Prosthodontic rehabilitation can be accomplished with fixed, overdenture, complete, or implant-retained prostheses. Dental treatment overcomes the patient’s functional, psychological, esthetic and phonation problems. Remaining healthy teeth may allow the dentist to fabrícate a removable partial overdenture, fixed partial prosthesis or implant - supported prosthesis. The retention of a number of abutments helps maintain a positive ridge form with greater height and volume of the alveolar bone, improving masticatory performance, as well as providing a more stable prostheses. Dental patients who have medical problems need many treatment procedures. Multidisciplinary treatment planning is invaluable for patient’s dental health. Progeria is a rare genetic condition where symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at an early age. characteristic clinical findings of Progeria disease include abnormalities of the skin and hair in conjunction with char-acteristic facial features and skeletal abnormalities. The characteristic facies show protruding ears, beaked nose, thin lips with centrofacial cyanosis, prominent eyes, frontal and parietal bossing with pseudohydrocephaly, midface hypoplasia with micrognathia and large anterior fontanel. The other reported anomalies are dystrophic nails, hypertrophic scars and hypoplastic nipples. The findings that are nearly interested in dentistry are delayed dentition, anodontia, hypodontia, or crowding of teeth. This article presents the multidisciplinary dental treatment planning includes surgical, endodontic and prosthetic treatment of a patient with a history of progeria. In this case complete-arch fixed prostheses in both maxilla and mandible, supported by a combination of im-plants and teeth are reported.

Radiotherapy in NPC patients has side effects on the dentition, which affects quality of life dramatically. This case report presents multidisciplinary dental treatment approach in a 17-year-old male patient with a history of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), which was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The adolescent patient applied to dental hospital 4 years after the radiotherapy with aesthetic and functional problems on dentition affecting psychological, social, and physical aspects of his life. The dentition of the patient demonstrated the severe destruction as a devastating side effect of radiotherapy. With a successful multidisciplinary approach, our patient’s aesthetics, function, and self-confidence were obtained. Well-established procedures, which include preventative care and maintenance, can reduce the duration and expenses of the treatment and help in challenging the life-long complications of radiotherapy.

Introduction Anxiety and fear in relation to dentistry are long-standing problems and the incidence of dental fear does not appear to be decreasing. It can result in poor dental health and wastage of clinical time. Conscious sedation is one method of allaying anxiety in dental patients and enables such patients to accept dental treatment. Aims, Materials and Methods A questionnaire survey was undertaken among patients attending an emergency dental clinic. Its aims were to assess the levels of dental anxiety in these subjects, the impact on their attendance for dental treatment, and their knowledge of and desire to have conscious sedation, should it be available. Results The results indicated that in the 72 patients who responded, levels of anxiety regarding dental treatment were high, with 49 (68%) claiming some nervousness or worse. Thirty-one (43%) cited fear/nervousness as a reason for delaying making a dental appointment. Twenty-seven (38%) were not aware of the existence of conscious sedation for dental treatment, of whom half reported that they were in the highly anxious group. Forty (56%) respondents said they would like to have sedation if it were available. Twenty-five (35%) claimed to have received sedation for dental treatment in the past. Conclusion It was concluded that the availability of dental sedation was currently not matching the needs and demands of several patients who took part in the survey. Increased availability of dental sedation could remove a barrier to dental care for many highly anxious dental patients.

Syngnathia is a rare anomaly involving fusion between the maxilla and mandible. The fusion may be due to soft tissue adhesion between the two or true bony fusion between maxilla and mandible. This condition ranges from only soft tissue fusion between gums known as synechia to bony union known as synostosis with different grades of fusion. It was first reported in 1936, with only 41 cases reported till 2009. In this case a 11 years old girl reported to the maxillofacial department of Dhaka Dental College Hospital, with the complaint of inability to open the mouth and as a diagnosed case of alveolar bone fusion of mandible with palatal alveolar bone in the left side & bone fusion of alveolar process of mandibular angle region with maxilla in the right side. She was also bone fusion of the coronoid process with zygoma in the right side. Immediate after birth she had a history of synechia (Bilateral) & it was correct by making stoma by maxillofacial surgeon. The patient was subjected to a surgical procedure, after successful operation she enabled to open her mouth up to 35 mm.Medicine Today 2014 Vol.26(2): 114-117

Abstract This clinical report describes the oral rehabilitation of a 15-year-old male patient who was involved in a snowmobile accident and suffered multiple mid-face and mandibular fractures. Consequences of the accident included avulsion of teeth numbers 5 to 10 and 21 to 26, and a significant amount of maxillary and mandibular anterior alveolar bone loss. The patient underwent open reduction and rigid fixation of the fractured left zygoma, comminuted LeFort I maxillary fracture, and left body of the mandible; closed reduction of the bilateral condylar fractures; autologous corticocancellous bone grafting to the maxilla and mandible; implant placement; and prosthesis fabrication. This multidisciplinary approach successfully restored function and esthetics.

Aim: This descriptive type of cross-sectional study was conducted among 105 dental surgeons working in the outpatient departments at some renowned educational institutions and a few private dental clinics in Dhaka city. Methods: The respondents were interviewed using structured questionnaire and their method of practice was noted. Results: Mean period of practice was 9.49±5.936 (1 to 27) years. The mean age in year of the respondents was 33.88±6.18 (24 to 50) years. Highest respondents were from private dental clinics (28.6%) and the rests were from educational institutions. According to educational qualifications, 65.7% were graduate dental surgeons and the rest were postgraduates. Male were more (63) in numbers than the female respondents (42). Only 9.5% practiced dental chair instrument tray and other exposed area cleaning with disinfectants between patients, 6.7% used to wrap exposed areas and change between different patients and 5.7% practiced air exhausting during dental treatment. Only 27.6% changed gloves for each patient, 71.4% dental surgeons used aprons, 96.1% dental surgeons used face masks, 74.3% respondents did not use goggles or eye protecting shields and only 4.8% dental surgeons used head caps in their daily dental practice. Of all, 5.7% dental surgeons routinely advised their patients to rinse mouth with any antiseptic mouth wash before treatment to minimize dental splatter and aerosol and 3.8% dental surgeons used high-volume suction as a routine practice during all dental treatment procedures. Conclusion: The study reveals the existing practice situation of dental surgeons of Dhaka city about cross infection control especially dental splatter and aerosol. Dental health-care personnel, dental patients and their family members are at a risk to expose to contaminated diseases due to dental splatter and aerosol. Latar belakang. Background. In certain systemic conditions that do not allow for such revocation in patients with a history of stroke care with overdenture is the most appropriate treatment alternative. Overdenture is a complete or partial dentre supported by mucoperiostium and several teeth or tooth roots that have been carried out root canal treatment to inhibit the process of alveolar bone resobtion so retention and stabilization of a complete denture can be improved. Purpose. Of this case report to determine the management of patients with a history of stroke with Complete Denture (CD) overdenture. Case. The patient was a woman, 58 years old to come on their own to the Hospital Soedomo Faculty of Dentistry, University of Gadjah Mada, want to made a denture maxilla and mandible, as previously worn dentures that are nor comfortable to wear chew, patients with a history of stroke, while still in treatment. Teeth that remain are 28 teeth, tooth 42 and tooth 43, is contraindicated because of the revocation, the teeth that are left are not revoked and planned as CD overdenture abutment coping with regard to the teeth 28, the magnetic connection of the teeth 42 and the base root on tooth 43, the next is inserted CD overdenture maxillary and lower jaw, which examined: retention stabilization, occlusion, aesthetics and phonetics. Controls performed 1 week later examined patient complaints when using CD the subjective and objective examination, examined retention, stabilization, occlusion, esthetics and phonetics. Results. CD overdenture treatment using gear that is still living with the combination of buffer overdenture on a subjective examination of the patient feel more comfortable, the overdenture objective examination can improve retention, stabilization, occlusion, esthetics, phonetics. Conclusion. CD overdenture usage can increase retention, stabilization, occlusion, aesthetics, and phonetics. Overdenture is the treatment of choice for patients with certain systemic conditions that are nor possible revocation.

The COVID-19 is an utmost challenge to the health care profession. The medical professionals and system and has recommended different reaction and sorts of solutions found all over the world. As the dental health care professionals deal directly with the oral cavity, their responsibility in avoiding the spread of COVID-19 proves significant. All the usual dental treatment and procedures put on hold into countries which come across COVID-19. During this pandemic, there is a need for planned crucial care which might be delivered by dental professional and auxiliary they should be provided with proper PPE on priority. Dental health care professionals should also be trained to contribute to health care. Quick re-organization of significant health care support is not simple. Dental health care professionals have an ethical duty to lessen the fear of spreading COVID-19 for routine care in dental patients. But they were and are worried concerning the monetary issues. The huge data is online accessible and over societal media, but still, it is hard to recognize research confirmation and supervision; however, ethical conclusions should be made.

Lesions of the dento-alvelolar system, which develop in cases of traffic accidents, domestic, industrial or other traumatic injuries, leads to a sharp decrease in dental health, and consequently to the decrease in quality of life associated with post-traumatic changes in dental status. Purpose of work – to analyze the indicators of the integrated quality of life criterion associated with the state of dental health among dental prosthetically-rehabilitated patients with a history of maxillofacial (MF) traumatic injuries. The study sample was formed on the basis of the University Dental Clinic from a cohort of patients who sought dental care with the need for comprehensive prosthetic rehabilitation. According to the analysis of medical records of dental patients, 66 persons with a history of maxillofacial traumatic injuries were selected. In order to assess the integrated criterion of quality of life associated with dental health, among dental patients with a history of maxillofacial traumatic injuries, who received appropriate prosthetic treatment, surveys were conducted taking into account all domains of OHIP-14 (abbreviated to 14 questions version of the Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire). Mandibular fractures and traumatic injuries of individual teeth (dislocations, fractures) were the most prevalent among study sample and corresponded to 31.8 % and 27.3 %, respectively. The main causes of maxillofacial traumatic injuries were domestic injuries (43.9 %), road traffic accidents (RTA) (37.9 %), criminal injuries (10.6 %), industrial-associated (4.5 %) and sports-associated injuries (3.0 %). Prosthetic rehabilitation of the vast majority of patients, which correspond to 56 persons (84.8 %), was performed using different types of fixed prosthetic constructions, such as crowns, bridges supported by natural teeth, or installed dental implants. Majority of patients 84.9-95.5 % demonstrated high indicators of the integrated criterion of quality of life associated with changes in dental health, despite the fact of previous surgical treatment of maxillofacial traumatic lesions. Thus, in the absence of secondary deformities after surgical treatment of maxillofacial traumatic lesions, prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with the use of fixed types of prosthetic constructions supported by natural teeth or installed dental implants helps to achieve high quality of life associated with changes in dental health. The use of complete or partial removable dentures for a similar purpose provokes a relative decrease within the integral criterion of quality of life in the structure of such domains, as physical pain, psychological discomfort and social incapacity, which is due to the peculiarities of removable prosthetic construction exploitation, retention and functioning.
