrova enabled to establish a place of ambrosia among already well-known medicinal plants. The cytostatic activity of the investigated plants can be represented by the following series in the order of reduction: Chelidónium május, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Vinca minor, Viscum album. The establishment of antibacterial activity allowed to confirm the presence of anti-staphylococcal activity of the water extract of ambrosia and its significant effect on the colon. Anti-staphylococcus activity of the water extract of Ambrosia artemisiifolia is close to Viscum album and Chelidónium május. The antibacterial effect against Proteus vulgaris was the highest in the extract of аmbrosiа shoots, compared with other medicinal plants studied. Taking into account the phylogenetic method, it could be expected that the plants of the Aystroe family may have a lithic activity with respect to the concrements that are formed in the kidneys of man. So, a study was conducted on the lithic activity of polystyrene embryos and it was found that Ambrosia artemisiifolia has a high lithic activity in relation to urate and oxalate concretions.

A biotesting technique is described that provides for periodic (every 2 hours) recording of changes in pH, redox potential, and electrical conductivity of a liquid culture medium incubated in the presence and in the absence of viable test microorganisms (TM) and test samples (TS). The results of a comparative analysis using this technique of antibiotic activity against Staphylococcus aureus of different concentrations of «essential oils» obtained from 10 types of plant raw materials are presented. Based on this, we can conclude the following. Using the presented methodology, it is possible to assess the effect on the dynamics of the vital activity of TM of samples of various pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, feed and other products, much more quickly, objectively and informatively than using standard visual methods of microbiological testing. The initial antibiotic activity of TS in most cases was greater than their prolonged antibiotic activity. At the same time, the mid-term (in terms of the time of interaction of TS with TM) antibiotic activity of TS was usually intermediate in value between their initial and prolonged biological activity.

Growing environmental problems and increasing requirements of green jobs force universities around the world not only to transform their curricula but also to enrich existing ones with contents related to the promotion of sustainable development. This paper aims to show the importance of measuring and monitoring the share of green contents in all university activities, as only in that way it is possible to monitor trends and give realistic assessments of their effect and importance. The paper presents a comparative analysis of different types of methodologies for assessing sustainable activities at universities as well as research conducted at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia and its comparison with the University of Gothenburg (Sweden). This research aims to point out the importance of increasing competitiveness in higher education through assessment of green content in a curriculum and its promotion. In this way, through eco-labeling methodology, it would be easier to identify those contents that, in a certain share, contribute to the promotion of sustainable development. Furthermore, this methodology can easily be extended across the country and the region, which would bring positive effects to all stakeholders in higher education.

The study aimed at evaluating the antioxidant profile of a medicinal epiphyte Viscum album L. harvested from three tree species, namely, Populus ciliata L, Ulmus villosa L., and Juglans regia L. The crude extracts were obtained with ethanol, methanol, and water and were evaluated for the total phenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activities using total reducing power (TRP), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 1, 1-diphenyl 1-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), superoxide radical scavenging (SOR), and hydroxyl radical scavenging (•OH) assays. Our results showed that crude leaf extracts of plants harvested from the host Juglans regia L. exhibited higher yields of phytochemical constituents and noticeable antioxidative properties. The ethanolic leaf samples reported the highest phenols (13.46 ± 0.87 mg/g), flavonoids (2.38 ± 0.04 mg/g), FRAP (500.63 ± 12.58 μM Fe II/g DW), and DPPH (87.26% ± 0.30 mg/mL). Moreover, the highest values for TRP (4.24 ± 0.26 μg/mL), SOR (89.79% ± 0.73 mg/mL), and OH (67.16% ± 1.15 mg/mL) were obtained from aqueous leaf extracts. Further, Pearson correlation was used for quantifying the relationship between TPC, TFC, and antioxidant (FRAP, DPPH, SOR, OH) activities in Viscum album L. compared to their hosts. It was revealed that the epiphyte showed variation with the type of host plant and extracting solvent.

One of the latest trends in the transport field is the increasing interest for the rejuvenation of the railway. It is considered to be a logical consequence of the gradual switch towards a more sustainable future in transports. Terminals and stations are considered to be the junction points between the various lines that constitute the railway network and can simply be described as points of arrival, departure and interchange of passengers or commodities. The most commonly used indicators that measure the level of their performance are time and cost. This study aims at exploring possible improvements that could be implemented to the infrastructure and the operation of terminals and stations in order to increase the efficiency level. Firstly, drawing upon grounded theory about rail infrastructure and terminals, a description is conducted, followed by a comparative analysis of the different types of existing terminals and stations. Secondly, the suggested improvements are presented in accordance with their time frame completion. The main contribution of this study is to illustrate the high significance of terminals, stations and yards, acknowledging them as crucial parts of the railway network, because as characterized and demonstrated in this study, their performance are key factors to the whole network performance, making the identification of their critical points and respective possible solutions, the final objective of this paper. In addition to this, emphasis is given to the need of improving and developing the existing terminal infrastructure and operations.
