This essay reviews Steven J. Sutcliffe and Ingvild Sælid Gilhus's New Age Spiritualities: Rethinking Religion. It shows that their attempt to redefine religion through new age spiritualities is actually an attempt to impose an economically elite social geography onto religious studies as a social fact. My central argument is that this effort in turn reveals that religious studies serves as a sociological factory for liberal economic ideologies. It suggests that to mitigate this ideological work, a shift toward critical geography in religious studies is the way forward.

Because of the availability of user-friendly software and the affordability of hardware, computers have become a common means of organizational communication. Users have had to change the way they process thoughts and ideas and to transfer them into hard-copy documentation. The integration of the computer into the business communication curriculum allows the instructor to provide a relevant and practical educational experience for college students. This article examines the importance of incorporating hands-on usage of a microcomputer in the business communication class and discusses computer applications and teaching strategies for text editing, punctuation review, and grammar assistance.

High, neutral, and low self-esteem were induced in college students who then took part in a mixed motive game. It was hypothesized that induced low self-esteem would result in highly competitive behavior. This prediction was confirmed for the first trial block of 10 trials but no difference in competitive behavior among the 3 groups was observed during the second through fifth trial blocks. The results were discussed in terms of the success of the induction of level of self-esteem, the perceived strategy of the other player, and the way in which the perceived strategy might interact with chronic and induced levels of self-esteem.

When people end their relationships, they must choose which parts of the relationship to remember and forget as they prepare themselves for future partners. This memory process is complicated by the recordability and permanence of mediated messages because individuals must actively curate their virtual possessions—such as pictures with a previous partner or online relationship statuses. Using the relational dissolution model framework, this study investigated the behaviors people use online to manage the end of their relationships and how these choices may influence the way they adjust to the breakup. College students ( N = 234) were surveyed to examine how their keeping and deleting of virtual possessions are related to their post-breakup adjustment. Results suggest that keeping virtual possessions negatively relates to post-breakup adjustment. Participants who were more nostalgic were more likely to keep virtual possessions following a breakup, which mediated the relationship between nostalgia and post-breakup adjustment. The implications show how the persistence of mediated possessions has the potential to affect the breakup process as people struggle to manage their relational memories.

It has been assumed that the characteristics of respondents, such as their sex, background and socialization experiences, would affect the way in which respondents perceive other persons. Sex differences have been found in college students, but generational differences have not been explored. The present study employed one hundred fifty men and women, of non-college background and of a wide range of ages, and permitted free responses in respondents' descriptions. The effect of gender and generation on the categories participants used to describe a known man and woman was examined. A multivariate analysis of variance indicated significance on both variables. However, subsequent one-way analyses of variance revealed that only a few categories were used differentially by men and women, or by the older, middle and younger generations.
