In the process of underground mining of deep levels rock pressure can appear in any form, creating a serious threat to the lives of miners, disrupting the normal course of mining works and reducing the efficiency of mining production. The solution of the problem of rock pressure control becomes very urgent for underground mines developing vein deposits at a depth of more than 250 m. The aim of the study is the development and justification of mining methods to provide safe and efficient mining of deposits in complicated mining and mechanical conditions. In this paper, the factors of redistribution and dangerous concentration of stresses in the mined ore mass were identified, the methods of rock mass management in complicated geotechnical conditions were studied, and their advantages and disadvantages were revealed. It was determined that the sublevel stoping with the combined use of existing methods of rock pressure control and applying selfpropelled mining machinery is currently one of the most promising method finding widening application scope. In the context of Zarmitan gold ore zone the options of technological schemes of the sublevel stoping method were considered, providing for a combination of different methods of rock pressure control, allowing to minimize the disadvantages of one method through using the advantages of other ones. We proposed sublevel stoping options with artificial polygonal pillars and with artificial columnar pillars, which allowed to reduce ore losses in inter-stope pillars, arch pillars, and secondary dilution. In addition, artificial pillars, taking compressive/tensile stresses, prevent their concentration and create safe conditions for extraction at adjacent and underlying levels.

SummaryDespite the clinical benefit associated with the combined use of aspirin and clopidogrel in patients with acute coronary syndrome or those undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, a considerable interindividual variability in response to these drugs have been consistently reported. There is a growing interest on applying platelet functional tests with the goal of identifying patients at increased risk of recurrent ischaemic events and potentially tailoring antiplatelet treatment regimens.This manuscript will review the state of the art on the most commonly available platelet functional tests, describing their advantages and disadvantages and exploring their applicability in clinical practice.

AbstractThe relevance of CO2 emissions from geological sources to the atmospheric carbon budget is becoming increasingly recognized. Although geogenic gas migration along faults and in volcanic zones is generally well studied, short-term dynamics of diffusive geogenic CO2 emissions are mostly unknown. While geogenic CO2 is considered a challenging threat for underground mining operations, mines provide an extraordinary opportunity to observe geogenic degassing and dynamics close to its source. Stable carbon isotope monitoring of CO2 allows partitioning geogenic from anthropogenic contributions. High temporal-resolution enables the recognition of temporal and interdependent dynamics, easily missed by discrete sampling. Here, data is presented from an active underground salt mine in central Germany, collected on-site utilizing a field-deployed laser isotope spectrometer. Throughout the 34-day measurement period, total CO2 concentrations varied between 805 ppmV (5th percentile) and 1370 ppmV (95th percentile). With a 400-ppm atmospheric background concentration, an isotope mixing model allows the separation of geogenic (16–27%) from highly dynamic anthropogenic combustion-related contributions (21–54%). The geogenic fraction is inversely correlated to established CO2 concentrations that were driven by anthropogenic CO2 emissions within the mine. The described approach is applicable to other environments, including different types of underground mines, natural caves, and soils.

Abstract Underground extraction of coal is characterized by high variability of mining and geological conditions in which it is conducted. Despite ever more effective methods and tools, used to identify the factors influencing this process, mining machinery, used in mining underground, work in difficult and not always foreseeable conditions, which means that these machines should be very universal and reliable. Additionally, a big competition, occurring on the coal market, causes that it is necessary to take action in order to reduce the cost of its production, e.g. by increasing the efficiency of utilization machines. To meet this objective it should be pro-ceed with analysis presented in this paper. The analysis concerns to availability of utilization selected mining machinery, conducted using the model of OEE, which is a tool for quantitative estimate strategy TPM. In this article we considered the machines being part of the mechanized longwall complex and the basis of analysis was the data recording by the industrial automation system. Using this data set we evaluated the availability of studied machines and the structure of registered breaks in their work. The results should be an important source of information for maintenance staff and management of mining plants, needed to improve the economic efficiency of underground mining.

The first line treatment in the management of glaucoma is topical medical therapy. Many patients with glaucoma require multiple medications for adequate intraocular pressure control. For patients who need multi-dose regimens to control intraocular pressure, fixed combinations offer convenience, efficacy and safety. This review summarizes the role, efficacy, mechanism of action and indications for use of modern fixed combination of topical glaucoma medications. The review shows the advantages and disadvantages of a prescribing fixed combination in daily clinical practice.

Abstract The ventilation networks are associated with the set of underground mining works used for the extraction of useful mineral substances. Over time, the ventilation networks involve a change in the structure due to either the expansion or restriction of the mining works structure. For the establishment of air flows at the level of each active mining work, specialized programs are used at international level. These programs allow the modelling and solving of complex ventilation networks. The most advanced specialized programs are those from the VENTSIM range. The paper presents the updating of the ventilation network related to Livezeni mine, with the help of the VENTSIM program.

Underground mines include a number of challenges due to their hostile milieu. Therefore, geotechnical and environmental monitoring mainly in underground coal mines have always been a critical task to ensure safe working conditions. If the monitoring device is cable based, then it requires an huge amount of cable deployment which can pose not only the high maintenance cost but difficulty in laying out the cable throughout the underground galleries. on the other hand, if it is direct wireless communication between sensing devices and the central processing unit, it is also not so feasible due to the crisscross, uneven and incline path. Therefore, Wireless Sensor Networks grab an opportunity to be deployed in such a hostile environment. Keeping in view, in the present chapter, attempts have been made to discuss the different aspects of wireless sensor network for underground coal mining services applications to overcome the various threats. Further, the best suited logical topology has been identified for the same.

Medical data mining has great potential for exploring the hidden pattern in the data sets of the medical domain. A predictive modeling approach of Data Mining has been systematically applied for the prognosis, diagnosis, and planning for treatment of chronic disease. For example, a classification system can assist the physician to predict if the patient is likely to have a certain disease, or by considering the output of the classification model, the physician can make a better decision on the treatment to be applied to the patient. Once the model is evaluated and verified, it may be embedded within clinical information systems. The objective of this chapter is to extensively study the various predictive data mining methods to evaluate their usage in terms of accuracy, computational time, comprehensibility of the results, ease of use of the algorithm, and advantages and disadvantages to relatively naive medical users. The research has shown that there is not a single best prediction tool, but instead, the best performing algorithm will depend on the features of the dataset to be analyzed.

This chapter summarizes some relative advantages and disadvantages of MEG and EEG, most of which have been previously elaborated. MEG and EEG are the two sides of the same coin and provide complementary information about the human brain’s neurodynamics. The combined use of MEG or EEG together and with other noninvasive methods used to study human brain function is advocated to be important for future research in systems and cognitive/social neuroscience. This chapter also examines combined use and interpretation of MEG/EEG with MRI/fMRI, and performing EEG recordings during non-invasive brain stimulation.
