Objectives: While fixed route private transport services have grown in prominence in the recent times, there is a dearth of models that specifically tackle pricing in it. The current study aims to model producer behaviour in this model, keeping in mind its peculiar physical characteristics. Methods: This study develops a rational-actor model of the behaviour of producers operating in this market. There is however, an added assumption of the heuristic of least perceptible difference to add behavioural realism to the model. Results: The predictions derived from the model developed in this study include repeated usage of a single type of round-trip for a non-zero interval of time, the convexity of expected-waiting time with respect to changes in prices and a negative relation between external (exogenous) demand at one-point of a path and the price charged at the other. Conclusion: Pricing in this market, due to physical factors, can exhibit unique features as modelled. Keywords: Private Transport; transport Pricing; producer behaviour in transport

The need to develop and improve public passenger transport in major cities was noted. It was reflected that waiting time at bus stops is one of the factors that have a big impact on the passenger quality assessment of transport services. The results of an empirical study of the actual and anticipated waiting time at bus stops were given. It was noted that the reliability functions were used in the field of ride duration modeling, traffic restoration time after an accident, and length of making the decision to travel. The waiting time distribution functions using the lognormal function and the Weibull function were chosen. The results of modeling were objective, the dependent variables in it were the expected waiting time of passengers and the difference between the anticipated and the actual waiting time. The explanatory variables were sex, age, time period, purpose of the trip and the actual waiting time. The results of the research showed that the age, purpose of the trip and the time period influence the waiting time perception, prolong it and lead to its reassessment.

ABSTRACTAt the very end of the 19th century, Gabriele Tarde wrote that all society was a product of imitation and innovation. This view regarding the development of society has, to a large extent, fallen out of favour, and especially so in those areas where the rational actor model looms large. I argue that this is unfortunate, as models of imitative learning, in some cases, agree better with what people actually do than more sophisticated models of learning. In this paper, I contrast the behaviour of imitative learning with two more sophisticated learning rules (one based on Bayesian updating, the other based on the Nash-Brown-von Neumann dynamics) in the context of social deliberation problems. I show for two social deliberation problems, the Centipede game and a simple Lewis sender-receiver game, that imitative learning provides better agreement with what people actually do, thus partially vindicating Tarde.

Environmental activists are an important voice in public and private politics, urging governmental and corporate responses and solutions to ongoing environmental damage. Scholars have become increasingly interested in understanding environmental movements and the influence of environmental activist organizations. This article describes two literatures that have analyzed the dynamics and outcomes of activism, one based in a sociological examination of social movements and the other in economic analysis of activist nongovernmental organizations. Although the literatures sometimes use different language and methods, they have much in common. We highlight the consistent themes—in particular the shared respect for the rational actor model—the particular strengths of each tradition, and directions for future research where synergies between the disciplines could be more fully exploited.

The global health governance (GHG) literature frames health variously as a matter of security and foreign policy, human rights, or global public good. Divergence among these perspectives has forestalled the development of a consensus vision for global health. Global health policy will differ according to the frame applied. Fundamentally, GHG today operates on a rational actor model, encompassing a continuum from the purely self-interest-maximizing position at one extreme to a more nuanced approach that takes others’ interests into account when making one’s own calculations. Even where humanitarian concerns are clearly and admirably at play, however, the problem of motivations remains. Often narrow self-interest is also at work, and actors obfuscate this behind altruistic motives.

The main hypothesis of this article is that transgovernmental interaction among central banks and finance ministries of industrialized countries was as significant in economic policy formation as intergovernmental interaction. Elite interview data indicate, however, that the international consultative process among deputy central bank governors and deputy finance ministers conformed more closely to the intergovernmental image of international politics than had been expected. Both interaction patterns within the deputies’ consultative group and the impact of international consultations upon national economic policies could be explained moderately well in terms of a unified rational actor model. Examination of the transgovernmental interaction does suggest ways to systematically modify and improve interpretations based upon the rational actor model. In addition, the degree of politicization of issues may prove to be a reliable guide when deciding whether the transgovernmental dimension of an issue requires detailed study.

The complex vocalization of Scinax cardosoi (Anura: Hylidae), with comments on advertisement calls in the S. ruber Clade. The complex vocalization of Scinax cardosoi from a population of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil is described and compared with available acoustic data for the other species of the S. ruber Clade. Three distinct types of high-pitched, pulsed calls were identified, and are referred to as “short,” “long,” and “trilled” calls. Short calls (16–66 ms) resemble squeaks, and consist of a pulsed signal (8–28 pulses/call) with regular amplitude modulations throughout their duration; the amplitude peak occurs at about the midpoint of the call duration. Long calls (268–518 ms) resemble giggles, and have lower amplitude than short calls; typically, they consist of pulsed note series (1–6 notes/call). Trilled calls resemble insect chirps and have the lowest amplitude of the three call types; they consist of long (1.1–3.0 s) pulsed note series (9–25 notes/call). Acoustic data are taxonomically informative in the Scinax ruber Clade and provide phenotypic characters diagnosing S. cardosoi in addition to those features proposed in its original description. The vocalization repertoire of S. cardosoi resembles the complex vocal repertoires (i.e., multiple call types emitted in variable combinations) of members of the S. catharinae Clade more than some species of the S. ruber Clade, which tend to have simpler call structures (i.e., a single type of multipulsed note).

Basic expansions of probability density function, Expected waiting time in queue, Expected length of Queue, Expected size of system, probability of server being busy, and probability of system being empty conditions can be evaluated in this quantitative analysis approach. Probability of waiting ‘t’ minutes or more in queue and Expected number of customer served per busy period, Expected waiting time in System are also computed during the Analysis method. Single channel model with infinite population is used as most common case of queuing problems which involves the single channel or single server waiting line. Single Server model with finite population in test statistics provides the Relationships used in various applications like Expected time a customer spends in the system, Expected waiting time of a customer in the queue, Probability that there are n customers in the system objective case, Expected number of customers in the system

Confidence in astrology remains a visible phenomenon in contemporary society, and this is a constant topic of academic interest. A survey based on 512 valid questionnaires were obtained from a non-probability sample of university students from Bucharest, in order to observe possible statistical relations between confidence in astrology, confidence in sciences such as medicine and mathematics, but also fields such as astronomy and horoscope. On the other hand, several statements have been used to measure the level of religiosity. Notable is the moderate positive correlation obtained between astrology and astronomy, but also the strong correlation between astrology and horoscope (this last correlation was expected). Broadly speaking, it is observed that astrology correlates positively with the variables that constitute the ‘inward’ component of religiosity, while the ‘outward’ component shows a rather negative correlation, but which does not enjoy a similar statistical significance. Astronomy, like medicine, outlines negative relation with the level of religiosity. Instead, the correlations that involve trust in medicine have a negative and moderate value, in relation to religiosity. In conclusion, it is observed that the trust in “strong sciences” generates more prompt correlations compared to the trust in astrology, while further studies are needed to clarify the reasons for such uncertain correlations between astrology and religiosity.

In this chapter, Priscilla Ocen responds to Mona Lynch’s essay by applying Lynch’s social psychology model to recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, and to the problem of discretionary racism more generally. The chapter asks how a social psychology of criminal procedure might illuminate the situated and influential role of race on all the actors that make up the criminal justice drama, including not only police and prosecutors, but also local residents. Ocen argues that the “situated actor” model should take a page from Critical Race Theory (CRT) and include the historical and “macro-institutional dynamics” of race, because “individuals and institutions [in the criminal system] operate in particular political and historical contexts that are deeply racialized.” Ocen also points out that the subjects of the criminal system are themselves situated actors, whose interpretations and operationalization of criminal rules and norms should also be accounted for in empirically rich ways. Ultimately, the chapter makes the case that Lynch’s model and CRT would each gain much from thoughtful engagement with the insights of the other.
