This paper studies problematic of a mechanical system composed of different coupled parts submitted to a high speed shock and proposes analysis of anti vibratory passive and active methods based on an experimental and theoretical coupled approach. After a shock, different parts of the system oscillate. If one of them is excited at a particular frequency, such as its proper frequency, important oscillations appear and can lead to the deterioration of the system by introducing important stresses. In this paper, we propose an analysis in order to understand this kind of problem and what we can do to avoid it. Firstly, we discuss problematic and we expose the studied system. In a second time, we develop two approaches of modeling that allow us to understand the phenomenon by carrying out numerical simulations. Then cross checking of model is completed via experimental study on drop test bench. Passive minimization method of vibrations based on experimental and theoretical coupled approach is exposed. Finally, a comparative analysis of different methods of control and experimental results of controlled system are presented.

The base of a successful university in providing quality education and practical knowledge for improving the lives of the youths in terms of social, economical and intellectual development are only possible through promoting research culture. Research conduct and writing is the most important tool for identifying remedial recommendations for education and related problems. This research presents comparative analysis of the research in Public and Private Universities in Pakistan. The research identifies current research practices, their strengths and weaknesses and provides recommendations for improvement. Research supervision and writing are two different parts but in reality these are parts of a single activity which is called thesis writing process. In Pakistan, research culture is considered very difficult and complicated activity because scholars do not accept challenges and the supervisors do not take the required interest. The study highlights the areas where scholars and supervisors need improvement, more struggle, and scientific as well as academic zest.

The article analyses the features of the development of agriculture in Russia at the end of the 19th century - the beginning of the 20th century. The paper studies and considers attempts to solve the agrarian issue in the specified period. The study considers the course and results of the reform of 1861, as well as economic reforms of the beginning of the 20th century. The author gives an assessment of these reforms, as well as the situation of the peasantry made by the leading economists of that time: N.D. Kondrat'ev, S.L. Maslov, A.V. Peshekhonov, A.V. Chayanov, and also analyses the measures aimed at alleviating the situation of the peasantry and solving the agrarian problems of that period. The research paper also presents a comparative analysis of the consequences of the 1861 reform, its impact on the solution of the agrarian issue in different parts of the Russian Empire, in particular in Poland after the Polish Uprising of 1863.

The paper relates to the development of intermodal technologies used in international trade, together with factors which will influence that development at present and in the future. The aim of the paper is to assess impact of the integration of intermodal chains on logistics costs and thus on global trade. The special emphasize is laid on the problem of the diversity of standards of containers and transport technology in different parts of the world. This research is based on the available statistical data and information obtained from leading logistics operators. The authors conducted comparative analysis of the economic efficiency of usage of different sizes of cargo units, both standard and non-standard, relating to representative intermodal chain between the USA and Europe. In order to assess different scenarios a model was elaborated for calculating the total costs of such a chain, and transport efficiency analysis with the use of this model were conducted. The results of research presented in the paper confirm that integration of intermodal chains thanks to standardization of loading units in a global scale could be profitable. The results of logistics cost analysis prove measurable benefits for logistics operators and as well as their customers.

Due to certain differences in terms of molecular structure, isoquinoline alkaloids from Chelidonium majus engage in various biological activities. Apart from their well-documented antimicrobial potential, some phenanthridine and protoberberine derivatives as well as C. majus extract present with anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic effects. In this study, the LC–MS/MS method was used to determine alkaloids, phenolic acids, carboxylic acids, and hydroxybenzoic acids. We investigated five individually tested alkaloids (coptisine, berberine, chelidonine, chelerythrine, and sanguinarine) as well as C. majus root extract for their effect on the secretion of IL-1β, IL-8, and TNF-α in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophils). Berberine, chelidonine, and chelerythrine significantly decreased the secretion of TNF-α in a concentration-dependent manner. Sanguinarine was found to be the most potent inhibitor of IL-1β secretion. However, the overproduction of IL-8 and TNF-α and a high cytotoxicity for these compounds were observed. Coptisine was highly cytotoxic and slightly decreased the secretion of the studied cytokines. The extract (1.25–12.5 μg/mL) increased cytokine secretion in a concentration-dependent manner, but an increase in cytotoxicity was also noted. The alkaloids were active at very low concentrations (0.625–2.5 μM), but their potential cytotoxic effects, except for chelidonine and chelerythrine, should not be ignored.

Based on the comparative analysis, this paper discussed the similar and different parts of the sustainable sites indicators between ESGB and LEED. The results show the two evaluation system had different emphasis in land saving of green buildings. It should not completely copy the contents of LEED though ESGB could learn a lot from LEED.

The magnetization reversal process in the surface and volume areas of Co-rich glass-covered microwires has been investigated. The study has been performed in the wide series of microwires with chemical composition, geometry (thickness of glass coating) with the purpose of the tailoring of the giant magnetoimpedance effect. The comparative analysis of the magnetoelectric, magnetic, and magneto-optical experiments permits to optimise the giant magnetoimpedance ratio and elucidate the main properties of the magnetization reversal process in the different parts of the Co-rich microwire.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the publication of Miroslav Horch's 1985Social Preconditions of National Revival in Europe: A Comparative Analysis of the Social Composition of Patriotic Groups among the Smaller European Nationsin English translation. The work first appeared asDie Vorkämpfer der nationalen Bewegungen bei den kleinen Völkern Europasin 1968. The English translator of this famous study, Ben Fowkes, has since established himself as a prolific expert on East European nationalism (1996, 1999, 2000, 2002). Hroch's work has now influenced several generations of scholars interested in many different parts of the world. To examine its influence on the course of nationalism studies, this themed issue ofNationalities Papersoffers both a retrospective on Hroch's work and discussion of its continued relevance for several different branches of nationalism studies.
